Why you should be learning to draw anime-style : The demand for it will rise in the West

The reason why anime-style artwork is popular in Japan is due to the Moe culture in Japan, and anime-style illustrations are adopted for Light Novels in Japan as they are sources for anime adaptations, as well as Manga. Anime style or Moe artwork where the female characters have big cute eyes are also used in Visual Novels.......

In the past, anime style artwork is not popular in the West as normies think that cartoons, cartoon-like hand drawings or animation are just for kids, which are wrong. Anime-like drawings can even be mature or adult-only depending on the content.

Now, the demand for anime-style artwork will increase in the West during the next 5 years, and the reason is I expect more Western game companies/individuals will start making Visual Novel games in the next 5 years, so anime-style artwork with big-eyed girls will be in huge demand, as it is easier to fap or be attracted to such cute art with big eyed anime girls than realistic drawing. I have tried seeing realistic porn drawings but they just can't match both Hentai and the real Live Action thing, so for VNs the best choice would be Anime style artwork for the romanceable female characters.

As you know, Visual Novels have now been making big waves at Steam since the past year, so the demand for Visual Novel games will rise, so that is one big reason why you should be learning to draw anime style, so you could make your own VNs solo or as part of a project team member as an illustrator only.

Useful programs for drawing ? Paint Tool SAI, Krita, FireAlpaca, etc.....

Also, have you guys heard of the Western-made VN with anime-style artwork known as "Mein Waifu is the Fuhrer" ?

I frown at recent installments of Persona and Trails of Cold Steel that introduce harem-like elements in the story.

We need more JRPGs like the past Lunar series, where there are multiple romantic pairings in the party other than for the protagonist and main heroine.

You made a similar thread before. Do you really think it's necessary to throw the same bait twice?

Also, the need for mastering the drawing of body anatomy, perspective and proportions are the same in anime style illustrations, as the only thing different in Moe-style art are the big cute eyes and head proportions, so this is also something you need to do first.

Thankfully, learning such things is not rocket science and with time and effort, you can draw so well in a short amount of time. Therefore, by drawing anime, it is not inconceivable that one day you'd be able to illustrate female characters well in a future Visual Novel and offer many VN readers around the world anime-style artwork with refreshing Western-style storylines not commonly found in Japan.

Japanese anime artwork is good and excellent IMHO, but after years of anime and VN watching/reading experience, I concluded that even with excellently cute artwork, it would all mean nothing if the story sucks. So, maybe Westerners can offer even better stories with anime style art ?

For example, VNs with multiple male MCs are rare and few in Japan, so Westerners could probably make better Multiple MC VNs. For example, I liked Lord of the Rings, as the story is told from 2 Main Protagonists, Frodo and Aragorn, as they both have their own missions and adventures to fight for the same goal of fighting the evil forces threatening their world in different means/missions/tasks. I would like to read an epic 2 part VN like that made in the West with romance elements heavily included too, with 2-3 heroines for the Multiple Male MCs.....

This is sad, and offensive to western art.
Also I believe the term you're looking for is "manga artist/mangaka" an anime artist is an animator...
Also you're 2nd point, that "normies" think drawings are just for kids is blind to the entire graphic novel genre and movies like Heavy Metal etc.
We should influence each other without sacrificing originality, at least that's my opinion...

@GERXjakobson I don't even know what this is about. When I wrote my response to you I already forgot this dude is just rambling about visual novels, porn, anime, cartoons all at once. He wants good stories (western ones) in Visual Novels but also wants his dick to get hard from anime art style, ok good luck OP

While I agree that there is a lot of demand for anime style artwork, you fail to see the true form of art that is feeding most artists, the furries.

Back when I was between 16 and 18, I was having a hard time getting into college since my dad had passed away and I needed money. Enrolling in thearmy didn't pay enough to sustain my siblings and mom , and what saved me was the high demand for furry porn that DeviantArt used to have.

It paid well quite frankly

No, people should draw in their own, individual style. That's the whole point of art. People who want everything to look the same because they can only handle one artstyle are the bane of this medium and creativity in general. Please stop.
I probably regret this post by now.

There is one Youtuber who is Western but can draw anime-style EXTREMELY WELL. That person is.... Mikeymegamega.

If you watch his videos you can tell that he has superb drawing skills. Sadly he doesn't put his skills to better use, as he does not currently do illustrations for any Western-made Visual Novel as far as I know, nor does he work as a Manga Artist based in the West. With his drawing skills he could have offered even more forms of entertainment for us all over this world, should he work as such positions, but at least he has his tutorials on how to draw anime style on Youtube, so you can one day do what he could do now.

If only I had his drawing skills right now, there are so many stories I'd like to create with my own cutely designed anime grills/waifus.

Why do I always keep falling for bait like this? Anyway, when lurking around any anime based website enough you get to know that (prepare for the obvious):

- Anime style evolves over time. If you compare a generic style from the 70's with one from the 80's or 2010's you will notice huge differences.

- Different artists have different artstyles. Compare the works of Yoshitoshi Abe with those of Ikuko Itou, Naoki Urasawa and Takeshi Obata. They all look vastly different.

- An artist's style evolves over time and said artist will adapt his style so that it suits the work he's drawing for. Masaaki Yuasa for example has all kinds of distinct styles for his works.

So all in all anime style doesn't really exist. It's more like an umbrella term for all kinds of Japanese drawing styles. I know that with "anime style drawing" people usually mean a generic modern style but I couldn't care less about that.

Oh God.... when children try to predict markets... Westerners had drawn anime style for decades. Ever heard of Avatar? Totally Spies? Galactic Football? Those are just few of the Western animations that are over a decade long. But Westerners don't draw moe. The Japanese fetish for cute girls that look like prepubescent children is a Japanese fetish, not a culture. As for cuteness, what is cute in Japan is cute in the West too, but our culture of cuteness is limited to owning pets... As Japanese girls are youthful and petite, is obvious that a beauty standard was developed around such features. Western women thou, are not really cute... they beautiful, mature and sexy, so our standards of beauty are different. And that gets translated in our media and art too. Western anime styles, as a result, are more mature and realist.

Moe culture will never be a thing in the West... Well, it will, but just for small niche groups.

Also, I get it, you have an obsession for Visual Novels, but I don't know why you speak as the world revolves around them. The demand will not grow in any way in the next years, because VN are and will remain a niche genre. Most gamers will never touch VN's. And making VN's is not the goal of most peoples who make games either... In the end, it's quite a pain in the ass to make one. And learning to draw anime style is not a big philosophy for someone who is in art school.

The biggest mystery now is why everyone in the comments pretends that they don't know what anime art and anime style is? Like, for real? And yes, there is a moe culture... Is quite big in Japan. It revolves mostly around cute fashion, cosplay, and other otaku crap.

I dont know what OP is talking about, the time of real "big eyes" anime is over imo. But if it means more anime style and less Calart Im all for it.
