I mean like this:

I've been trying it for the past couple of days simply to see if there's something behind it. I'm reading really conflicting stories on the internet whether it's really good for your back because it forces your back to remain straight or just a really bad unhealthy way to sit that is purely held onto in Japan out of traditionalism. All sources agree though that if you haven't done it since childhood it takes acclimation and at first it did feel like my tendons were too short for it and were stretched too much but they seem to have gotten used to it now and the only minor discomfort is the weight on the knuckles of my feet but even that is getting better and better.

I'm not seeing the hype though — it's just another way to sit but I suppose it's nice that I now managed to get a way to sit in my repertoire that allows me to sit, work, and eat at my saloon table and use it like a desk or dining table.

It is obvious that "obscenity" is not a term capable of exact legal definition; in the practice of the courts, it means "anything that shocks the magistrate".

I was training Aikido for 5-6 years so I was sitting in seiza style really often , It's diffirent and comfortable for a short time , cause if you sit longer than 30 minutes your legs begins to hurt :/

So after 5-6 years you still believe that there are no advantages and it's just an uncomfortable way to sit?

Maybe there are some advantages but I didn't notice them.
But I think it's better to sit in seiza than with crossed legs (In my country we say "The Turkish sit").
But it's uncomfortable for longer time , maybe because in european tradition we sit all days in chairs not on the floor .

But maybe seiza sit is one of the best for meditation ?

I'm no longer flexible enough to sit like that anymore.

If I try sitting like that now, within less than 10 seconds, my legs will start to ache.

I tried it a few times and literally couldn't do it. It was very painful. I wonder how they pull it off so casually.

It's like sitting in a chair and having good posture, it just takes some time to get ready use to.

No, I physically can't do it without experiencing a lot of pain. I tried it again various ways just now and had to stop immediately.

yea, i sat like that when i went to i think a Japanese restaurant once. i see no point in sitting like that unless you find yourself in a restaurant where they only have tables that are of 10inches in height. i have no issues sitting like that for a short time though.
You can buy lossless digital music from your favorite Japanese artists on https://ototoy.jp/.
The songs are all DRM-free and you can re-download your purchased albums as you wish.
Show your support to your favorite artist if you can!
ps. if you are looking for Japanese albums, you have to search it in Japanese (not romaji). Just copy and paste the name.

One of the reasons I started doing it is because I have a table that is of the appropriate height that if I sit like under it the table is of just the right height for it so I might as well master it.

Also chairs hurt even more — I have no arse so I usually just end up sitting crouched.

I sit like that sometimes or with my feet to sides a little but every time it causes discomfort on ankles when trying to get back up as if they lock in place. I have no idea how some people do that.

I have tried many times but something is wrong with my body since I can't stay too long in that position... Maybe I need to start doing yoga or something ^^

So am I with no problems; it was pretty easy to get used to it in the end.

I can't say it offers any real advantage apart from being able to sit low enough for certain furniture but it's nice I guess that I have that in my repertoire now.

It's not really comfortable for me, I prefer to sit in Sukhasana pose.

Too heavy for that.

But aside that.. my hand/leg even dies when I lean on it. If I would sit on my legs like them. My legs would be amputated at this point.

But yeah..not comfortable... I like sitting as freely I can. The more I have to pack myself. The more difficult it becomes to sit.

:/ Ugh bus ride flashbacks that are packed. Have to pack myself so much that by the end of the ride I'm sweating from sitting in forced packed way.

Nah but I do have a tendency to inadvertently sit with my legs crossed, even on chairs.

i kinda just sit like that sometimes cause it's comfy for me, apparently its easier if you have short legs and small feet, so if you're a tall person with big feet it'll hurt

I find it more comfortable if you distribute your weight on your shins. I think there is some truth to it being good for your back.

For some reason, I lose my proprioception if I sit like that for more than 10 minutes, causing me to rely on leaning on one side with my hand to stop myself from swaying down. Not to mention ankle cramps are a problem
