I wanna buy some merch but I’m kinda scared. I know sites such as otakumode, mandarake, otamart, amiami...they also sell anime goods on etsy/tictail/redbubble but I don’t want to order unofficial or stolen stuff and the shipping fees are expensive as hell. Which site is the safest to order from your experience? Do you know any other sites? pls help me!

for physical goods, Amazon is probably the safest. just make sure the seller is Amazon (or Amazon Japan if you are importing), or if you are buying from a 3rd party, it is fulfilled by Amazon.
another option is kinokuniya. if you are buying figures, follow the rule of thumb - if the price seems too low, it may be a fake. (you could ask peole around if the product you are about to buy is legit)
You can buy lossless digital music from your favorite Japanese artists on https://ototoy.jp/.
The songs are all DRM-free and you can re-download your purchased albums as you wish.
Show your support to your favorite artist if you can!
ps. if you are looking for Japanese albums, you have to search it in Japanese (not romaji). Just copy and paste the name.

So far I had pretty good experiences with Amiami.
Hobbysearch Japan I ordered from once, and that went fine also.

Shipping overseas (From Japan to anywhere) will always be expensive. You're looking at at least a 1000 yen if you want it within 2 weeks. Registered shipments I highly recommend as you're able to track their journey and they'll be insured up to a certain amount.

You could also try Crunchyroll and similar businesses, I suppose.
Or get it straight from the dealer if they ship to your region (Goodsmile Company ships all kinds of things all across the globe)

If you'd rather buy from someone in person, I'd suggest anime conventions.
But be sure to google the legitimacy of each dealer. Some are more legit than others.

regarding Crunchyroll, ive heard horror stories of people..

a) receiving the wrong product
b) receiving a damaged product
c) simply not receiving the product after a long wait

to be able to confidently recommend Crunchy store.
not to mention that for anime, you can almost always find the same product on Amazon for cheaper.

I have bought many times from AmiAmi, Mandarake and Global Rakuten(from the store auc-toysanta) they have all been very reliable and safe(though my last Rakuten package seems to have gone lost, this is a first time, though i'm sure it's not their fault as i have gotten many packages from them before without problems), These sites only sell official merchandise too, and it's even better that they accept payment through PayPal so you don't have to pay directly with your credit card.

AmiAmi is very good for pre-orders of newer and more common merchandise, while i use Mandarake and Rakuten for harder to find or older merch.

I mainly collect domestic DVDs and Blu-ray releases, manga, novels, and the occasional soundtrack CD. I use Rightstuf and Amazon.

If I want to import something I usually use CDJapan.

All of my anime has been purchased online through either amazon.com or RightStufAnime.com. Sometimes I can get a better price from RSA than via amazon.

For CDs, DVDs, BDs, magazines and stuff, if one wants to import, then I recommend CD Japan. I have very good experience with them. Otherwise Amazon I guess, though I personally avoid them if possible for my own personal reasons. For other types of merchandise, I have good experience with J-List and Tokyo Otaku Mode. I'm currently looking for places where to buy dakimakuras myself, as I want to purchase one from Japan, but it's pretty difficult to figure out best one. One always has to expect that up to 20% of the total price of product, sometimes more, may be taxes and shipping. Some shops are willing to lie about product price on shipment for tax evasion purposes though. For LNs and mangas, I use Book Depository for English translated titles. Otherwise I think CD Japan offers them in Japanese for fine prices, if you know moon runes.

If one just wants to buy cheap and doesn't care about counterfeits or supporting the industry, then Chinese websites, especially Ali Express are the best.

I buy CD/DVD/BD from CD Japan. Figures too , some of them are available on sites that don't ship outside Japan so i use CD Japan's poxy shopping service. Also i buy from CD Japan other merch like t-shirt and other stuffs
Manga, light novels i buy from a manga online shop from my country, but if i don't want to wait 2 weeks i buy from Amazon, is a little more expensive tho

I own a pretty fair amount of unofficial merch. Not nearly as much fan made stuff as I own official stuff, but I own several doujinshi and those are all fan made. When I'm buying official stuff though... eBay, Amazon, and Mandarake are usually my go-to's. And of course, conventions as well. If you're ever in the market to buy some nice fancy box-sets, then Sentai Filmworks has a pretty nice selection. For figures, any of the aforementioned sites but usually I use eBay.

Depending on the price you would want to pay. Buy from WIsh if you want a figure for a cheap price but don't expect the best quality

You'd be far better off going to myfigurecollection.com and getting advice there. The standard shops to buy from are based in Japan, such as AmiAmi, Mandarake, BiginJapan, Nippon-Yasan, HLJ, HobbySearch, Suruga-ya (with a proxy as they don't ship outside Japan, but lord their selection and prices are amazing).

Etsy is for fanmade stuff, so not official products.

Ebay and Amazon are stuffed full of bootlegs but you can occasionally find something good among the mountains of crap.

If you're European then don't buy from EU-based shops as they jack the price up significantly on everything. The sites listed above are literally all you'll need and most have great English-speaking staff. Heck, Mandarake's physical shop in Akihabara employs several foreign staff who are native English speakers.

conventions, ain’t trusting the internet

Conventions are breeding grounds for bootlegs sold at astronomical prices to the unwary, you are significantly better off buying from a reputable online shop based in Japan. I and many, many other members of myfigurecollection have spent thousands online at the shops mentioned above. There's nothing wrong with them.

Amazon JP, AmiAmi or Cons, sometimes some other sites after a bit of research.

If you use regular Amazon be careful, prices are way higher and there are bootleggers everywhere + not a lot of options. Amazon JP is less likely to have bootlegs.

Cons you either go to the GoodSmile Company's booth, if they have one, or you get fan stuff, official stuff is harder to find in cons.

Don't worry about being lame now, you were always lame anyway!

Hey we have just made a new anime merch site called Danimeshop.com we are fairly new and would appreciate the support we spent a lot of time working on it and making sure we choose good quality products and trying to build up a community around our store and if you guys wanna check it out it'd be a major help and we are open to advice and criticism. Also we have tried to price it cheaper then the majority of anime stores as we are only starting out. Happy shoping!

Merchandise is pretty expensive in stores where I live, so I mainly use Amazon Japan for figures, manga, CDs etc; ordered twice stuff from CD Japan. So far no complaints.

Local stores or the annual geeky convention. Conventions are the best because some sellers can offer bargain deals. A guy once gave me a 60% discount on an already cheaper than normal new in the box xbox controller for no obvious reason. I usually avoid online marketplaces because shipping costs to my country are too high even though prices are lower in most cases.

Yahoo Japan Auctions for authentic stuff that is either Japan only or is no longer being distributed, it has pretty much everything however you may have to wait and check later for rarer stuff i think. You can use zenmarket if you want it translated to English and as a forwarding service from yahoo auctions to your country outside of Japan.

edit: also CD Japan and other similar similar sites might be good however they have more limited avaliability and stock, the nature of Yahoo Auctions means that stuff can keep coming back.

Amazon/adlibris most of the times.

Ebay sometimes very rarely.

Tradera to time to time if it has something fun.
It's similar to Ebay, but a swedish verison.
