The only people defending this show are some manga fans that likes the fact this is more faithful than the other seasons. But honestly, that's completly irrelevant. The overal quality of this show is far worst than the previous seasons. And I belive is one of the worst shows this year

People love to hate, it's as simple as that. The past season was god awful so people are jumping back on the bandwagon for the sake of it. Those being overly critical, like the guy above me, are clowns. Let me just say this, it's not great, but it's not that bad, and at least we can now properly understand fights without re-reading a page 50 times and still not understanding.

well saying the anime is garbage is just too much hating , the studio is the one to blame because they continued from the manga and retconed season 2 so most of the anime onlys are confused as fuuck , yeah the animation is kinda bad this season but still the series have its good moments , if you want to know the real detailed story of tokyo ghoul just read the manga otherwise stop hating because all i can see here that you are hating and not providing your opinion in appropriate way.

This on the other hand is garbage.

Basically this, lol. As much as I love Ishida's art, it's hard to follow the action sometimes, with similar-looking character designs and many zoomed-out action sequences (where character faces don't get drawn in).

I wouldn't say that it's garbage, but it's definitely underwhelming as hell.

- It remains faithful to the manga but like Season 1, misses a lot of details.
- The animation is fucking awful. It's even worse than Root A's
- The soundtrack is underwhelming compared to the 1st and 2nd seasons. It's good, but compared to the previous seasons, yeah it sucks lmao

There's some good parts tho
- Some of the scenes are done super well (Touka and Haise, Big Mama and Juuzou, Urie in general, and etc.)
- VA's are fucking phenomenal (like usual tho)

TLDR: It's watchable but it doesn't even compare to the manga

I have never read the manga so I can't really say much about the story and how faithful the anime is to the manga. So far I can sort of follow the story. Surely there are questions but they are not bothering me that much. I somehow always keep hope that those questions will be answered later on in the anime. If not, I'll have to figure it out from the manga at the end.

I can however say that the first two seasons of Tokyo Ghoul had a specific kind of atmosphere that got me hooked. Something that I had with Death Note, Darker than Black and Psycho Pass as well. The vibe was just perfect, and that is missing in the latest season.

I wouldn't say it is garbage. It is just that the previous seasons (whether it followed the manga or not) were made so good that this one is completely overshadowed. That, in combination with the main character having blocked out his memories and other characters completely vanished (for now I guess?), makes it kinda hard to continue watching for me though.

To be honest it's mainly the source material that wasn't good. It started off fairly poor imo then it gets decent for about 50 chapters before becoming poor again. They're being very faithful to the manga at least.

havent seen it yet, but if its more faithful to the manga then i can see why people don't like it.

I absolutely hated everything about :re when i first came off the original manga, i even dropped it around 20 or so chapters in. A few years later i came back to it and pushed through it and came to enjoy it more since i know what happens after the annoying shit.

Read the manga, then you will understand.
Season 1 was okay-ish, the second one was pure garbage. This one? No idea, it's neither good or bad, it's just boring. :RE will also have two seasons so idk.

I didn't read the manga so maybe it's just the anime, but God is this anime fucking bad. I like Tokyo Ghoul and I really like the opening of this new season. I even had high hopes when I saw that it's canon this time. But I fucking hate this.

Being an anime only viewer I don't get anything, whatever I do get isn't really that interesting. Eps 3-6 were like the worst, most frustrating run of episodes I've seen in Tokyo Ghoul. After watching them I realized what a mess, trash season this is. So many new characters that I don't care about, so many new plotlines created and shattered within minutes, a lot of distractions from what should be the main plot about Haise finding himself I guess? I'm not sure because it lacks so much focus.

I know that I'll probably understand what's going on if I read the manga, but I have every reason to complain about the anime. The anime should be separate from the manga and if I have to read the manga then what is the anime for?

Animation is not that good. Characters are not that good. I liked the original characters much better and I feel like this show is bloated with characters now. I don't like the group of Doves even though they're the main characters, I guess because 3/5 of the group is kinda useless?

The story isn't good or maybe the adaptation fucked it up. Either way this anime is unlikable so far.

I'll watch this all the way through because I already started, but this is like a 4/10 at best.

The problem here is not only season 2 was not canon but also they are rushing this season so much , so basically most of the characters backstories and development are thrown away and thats why you dont like the characters and dont care about them.
The manga on the other hand explain everything about the characters and the art is better than the anime art too , thats why most of the manga readers are pissed and anime onlys are confused af.
a reboot for season 2 was the best choice for them to make but yeah ...
as a manga reader 24 episodes could have been way better for me than rushed 12 episodes but still i enjoy it.
well i was an anime only too but when i started reading the tokyo ghoul and tokyo ghoul re manga i was like (WTF the anime is just trash compared to this).

Yup, I'm reading the manga and gosh it was confusing at times, I definitely prefer anime and I'm glad to see it animated, however I have to agree, the second part of the story hasn't been that good, it has some very good moments but also some not that good.

No one really knows but I can tell you this .... Still done by Studio Pierrot. But it's a new director , Watanabe Odahiro. Whether it's him to blame or the poor planning by producers idk , but he's been forced to storyboard 2 of the next 4 episodes, 2 outsourced to 'Korea' . So I guess shit continuity/ execution is expected. Bad planning + low manpower = GG no :Re

It’s not garbage…
I think most people, or at least a lot of people, miss the point of this show.
You see, in my opinion, Tokyo Ghoul:re paves the way for the second season. But it’s also a pretty good anime in itself.

People complain about the characters.. Well it’s only a 12 episode show. We can’t expect the complexity of perhaps Johan from Monster, or Edward from FMA, or Light from Death Note. No. Short shows like this have this problem. Especially when trying to adapt a manga with so many main characters. And given their time I think they did a pretty good job on them.
The main characters, the Quinx Squad, may seem bland in the beginning but that changes as the show progresses and we get some insight into their backstories. In my opinion the character that changes the most (apart from Haise of course) is Tooru Mutsuki (more said here will be to much of a spoiler). The only main character that I fell is useless is Saiko Yonebayashi. Throughout the show she doesn’t really do much and it fells that she is actually hindering the team (with 2 exceptions). But who knows what she will do in the second season. As for the supporting characters there are some really messed up ones (in a good way)

As for the story... Here is where I think most people get it the wrong way.
The show is indeed very confusing in the beginning. After TG and TGvA we are thrown in this world that’s completely different from what we knew.
But that’s the beauty of it. If in the first 2 shows everything is from ghoul perspective, this time we view things from the CCG side.
And what do we get to see? Some of the CCG members are just as messed up as some ghouls, even more maybe, others are just trying to make a living, earn money and are confronted with guilt feelings when they have to kill. I find this shift very interesting since the first 2 seasons didn’t dwell that much on the CCG side of the story. In TG Kaneki was the link between races and in :RE Haise is that link. He still thinks that „There must be another way”.

And there is a thing I love about this show. All the little.. say freebies we get (and small but well thought details like Haises hair throughout the show for example). I love a show that gives you insight on what’s going to happen. And we have that.. in the opening animation for example. The ending animation is also good and has some nice details about the present and the past. (those that skipped this because they didn’t liked the song.. you’re missing out guys) And throughout the series we get this little insights of what will happen next in the second season. Especially in the last 2-3 episodes. I can’t be the only one that noticed that...

As for the connection between vA and :re.. How is it that confusing? In the last episode of vA, after Kaneki puts down Hides body, the image shifts to Arima and his quinque briefcase and then we hear a „clasp” suggesting he opened the briefcase.. thus suggesting that the two of them will fight (or just Arima will kill Kaneki that has lost his desire to fight..) We just don’t get to see that fight. And after that, we see Arima standing, his quinque in front of him stabbed in the sea of white that surrounds him. Suggesting that he won. The rest, how did Kaneki become Haise is another story and it may or may not be explained in the second season.

It’s a good anime.. There are some things that bug me, some little inconsistencies in the animation, a character that I find pointless, some scenes that I find to repetitive and maybe not enough gore. But overall it’s really good. It has funny scenes, sad scenes, mild gore scenes, cute scenes, „wtf” scenes, battle scenes, messed up scenes...

Also another spoiler here, Haise says at one point „Do you know how scary it is to wake up and not know anything? How I feel because all I can do is rely on what is given to me..”
I find it’s kinda fit that we won’t know much either. And have to rely only on what we are given. ^-^ Sure the manga will bring more insight on things but TG:re really gives us the opportunity to speculate and imagine on our own based on the info we are given.

It is not a masterpiece but it’s definitely not garbage.
