yorimoi stands so far above all the other trash this season that if it was only half as good as it is it would still be the best

it speaks to things that matter to me and i appreciate all of the fine details and great execution on several fronts. i could say a lot more but it's probably not worth it on MAL

at the very least i'm confident it'll be a show that will be remembered down the road. no one's gonna give a fuck about nearly all if not all of the other shows posted in this thread in three years

big ups to everyone enjoying yorimoi and those mature enough to see the real goodness in it

Devilman: Crybaby is anime of the season by far for me, so, nope (though, I've only watched/am watching/have tried to watch 5 seasonals for now, so, yeah...) It'd probably be third on the five, after Devilman: Crybaby and Gakuen Babysitters. Saiki Kusuo S2, that I haven't watched yet will probably be in the TOP 3 as well. Except if it's really deceiving, which I doubt it'll be.

Anyway, so, I know the show is supposed to be slow, in the sense that it's all about the stages of going to Antartica, but since I lost interest in stuff quite easily when "not much" happens + I watch it as a seasonal (having to wait between episodes, and all) I guess it just isn't the best setting for my enjoyment to reach its max. I still enjoy it, think it's cute, touching and pretty, definitely get why people love this show so much, but it still isn't my favorite from what I've watched.

Hands down the best show to come out this season if not in the past few years. Honestly it hits all the right notes, beautiful artwork, engaging story, interesting characters and a fantastic OST to top it all off. Can easily see this being a show ill re watch for years to come

I Admit that Yorimoi is my AOTS but, please do not posts like this before the end of the season, it will end up attracting free hate to the anime

I asked if people think this is the best anime of the season so far. I do not really think this will attract hate to the anime. Most of the comments are positive.

I could have asked the same in the weekly episodes discussions, but I wanted to make a separate post to see if people are enjoying this anime as much as I am.

Man, you're underestimating MAL's notorious lambasting of any anime with 'best anime' in its threads, like flies to turd.

Sadly, this anime will remain no popular. Everybody will forget it in the future. Hence, it's only have 12 episodes.

Well lest popular = lest hate for sure.

Right now Yorimoi is much, much more popular in Japan based on Anikore stats, than in the Wild Weeb West known as MAL. And quite a lot of people who are watching it and gushing over it have said that they initially dismissed it as another copy-paste, run-of-the-mill CGDCT with self-contained structure of it's episodes (rather than a continuous story).

Also, please, don't feed the you-know-who, guys and gals. Don't feed and he will leave this thread very shortly.

I can't say that it's great yet, but it has a very high potential of becoming something great. Definitely the best anime this season, minus sequels. Yuru Camp is also pretty decent.

@thepath Wow, I'm surprised that you don't know what a slice-of-life is.

Yeah, because, quite obviously, the potential of males shipping an anime holds is the main reason I enjoy any show ever. Aren't I easy to satisfy honestly? Two males in a show? BOOM! Ship it! Best show! Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

I enjoy this much more than Yuru Camp. Yuru Camp is good because it's cute, comfy and entertaining, but I don't really know much or care much about the characters. And it's the characters that make Sora Yori for me. All their interactions feel so real and genuine, I feel like I've known them for over 300 episodes. Definitely my AOTS.

As for YM vs YC: when the icebreaker reaches Antartica, they'll find Shimarin camping there with the disappeared lady! Remember Rin was reading "UFO Encounter Files" at one campsite and note how one of the boys during Yorimori's school farewell scene actually mentioned the "UFO buried in ice" at Antartica. Cue X-files music.

On the other hand, one thing which distracts me from rating YM very high (apart from the melodrama and the filler ep) is characters talking about the big financial difficulties of their civilian Antartic expedition during ep7, while Yorimori anime itself is obviously extremely well funded, in music, voice cast and HD visual art. That's a paradox and makes it hard to take the plot seriously, considering how many worthy anime projects had real financial and/or manpower difficulties this year (e.g. zombie-level CGI in Tsuki ga Kirei, stickman animation and recap ep in Just Because, even Yurucamp has unjusitified still scene use sometime).

Maybe Yorimori staff should have decreased animation quality gradually as the episodes progress into darker and more miserable territory? Remember there isn't even satellite video coverage on the inside of Antartica (only voice-modem level comms provided by the Iridium sat network), so HD is not realistic.

It just dawned on me that Yori Moi simply cannot be AotS, due to the simple fact that Antartica is located in the southern hemisphere, where seasons are reversed, compared to Japan, Europe or USA. We have the winter anime season currently, but the South Pole is currently experiencing summer time, thereby disqualified!

Thus Yori Moi either becomes AotY or nothing!

I think this season has large number of great anime. Seven Dealy sins 2 is masterpiece, last fight was great. Even shows like Killing Bites is so much fun to watch compared to the slow pace and boring show like Yuru Camps and this one

wow, when you consider Killing bites and Citrus as a “Good anime”, no wonder you disliked a real good anime.. Also you mixed up the word “boring” with “not intellectually enough to understand”.. But hey everyone got their own opinions right

Counting sequels in the contest is just boring.

I kind of wish we could filter sequels from the seasonal charts.

Although either way Sora Yori wins by a mile.

Gaaaaaahhhh... I was so certain Darling in the Frankxx would be my AotS, but then I found Devilman: Crybaby and now this. This season is turning out waaaaaaay better than I expected it to when I first skimmed through the seasonal list in January. For now, all 3 are in close contention for my personal AotS. Guess it'll all be down to my mood because honestly, they're all really different and appeal to different kinds of people... I just happen to be all those kinds of people in one, heh...

A bit late, but... you cannot possibly be serious, right?

How are fictional plot points about the financial state of a FICTIONAL Antarctic expedition and real-life studio budget constraints related in any way? Or how is Antarctic satelite coverage and HD-ness of the anime even remotely connected??

By extension of your logic, Samurai anime would be impossible because Samurais didn't have video cameras in the 1800s. And all movies with characters living in poverty should have shitty animation because the best way to convey a fictional character's state of financial wellbeing is by obviously animating them with featureless, terribly drawn stills... (that's sarcasm by the way)
The most annoying thing about some anime is that they don't know when they've died...

Yuru Camp is very good too, but I still think it is similar to other iyashikei shows we've had and will have. I mean, it will end and I'll be able to replace it for the next iyashikei of the season. Yorimoi feels more unique and harder to replace.

Yep, I agree that Yuru Camp has some extra appeal, I think due to the atmosphere (in a similar way Non Non Biyori did with its rural setting). Maybe it's just that next season's top iyashikei will most likely be Amanchu Advance for me and this last one does a better work with character building.

If you enjoy Yuru Camp you certainly should check this one. I was actually drawn to YC for having the same premise as Amanchu, an outdoor activity (diving in this case). The visuals are astounding and it has that Kozue Amano's magic touch from ARIA.

This is my anime of the season for sure. 10 episodes in and I love it. Just a good balance of comedy and drama. The journey is where it is at and actually made me want to take that journey as well. Will be sad to see it go. Such great characters with proper development.

Yuru Camp is also awesome. I have been winter camping and it is pretty fun so this is another warm series to enjoy. It's so good that these two that could have fallen under the radar are the standouts when so many others were much more anticipated. Pretty good season overall but these are the two I look forward to the most.

Also, we must not feed the troll. Trolls are pathetic sad people that live in their own world of trash. Just leave them there.

Oh boy. The story is inspiring, but nothing that will blow you away. However, the characters are excellent and they made the show for everyone.
