What's the point of giving some anime girls just 1 pointy tooth that is always is visible?

Is there something I'm missing? Is there a group of people who love this designs choice or what?
Personally I think it looks dumb but they seem to run rampant in anime.
Where did this even originate from?

It's supposed to make them appear more cat-like, and cats are cute.
I'm guessing they don't put 2 pointed tooths, 'cause that might look to intimidating.

It's supposed to be a cute fang.

It can look cute when done correctly, but a lot of artists these days will throw a single fang onto every single main character they draw, and it's getting old very quickly.

They're pretty much cute little fangs, which I call them "Tsun-fangs" cause most of them that have that are tsunderes anyway.

Per wikipedia: "In Japan, yaeba (八重歯) is human teeth, especially upper canines, with an uncommonly fang-like appearance. In Japan it is perceived as a sign of youthfulness."
(I don't perceive that kind of design as being merely aesthetic though, as it seems to come with feisty personalities.)
This is also mentioned in the tvtropes article.
I'd guess that having merely one fang visible is to avoid vampire connotations.

Something like this looks even more horrible, it's kind of irritating and distracting when I'm watching Fate/Apocrypha. Not even sure if it's supposed to be some sort of deformed lips or a tooth that has skin color.

Well, it happen when an anime dont have any selling point beside the character appearance. If you cant make good in the other aspect, make the waifu cute LOL.
Dont take it seriously, but its true.

It's called a trope. And it's a tiny detail that increases cuteness so I don't see the problem with it. It doesn't take away anything, it just adds a small cutesy tidbit.
I probably regret this post by now.

It's supposed to look cute, but I think it looks dumb. Like they're some kinda twisted malformed products of incest between two Goofies.

Represents cute/youthfulness. As for me, I've literally never bothered with it in anime. Though I have to say crooked teeth with slightly protruding canines in real life are kinda cute.

I never understood the straight pearly white teeth thing, it's brings way too much attention to someone's mouth. I've got a straight set of teeth with a slight natural yellow tinge, wouldn't really have it any other way. Though my canines on the small side, about level with my other teeth, so a slightly larger set of canines would be nice because I've always found tearing smaller pieces of meat from larger ones difficult.

In the case of anime, the choice to animate 1 canine rather than 2, as OP has posted
is probably because of the sinister implications that got associated with 2 canines because vampires.
If your favourite character is Tsutsukakushi Tsukiko, you are my soul mate.

Been a long time since I've been here, I'll continue expressing myself freely and believe everyone should too.
