*RAGE*

Why can't Kurapika go slap him awake?! Why can't the guy just pretend he's sleeping?! Why do they want to waste my time by dragging this one scene so long?!

The pacing has been rather slow so far. Hisoka playing cards was definitely the best part of this episode xD

Definitely. The dude he was playing cards with was really... interesting, as well.

Leorio was smuuurrrt this episode. :) Still wish someone would just push Tompa off, though. Or let Killua have his way with him. <.<

This episode wasn't the best, they dragged this part a bit. Nice attitude of Leorio though.

Leonio's bluff was pretty good. I like this test so far.

Betting time on whether or not someone is alive. Not something I recall seeing before. XD

Kind of a slow episode, but I like the betting aspect of it. I think the good guys will come out ahead with a bunch of extra hours...let's see!

So Hisoka gets along with anyone as long as they're a monster themselves!?

That's interesting...

I liked this episode, they showed a bit more of Hisoka and how cruel he is while fighting.

I feel like the betting part was a bit unnecessary, Kurapika could've easily found out if the guy was still conscious or not but I guess he didn't want to beat him in case he was really unconscious, which is admirable.

These matches/episodes (from a narrative standpoint) are very, very intriguing. Mainly in the sense that the script-writing and plot devising is clever and outside of the box.

Everything has mainly been psychological. There’s so many different strategies and mind games being executed. I’m absolutely thrilled. Two people beating each other up would be a typical anime route, but HxH is really distinguishing itself here, as the characters are forced to succeed in the exam using their wits and critical thinking. One of the biggest components has been bluffing and bartering, curiously enough.

I don't find any of this boring (as opposed to some of the other kiddos here ;)). This is a refreshing change of pace from all the other "action shonen". Any manga/anime writer can think to have two characters engage in physical combat with their fists or a sword, but the HxH writers have to be really creative to come up with endless strategic loopholes that the characters have to jump through. If you think Kurapika or Leorio are perceptive, then realize that the people who built this show from the ground up must be geniuses.

Basically, Kurapika fucked it up and Leorio fixed it. Hisoka is cool and the other two participants are skilled, I guess.

The music when Leorio was inspecting Majitani was the first music I've specifically really liked in this show so far. Nice 90s rpg feel to it.

I never really understood the crux of this episode though. Its fine that Kurapika doesn't want to kill Majitani but why doesn't he go back out and kick him in the ribs to see if he's alive? Every time I get to this point of the series it feels flimsy and even this version with all its edits can't make it totally make sense.
