☩Welcome to the Party☩ (Track: Soul of soul) There was once a country with two castles - a castle of truth tellers and a castle of liars. Both possessed halves of a very valuable treasure, and both wanted each other’s half. They were always at the verge of war, but since they were even in power, war would mean mutual destruction, so they maintained a very treacherous peace. One day, however, a third castle appeared on the lands. Neither side knew who built the castle, or whether the castle was full of truth tellers or liars. Fueled by fear and paranoia, the truth tellers and liars began a terrible war. Both treasures were stolen and hidden away, but by the end of the war, the three castles were left barren and ruined. Today, they now exist as the Blue Castle, the Red Castle, and the Golden Castle. Hardly any remembers anymore which was the Castle of Truths, the Castle of Liars, or the mysterious third castle that could be full or truths or lies. For the truth behind the treasure and its location, it is spoken only in whispers and myths. What is known though is the legend: the treasure still lies within one of the three castles. Which one it is, however, is buried beneath layers of Truths and Lies. ___ (Track: Golden sneer) Make a guess at the truths and lies! Message me your answers if you think you figured it out. If you get it wrong, feel free to resubmit, be beware: you have limited guesses for the bonus puzzle! Feel free to answer one or both, and remember: don't rush! The blue stones shone brightly as if they were made of gems, opposite to the red flames that lit the grounds. No, even the flames seemed blue as the stones reflected the flames' light back. The night was cold, as the autumn winds had begun to sweep the lands. There were no birds, no insects, and no people. The trees had no leaves left, making the forest seem like a forest of bones and stone. Swaying branches, the soft howling wind, and a single motor were the only sounds that filled the air. In front of the castle stood a traveler and a motorrad. Under a pair of goggles and a worn out hat, a young traveler was around the age of 15 could be seen approaching the opened front gate - a warm gesture that contrasted with the cold, imposing structure. A river snaked around and under the draw bridge - clear and serene - reflected a moon half-covered by clouds. The traveler dismounted and moved at a slow but light-footed pace, examining the inner castle walls while wishing to escape the darkness. Along the way, the motorrad's wheels squeaked the whole way through with the weak wooden floors. ___ (Track: Voiceless) In the middle of the entryway, a middle aged man stood like a butler. He looked like he should be serving a royal house somewhere, yet he remained here in this worn out castle. "Welcome to our humble castle! I assure you, we offer the worst of services for all who wish to lodge with us!" "I can't believe he just said that. Kino, are you sure about staying here tonight?" The motorrad remarked as it came to a stop. "It's fine Hermes, it's just one night, and since each castle is a days' apart, you must be just as as exhausted as I am," the traveler replied while dismounting. "Besides, that's just the Blue Castle's uniqueness I suppose. At least they're honest about it, though I must wonder why." The traveler pondered, turning to the man in front. The man chuckled slightly, holding his hand over his mouth as to not seem rude. "Ah, we hoped to maintain the aesthetic of a rustic old castle, but it seems our means of entertainment must have worked to well! Regardless, I assume you would like to put your things away and eat a warm meal, yet I would also like to give you a tour of the castle. But, alas, no one will be here tomorrow, as the Harvest Festival will occur, and no one is to be within these walls during that time." "Then it's fine, we aren't that sleepy yet. We'll tour the castle right now, and after that we'll go to our rooms to rest. The previous castle, despite its quirks, had great food, comfortable beds and interesting stories, so I'd be curious to learn more about this one." The traveler responded. "And this place is still a lot better than the one before that one, and that's saying something!" The motorrad added. "Splendid, then follow me." The man said as he gestured the two to follow him. ___ (Track: As time goes by) Guiding the traveler and the motorrad, the man showed them stairwells, paintings, dining halls and royal chambers. They were all fairly aged, as if the castle was neglected for years despite being inhabited. The walls were all decorated with blue banners, carrying blue emblems resembling a blue cat. Though, there didn't seem to be anyone else in the castle. The only sounds that could be heard were the travelers' and the man's footsteps, as well as the motorrad's wheels. Though, occasionally, the soft sounds of tiny footsteps could be heard, though it could easily be mistaken as the cold winds outside. The walls blue walls felt cold to the touch, and the flames were to weak to provide any warmth. It seemed like the whole castle was dead. "So," chimed the traveler, "I heard that this country had was famous for its food and festivals, but it was supposed to be a country of Witches, and on top of that, it's also a country of truth and lies?" "Our reputation precedes us, as it would," the man replied. "In our past, yes, we were ruled by witches." As the three moved through the inner chambers, they passed a large painting. It was of a young girl with long blue hair sitting on a throne chair far too big for her. She wore a doll-like dress, and had eyes that seemed too dull to be human. She reminded the traveler of a cat - one that had died a hundred deaths, giving her those emotionless, inhuman eyes. The man stood in front of the picture, looking up with eyes of wonder. "Yes, she was the witch that ruled the lands. As it were this was once a barren country with two castles - a castle of truth tellers and a castle of liars. The Castle of Truth held a very valuable treasure, and the Castle of Liars wanted it. But, because the Witch of the land resided in this castle, using her magic, she summoned demons whom devoured everyone in the Castle of Truth in bloody banquet, using their remains to fertilize the lands, making it into what it is today. In their wake, the treasure was seized and the Castle of Truth was obliterated. Since then, we have celebrated the Witch during our Harvest Festival for her great generosity and guidance. It's during this time that we have three events: the first day is the arrival of the Witch who gives us her blessings, the second day is the grand feast, and the third day is the actual celebration, where we have bonfires and parades. We even serve human sacrifices during the event to honor the Witch!" "But that's a lie, right?" "Hahaha! And I thought I would be the entertainer, young traveler! Yes, perhaps what I said was a lie, but I would be ruined if I gave away all my secrets! Please be aware though while things you hear in this country be a lie, the best lies are the ones that come right after a truth! Truths make the lies all the more believable after all. It would bode you well to remember that as you travel!" The man chuckled as he walked along. "Although, while the story may be questioned, it is unquestionable that there was once a great famine in this country, but the lands were restored. With lands so barren, what else but magic could have revived it? Also, I must ask, do you believe those other castles to be authentic? After all, this is the castle where the Witch once lived in. They could have very well been created in recent times to try and copy us." The traveler thought for a moment, looking up into the dulled eyes of the Witch painting. "But it's just a story, right? Things like witches and magic don't exist...right?" "Perhaps so, perhaps so, but how can you be sure? Do you have proof that the Witch could not have existed?" "I could ask a similar question. Do you have proof that the Witch was real?" The man, upon hearing the question, stopped walking and responded with a tilt of his head and a kind smile. Warm. Unflinching. Impenetrable. It seemed like he had nothing left to say. Or, perhaps, there was no answer that could be given. The traveler pondered some more while looking around at the blue castle walls. The hallways seemed to go on forever, as did the deadening silence. All except that soft pat, pat, pat, resounding through the walls like a wandering child's fleeing steps. ___ (Track: None) The two people and the motorrad arrived at the guest room. With a chipper step, the man approached the door and began sifting through a ring of keys. "Well, I suppose it was a bit too much fun for one day." The man remarked. "Perhaps if we had more time we could also try looking for the treasure buried somewhere on the grounds of this very castle!" "Yes, that would have been fun, but it's getting late, so we're turning in for the night." The traveler said with the motorrad on the side. "But Kino, if we found the treasure, we wouldn't have to camp out so much!" "Maybe, who knows. Though, it may just buy us better camping gear instead." The motorrad didn't seem to like the traveler's joke, giving a resounding "Hmph!" in response. While the man stood a bit away laughing at this chatter, the traveler thought for a moment, staring at the blue walls, the window showing the night sky, the candle lit guest room, and back at the man. (Track: Fishy aroma) "By the way..." the traveler began while raising a right hand. "...what hand am I holding up?" "Now, now, that would be too easy, wouldn't it, just saying left or right indicated if I were truthful or a liar?" The man responded with a hearty chuckle. "Hmm...then how about this, do you think the Witch real? How about magic, or the treasure?" "I'm sorry, but perhaps I got too carried away with today. The treasure may or may not be in this castle, but the treasure does exists and is here somewhere in this very country, that is certain. As far as the Witch goes...." "......perhaps if you had specific questions, you would like to speak to her instead?" Those tiny footsteps, they........... "nipah~" .......................................................................... ☩Act 2☩ (Track: Steady pace) It was a red castle that rested within a valley. The red stones reflected off the midday sun, shining brightly like an unrelenting flame. There were a number of red autumn trees placed around the perimeter, where workers seemed to be digging holes underneath the cover of the trees' bright red glow. The surrounding land seemed rich with life, with nothing but fertile earth and grass stretching for lengths on end. In front of the castle stood a traveler and a motorrad. Under a pair of goggles and a worn out hat, a young traveler was around the age of 15 could be seen approaching the opened front gate - undaunted by its dominating presence. The day was at its peak, but the autumn winds still blew through the lands. With a slight shiver, the traveler quickly moved inside the extravagant halls. Every stone seemed like a valuable red gem, and the excessive decorations matched the impressions. Everything seemed adorned with decorations, though some were unfinished and half-erected. There were signs of people running about, though there were no people at the castle walls nor the gate. There were only warm remains of what appeared to be hard working people rushing about. Half-eaten bread, used towels still drenched in sweat, and a number of flyers advertising for some upcoming event. ___ (Track: Melody) "....welcome...please come in..." In the middle of the entryway, there stood a young man who seemed too tired to even stand. He swayed slightly back and forth, and his untucked tie and messy hair swayed in contrary to his butler-like attire. "Now this looks like a trustworthy place. Kino, the last place was terrible, but this castle looks like the right place to stay!" The motorrad chimed. "Hmm...Excuse me, are you feeling okay?" The traveler asked the young man after dismounting. With a yawn, the young man stared at the traveler for a moment. "...slayed a dragon last night...saved the world...married a catgirl princess..." "Um...was that a lie?" "...that was a lie...the truth is...big festival in two days...multiple all nighters...constant work..." Giving a gesture to follow him, the young man sluggishly moved inside the inner hallways. After staring awkwardly for a moment, the traveler and the motorrad followed along. "Kino," the motorrad whispered, "I think this guy has a few screws loose." "It was just a joke. It must be this castle's tradition or something. I guess it's not a lie if he quickly corrects himself, but still..." ___ (Track: Black Lilliana) Inside the hallways, it seemed as if the festival had already begun. People were bustling left and right, up and down, and if gravity would allow, they may have also been running on the walls and ceilings. Boxes to the left, lumber to the right, pumpkins in the front and scattered decorations all around. The cooking equipment seemed large enough to serve tens of cattle at once, and there was even a grand table for what was shaping to be for an equally grand banquet. "....watch your..." "Whoa!" "Ouch!" With a thud, the traveler accidentally dropped the motorrad on the ground after rolling it over assorted costumes. "...step..." "Geez, be more careful with me Kino! I could have been scratched!" "Sorry Hermes, but seriously, is there any way we can stay the night here?" "...one room left...upstairs..." As the three walked past the crowd of people frantically moving things to and fro, they went upstairs and went through a number of decorated halls. The traveler noted a large number of red ribbons hanging across the ceilings, red pumpkin symbols dotting every corner, and a distinct feeling that everyone was giving strange glances at them at every turn. "So, this is the Castle of Truth, right?" "...no...this is the Castle of Pumpkins..." "Was...that a lie?" "...that was a lie...well no..." "What?" "...the Witch...likes pumpkins...that's the truth......*yawn*" As they passed a grand hallway, there was a large, over-extravagant painting of a young girl in a poofy pink dress, red ribbons, and a pumpkin brooch. Her golden hair seemed to stand out amidst her pink and red appearance, and she gave an almost demeaning sneer at those who looked up at her. She looked like a normal human girl, but no human alive would wear that much pink. Perhaps. "I heard there was a great treasure in these lands. Do you know anything about it?" The traveler asked. "Yeah, yeah! Is it something like gold or jewels, or maybe some royal heirloom?" The motorrad curiously added. "...uh...not sure...but I think it was something more valuable..." "Hmm..." Pondering, the traveler continued looking at the portrait, studying the excessive amount of frills and ribbons. "We've been to one castle before, and saw similar things in a...kinda sorta way. The man there said a Harvest Festival would be happening in this country today which is why we arrived just now, but you said there was still two days?" "...that was the Castle of Liars probably...they're liars...they lie so much...they think what they speak is the truth...they mix truths with lies so much...they can't even tell that their lies are lies..." "I...I see. Anyways, you mentioned the festival was actually in two days, right?" "...yes...it marks the day...Witch...*yawn*..." The young man turned to the portrait of the red and pink witch, staring at it with a sense of regret. (Track: At death's door) "...in red flames...she burned..." "B-Burned you said?" "...the Blue Witch...the Red Witch...the Golden Witch...they all burned..." From what was told in the legend, there was once a country with two castles - a castle of truth tellers and a castle of liars. Both came to possess halves of a very valuable treasure, and both wanted each other’s half. They were always at the verge of war, but since they were even in power and were both undergoing a terrible food shortage, war would mean mutual destruction, so they maintained a very treacherous peace. One day, however, a third castle appeared on the lands. Neither side knew who built the castle, or whether the castle was full of truth tellers or liars. Fueled by fear and paranoia, the Truth Tellers, the Liars, and those in the third castle began a terrible war. Both treasures were lost, and the three castles were left barren, ruined and dead. It was said in the story that three witches ruled over each of the castles, with the most powerful of the witches living in the third mysterious castle - the one that almost seemingly magically appeared. The two other witches combined their forces to fight the third witch, but all the while still fighting each other, and upon the end of the war, all three were killed in the flames of war that engulfed their own castles. ___ (Track: Lure) Upon finally arriving at the guest room, the young man slowly took out a ring of keys and began sifting through them, one by one for what seemed like an eternity. Being bored, the motorrad dozed off while the traveler looked around the halls again, glancing at the decorations once more. "By the way, can I ask a few questions?" "...yes...?" The young man answered as he finally opened the guest room door. "I asked you before, but just to make sure, everything you've said today has be true, right?" "...yes...?" "Is it midday right now?" "...yes...?" "And is this a guest room?" ".........yes...?" "What color is this castle?" "...............red...?" "Are the witches, the hidden treasure, and the magic real? As in, really, really real?" "...um...don't know..." "Well, that's okay. My last question though..." The traveler said while raising a right hand. "...What hand am I holding up?" "........right...?" ___ (Track: None) Slightly disappointed, the traveler laid on the bed, staring at the ceiling. "Hmm...I wonder if the questions were too obvious." "You have to be more direct! Maybe if you didn't ask him something so oblivious, he wouldn't have left so awkwardly." The motorrad remarked, parked at the other side of the room. "...I think you meant 'obvious.'" "I know what I said." With a defeated sigh, the traveler continued thinking about the day's events. At least, until the a sluggish knock was heard from the door. Puzzled, the traveler got up and opened the door, wondering who it could be. "...forgot..." It was the young man carrying a food plate covered with a lid. "Oh, thank you very much. I didn't realize we also got food with the room. That's very generous." The traveler replied reach for the plate, but the young man moved back a step, guarding the plate. "...that's...that's mine..." "Uh, I'm sorry. Then what's that plate for?" "...banquet...downstairs...you can go get some too..." "Ah, so that's what's going on! Thank you, I'll go get some right now." (Track: Golden slaughterer) The traveler was about to leave, but then suddenly stopped. The traveler stopped as if concrete had been poured all over the ground. It was as if the air had suddenly turned stale and castle had suddenly turned cold. The world had stopped moving for the traveler. Drip. Drip. Drip. Something was dripping. Was it a leak? No, there was no running water. But something dripped. It was a thick, disguising sound mixed in with the faint sounds of festivities downstairs. What was it? The traveler pondered this, looking back at the young man. Red liquid was dripping from under the plate lid. "Excuse me..." The traveler began, "...what do you have on your plate?" "...meat...a little raw..." As he said this, the sounds of festivities seemed to sound more like...Cries? Screams? The traveler wanted to confirm what this banquet was downstairs, but... "...What kind of banquet is this?" The traveler asked, glaring at the young man. Confused, the young man stared back at the traveler. "...Witch Banquet...downstairs...the Witch has arrived..." ☩Act 3☩ (Track: Towering cloud in summer) It was a golden castle at the top of a hill. The golden cladding glowed passionately beneath the morning sun, like a golden crown upon the lands. In front of the castle stood a traveler and a motorrad. Under a pair of goggles and a worn out hat, a young traveler was around the age of 15 could be seen approaching the opened front gate - the raggedy traveler seemed completely out of place before the gilded monolith. There were no trees nor rivers around this castle, as its riches seemed to emanate from the castle itself The day had only begun, and autumn winds had just begun to awaken as well. Birds chirping resounded in the crisp air. The fragrance of flowers swayed along with the falling autumn leaves, signalling the depths of the season. The traveler moved at a slow pace, examining looking in awe at the golden halls and grounds. Along the way, the motorrad's wheels carried dirt and grime over the expensive looking carpets, making the travel feel somewhat uneasy about entering further. ___ (Track: Novelette) "Welcome to the Castle of Truth. We hope your stay will be to your liking." An old mad stood in the middle of the entryway. He seemed like he should have retired to the countryside a long time ago, but he still stood here, maintaining a humble air of dignity and respect. "Wow...this place is amazing! Can we even afford to stay here?" The motorrad wondered aloud. "Do not fret," the old man remarked, "you can be assured that all your expenses will free in celebration of the Harvest Festival tomorrow." "Well, there you have it Hermes." The traveler remarked happily while dismounting. "We have just arrived in this country today, and we plan on staying three days in total. I saw that there were three castles in this country that carried an interesting history, so I was hoping to stay one night in each castle." The old man nodded and gestured the two to follow him into the inner corridors. "You really picked a pricey looking place this time Kino. How can we possibly afford to stay here?" "We don't have to stay here tonight. From what I heard, this country has an amazing treasure in one of these castles, so wouldn't it make sense to visit the golden one first? So why not at least look around first and decide from there?" Unconvinced, the motorrad decided to go along with its rider's decision to see what happens. ___ (Track: Haze) All around, workers stood at the ready to serve guests at a moment's notice. They wore golden attire that shone as bright as their unrelentingly bright smiles. Golden chandeliers, golden fountains, golden gardens, golden chapels, and even a golden spa with water that sparked with golden tint; the Golden Castle seemed to have everything to charm even the most jaded of affluent heirs. It was so blinding that the traveler nearly fainted a few times. "I heard that there was a great treasure in the lands. Was this castle the treasure itself?" The traveler wondered out loud. "Hahahahaha! If only it were that simple!" The old man replied. Slowing down his walking pace, he leaned over to the traveler. "Just between you and me," he began with a low whisper, "this castle is just for appearances. The gold here is in such low purity that a regular stone would probably be worth just as much." "Really?" The traveler replied with great surprise. "Then what about the chandeliers, the water, and everyone's clothes!?" "Shh! It's supposed to be a secret, but no one would ever tell you if they were from here!" The old man suddenly quickened his pace, guiding the traveler and the motorrad into a deserted hallway, away from observant eyes. "Then, if what you're saying is true, then means this isn't the Castle of Truth?" The traveler asked. "Well, it's a little more complex than that." ___ (Track: Dead angle) As the old man explained, The Land of Truth and Lies is fabled to been the home of a Witch. In the far past, it was once an infertile land of dirt and dust. According to the legend, one day, people came here tried to settle, but were unable to revive the land. Upon the brink of giving up and abandoning the lands, the settlers were met with a witch, who struck a deal with them. The settlers were given fertile land, a castle to live in, and a great treasure to call their own. However, in order to for the magic to persist, the treasure must be kept safe within the lands, else the magic would vanish, and the lands would die. The over many generations, the treasure was guarded safely within the castle, and the lands continued to produce healthy crops and animals. Upon one year though, the lands grew weaker. Crops would wither and the animals would die. This continued into the next year, the year after, and the year after that one too. The people began to raise questions among themselves. Some suspected that the magic was weakening, meaning someone attempted to steal the treasure. They believed that the magic was True, and the people should hunt down those who tried to defy the witch. Others suspected that it was a natural process, and there was, in fact, no witch. They believed the legends were Lies and it was fabricated to try and hoard the treasure and secure power, draining the lands of all its riches for personal gain. Both sides argued and fought, but to prevent mutual destruction through civil war, they decided to split the treasure and create a second castle. With this truce, it was hoped that they would not have to go to war, but tensions still remained. In mockery of each other, the Castle of Truths committed themselves to only tell the truth, speaking only on the truths they've found on the witch and their lands. The Castle of Liers, instead, grew to speak only in lies, denying the Castle of Truths and world around them. One day, however, a third castle appeared. Both sides thought the other created this new castle, and as the tension broke, the three castles waged a terrible war that ruined the country, causing the treasure to be lost. At least, that's how the old man's story went. One theory is that the witch, through her magic, created the third mysterious castle in a single night. She broke the truce and caused the war. The treasure originally belonged to the witch, so this was her way of getting the treasure back. Or, perhaps there were actually three witches, and each witch had secret rule over their own castles. The treasure was what brought ruin to them. A second theory is that there were no witches. Perhaps the story was a ruse created someone using the legend of witches to steal it for themselves. Or, perhaps the witches were normal humans with great knowledge in agriculture and construction to have revived the lands and built the third castle? Such feats could have been considered magic by pre-modern standards, but then what was the mysterious treasure which caused the great war? There were many others proposed by past scholars, but there was never a true consensus as to the true history of the country, the existence of the witches, where the treasure came from, the location of the treasure, nor of what the treasure even was. If it did exist, it must have been passed down somehow, else it should have stayed as a baseless legend. What was the truth? Was there even a truth? ___ (Track: Witch in gold (cembalo)) "...so this was all a lie?" The traveler pondered. "You see, I'm actually an archaeologist from a foreign land, and I'm studying artifacts of the country for personal research. You seemed to be interested in the country's history as well, so I'd be curious to know what you think of it so far." The old man wondered over to a portrait of a woman, staring up into the woman's eyes like with admiration, yet with a bit of pity. No, it wasn't just a portrait of a woman. It was of a Witch. It was unmistakably a Witch. The Golden Witch. "After all, regardless if these stories are real or false, it's true that there was a war fought in the lands, and many had died in its wake." The old man spoke in a solemn tone. The traveler stared at the painting as well, looking deep into the eyes of the Golden Witch in deep contemplation. She had golden hair, held a golden pipe and wore an elegant black dress that bore the symbol of a golden one-winged eagle. The Witch seemed to stare back with a piercing gaze. She wasn't frightening, nor was she condescending. It was as if anything considered 'human' would be the same as furniture in her eyes: worthless, meaningless, and easily broken and replaced. "Oh, and by the way young traveler, while there is in fact a Harvest Festival occurring soon, the stay isn't free." "W-What?" "And while the extravagant castle was a lie, I can guarantee you that the pay isn't anything short of extravagant." "K-K-Kino, we can't stay here!" The motorrad spoke in an alarmed tone. "Yeah...it seems like we'll have to camp out tonight. The next castle is still too far away to get to without driving through the night." The traveler said dejectedly. "Ah, I believe you must mean the Red Castle. Yes, yes, that is still quite the length away, and I heard the country's festival would begin there. Yes, I believe as it goes, a woman chosen by the country would wear witch's clothes and begin a celebration that is hosted by one castle of that festival, where people also in costumes would have fun and eat foods and drinks you'd expect at any other festival, but with our own country's unique traditions of course.." The old man mused. "Unfortunately, this was as much as I could be of help, but I'm glad that I was able to speak as much as I was able with you." "And I thank you for what you have told me. Though, I wonder what the truth is with the people living here." "Curious enough, the people in this castle aren't really true inhabitants, they actually descend from Truth Tellers and had taken ownership of this castle after the war in search of the treasure, but isn't the castle itself fascinating? As it turns out, the hill stands atop of a mineral deposit, and the castle itself was made from what was mined in the surrounding area. They thought it was real gold at the time, and they still do. Granted however, the stones used in this castle are very good and are from nearby quarries, so constructing this castle in a short time span is very possible. Come to think of it, luckily it wasn't real gold, else the castle might have robbed block by block over the years! Today as it stands, the present-day inhabitants believed the lies of this castle, and stand proud before its gilded halls as if they were kings and queens!" "So...does the treasure exists?" "Possibly, it would be splendid if it did." "So...then where would you say the treasure was, and what even was it?" "Ahahahahahaha! Goodness me, isn't that a question worth a fortune?" ___ (Track: Fishy aroma) As the traveler was about to depart, the traveler looked up at the morning sun, tracing its bright rays down to the false golden castle, and eventually turned to face the old man. "By the way," the traveler pondered out loud, "you said before that this wasn't the Golden Castle?" "Well, the truth is that it really is the Golden Castle, but in name only. It's just as the Blue Castle and Red Castle are called such in name only as well. They are not made of gold or gems, but are simply called as such for their colors. Whether you speak to a Truth Teller or Liar, that much is obvious." "And you said before that the people currently living here aren't its true inhabitants, right?" "Yes, that I am certain of. They are not native to this castle." The old man replied. "And they are Truth Tellers by nature?" "Yes, though what they believe in are all lies. They do tell the truth on occasion, but the main point is that when they lie, they speak it as if it were the truth, because that's what they believe, so much so that it distorts their minds." "Also, you said you were from a foreign land? You are not from this castle?" "That is correct on both points. I'm not from this castle, nor am I from this country." For a brief moment, the traveler paused, raised a right hand, then asked: ".............By the way..........What hand am I holding up?" "That is your left hand, is it not?" ☩Epilogue☩ (Track: Answer) The traveler and the motorrad had departed from the Blue Castle on the last day of their visit. After bidding farewell to the man there, they traveled for most of the day to pass by the Red Castle, where the Harvest Festival was about to end. "So Kino, which castle did you think was lying and telling the truth?" The motorrad asked, as the two looked at the Red Castle from afar. They could see fireworks lighting up the evening sky and a large bonfire in the open courtyard with people dancing about in honor of the Witches. The traveler could barely see the three women dressed in the Witch's outfit, signified by the other people dancing around her. "Hmm...maybe they're all telling the truth in their own ways. After all, if all they have is what they know, then wouldn't that be the truth to them?" "But the Golden Castle were definitely a bunch of liars. We almost got scammed into staying there! The Blue and Red Castles were weird, but they were still honest at the end!" The motorrad cried. "Yeah, I guess that's true." "Then what about the treasure? Did you figure out what it was?" "Probably." "Really? When did you figure that out?" "Well..." The traveler pondered, thinking back to the running river owned by the Blue Castle, the expansive lands owned by the Red Castle, and the famine they experienced in the past. "I think it was during that great feast at the Red Castle. Yup. Odd dishes aside, at least all the fruits and vegetables were good. I don't know about eating raw pork and beef like that, but I suppose with their past, food is very important to this country. They must have been desperate back then. The fruits and vegetables aside, it must have been a tradition to eat animals alive." "Then what did the castles fight about in the past?" "Well, the castles had something each other didn't have, right? If the two halves of the treasure were The Blue Castle's river and the Red Castle's land, then put that together with the famine and..." "....Oh, so they're like kids fighting over each other's toys?" "Well, it's a little more important than that..." "So do you think the Red and Blue Castles were the original ones? Weren't they both Truth Tellers?" "Hmm....I'm not sure. The old man in the Golden Castle said the people there were Truth Tellers, but they were actually liars since he himself was lying. If anything, they might have lied about owning half of the so-called treasure." "Oh, then maybe the Red Castle was the Third Castle then?" The motorrad pondered. "Why do you say that?" The traveler asked back. "Well, the Blue Castle was all worn out and beat up, right? The Golden Castle was fine since it was made with really good stones. The Blue Castle didn't fare that well, and if the Red Castle looked just as sparkly as the Golden Castle, wouldn't that make it newer as a result?" "Then it really comes down to perspective, didn't it Hermes?" "Ahhh, what a mess that was. Next time, can you pick a country with fewer problems and traditions that aren't so violent?" "Maybe I could, but that wouldn't be any fun, wouldn't it?" Turning to face the road, the traveler and the motorrad drove off into the distance. ___ In the Red Castle behind them, the laughs and cheers slowly calmed as the fires of the party dimmed to three distinct mounds with figured tied to them. Two had been burnt to their bones in the past one or two days. The last one, whom was still set aflame, could be heard screaming a deathly cry before the lights faded, signalling the end of the Harvest Festival. (End Track: Worldend_dominator) (No travelers or motorrads were harmed in the making of this riddle. Everything else, who knows. Thank you for playing!) |

| (elsewhere in an undisclosed location) Pat. Pat. Pat. Pat. Pat. Pat. The soft sounds of footsteps entered the room. It was an imagined room. A nonexistent room. A room that shouldn't have been there, yet it was opened. Within the dimly lit room, there stood a single table with three empty tea cups and a pot of black tea. They seemed untouched for a long time. A party would soon start here. (Track: As time goes by) "I had arrived late last time, but it seems I had arrived too early for this game. Or, perhaps it was at the right time. There are signs that the others have arrived, but it seems they are still preparing their sides of the board. Mine has already been completed, but it seems there are still some remnants of the aftermath unresolved." Circling around the room, the figure saw various fragments left on the floor. Memories, thoughts, and sentiments from the past and present. Tapping on one with her foot, distant voices adjoined and resonated within the silence of the room. However, its magic is still weak. Far too weak. It's rare to catch a glimpse of an isolated board in such infancy, but due to its immature state, there may not be enough here to fully understand the whole context. One approach, however, is to re-examine the conditions for victory. What is being asked of you? And, in turn, what should you then look for?" Moving around the room, she examined, picked up, and set foreign fragments next to one another as they were found. Rarity said: few questions, since i’m not really following how this works, might be missing something - we have to wait as the stories are released to hear about the other castles right? so there’s only really any info so far about blue castle and people who are making guesses are doing so randomly Mellowmancer said: btw if u guys havent played last year, red text = main candy hints and bold text = bonus candy hint "A Blue Castle that could be full of either Truths or Lies. The concept of such eludes to the power of a certain child I know, though not completely. Imagine rolling a 100-sided die onto a flat surface. A normal winning condition could be getting the single value one desires, but in this game, the condition for the board's victory is to get everything at once. As such, the structure of the board's rules reflects this function in its wording: What is the core nature of each castle: Truths or Lies? What factors play heavily into the underlying mechanics of the puzzle? What is the nature of the treasure itself? "The words are slightly different than the previous board, but the functions appear to be similar in some respects. Though, the nature of this change isn't enough to do any more than a cosmetic alteration. Though, personally speaking, the man's topics of discussion seem appropriate when dyed in red." Sora said: Think it won't be that easy? So like if we get the T/F castle but only say T or F.. maybe Shocked will just tell us "you are right" so we think it's either T or F when in truth it's T/F. xD ScarletCelestial said: FFT, FTT, FTF are the only possibilities However, there is also the possibility of the mod trolling us and castle Z (the ambiguous one) could be both T and F "It's far too early to decide absolutes, but it is not incorrect to first understand the underlying rules of the game, especially when they may not be completely evident. If you consider the Blue Castle to be full of Liars, how does this then impact the other two castles? In the same vein, if the Blue Castle were full of Truths, then how would it reconcile the change? From your method of approach, look at how you are meant to answer, then examine the means which these answers can be brought about." ScarletCelestial said: those outside of Pacific Standard Time are much less likely to be able to view the last Tea Party, due to the time it is released (For example, in my time zone it releases at 4am, while the room closes at 8am on the same day) (I would likely be asleep for the entirety of that period) As she walked over to pour herself a cup of tea, a concept of time was altered along her path. It was a single point, one of an infinite number of possibilities. But, like a miracle, it was pulled out and replaced with another. ☩??? It makes me wonder if I had affected anyone else's plans, but if they are truly the powerful Witches they boast to be, certainly such a minor setback pose much of a problem." Bahamut_Zero said: I will send my response when there are more unlocked acts. "The noisy ones will be arriving soon, so I must take my leave in a moment. I don't hold any particular allegiances to them, but I wouldn't want to encounter them too early. I will give a warning for in my state of generosity: the small red one is quite straightforward in her tactics. She will try to overwhelm you in the game, but don't get distracted by the overall presentation. The other one, however, is a bit trickier to deal with. She is fickle, and is content to make inefficient moves to extend her game. Normally when someone makes a move, they would try for the most optimal method to achieve their winning condition, but she will intentionally cut corners in order to confuse and mystify. In those moments, however, are where her weaknesses will arise." Upon finishing her tea, the figure stood up and resumed overlooking the board. "Also, don't mistake my assistance as any more than charity. I am not your ally, but if I am to oversee the Blue Castle, then I would like to not have my name tarnished by the label of Liar while I'm here, much less in the presence of the other two. Though, that itself could also be a lie, as was everything that I have said thus far." The Witch laughed wryly under her breath. "I wonder how many of you will be able to distinguish between the truths and lies. The poison which is the deadliest for Witches is boredom after all, so hopefully you won't try to kill me. You can do that much, can't you?" |

| Are we allowed to share thoughts and theories here? If so I'll edit my ideas into a spoiler. SPOILER! These are what I believe to be hints to the game. I may be wrong. If you want to figure it out yourself, don't read this. The witch and butler in the blue castle are both being very vague about all of their answers. It would seem to me that a castle full of truth tellers would have nothing to hide. They would want you to know that they tell the truth. This purposeful vague trickery seems like something liars would do to try and keep us guessing. |

| (elsewhere in an undisclosed location) It was a dimly lit room. The only warmth there was the recently brewed pot of tea on the central table, encircled by three cups and three chairs. One seemed previously used. One seemed untouched. One seemed to be held by a figure in pink and red. (Track: Black Lilliana) "Ah, the taste of freshly brewed tea compares to nothing else in this world. Its aroma, its pedigree, its lavish ability to be shared among company...but the only thing missing is the actual company!!!! Where are those two!? I thought I arrived on time, but no one is even here! If they're avoiding me, then fine, I'll host this party all by myself! Tsu~n!" Frustrated, the figure leapt out of her seat and stomped over to the board, kicking a few carefully placed game pieces on her way. "The damage has already been done by the previous party. That child sure helped you all by talking about my strategy, so I wonder how I can strike back...oh, I know!" Before her, thoughts gathered together in a cloud of dust. It was an intangible substance being brought forth in an imaginary space. By trickery or magic, voices could be heard from the past. The figure - the Witch - sneered as the cloud took its form. The Blue Witch said: I am not your ally, but if I am to oversee the Blue Castle, then I would like to not have my name tarnished by the label of Liar while I'm here, much less in the presence of the other two. Though, that itself could also be a lie, as was everything that I have said thus far. "She was quite serious about not being called a Liar. I wonder whyyyyyyyyy. Don't think too hard on it though, she's not that complicated to figure out. If she has a goal, that's all she ever thinks about. Think of her as a sniper, pinpointing a single target with all her might. If something is focused on a lot, it's probably really important. As for me, I'm more of a super artillery type, so don't think you can figure out the Red Castle's mysteries by brute force alone, hoh-hoh-hoh-hoh-hoh-oh! Now let's see....oh, here's one!" Shiro4 said: I feel like this one is going to hit all at once, finally there will be enough info to solve it but there will be too much to read... better start taking notes now With a thought materalizing in the cloud, the Witch looked over the game board again, scanning the pieces as she walked around it. "Try not to rush yourself, it's like driving straight off a cliff to catch a falling coin, only to go straight into a messy death! The key point to the primary mystery is figuring out who the truth tellers and liars are, right? I'm a pretty complicated person, so you won't be able to read me that easily! However, for the people in the castles, they have a core nature that will never change. See how the the answers come down to Truth or Lies? See how the name of the country is Truth or Lies? Try as they might, they will never break away from their fate of being born in their castles. They will always be one or the other. How sad it must be, having your life decided from the day you were born! With the secondary mystery, there are many ways to approach this. The child before me tried to hide it through her own methods. Are liars capable of telling truths? Are truth tellers capable of lying? I don't see why not, but don't confuse yourselves, remember that even she must follow the rules of the game, or else she'd be a dirty cheater, which is even worse than being a liar! Ask yourself this: what is the core structure of the story? What are the necessary components that are necessary for the mystery to occur? And, if the treasure truly exists, then in what ways does it repeat itself through the different stories? Hopefully you believe me on that one, or did you think little 'ol me would Lie about something that important?" "Saaaaaaay, did you know that honesty is one the most important qualities of Witches? After all, we want to be recognized for our actions just as much as anyone else! But, what's more important is our magic. If that is not believed, then how can the Witch herself be believed in? Lady Bernkastel knew this, but the more truthful one is, the more suspicious things seem, am I right? After all, why would someone be so nice as to give away secrets for free? Of course, I'm in the same situation, and so is Lady Beatrice. This is veeeeerrrrrrry important for all of us, did you get that? I hope you did! Hoh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh! Though, that still may not be enough. I see those of you hugging your knees, waiting for the most opportune moment to strike. Let me give you all a final gift, it's a little something about the upcoming room. I know the one in there quite well, you see. She's quite cruel, maybe just a little more than I am. But, to prove that I'm not a liar and to set a fire under your butts, let me tell you something good." "In the name of the great, pretty, smart, honest and pure Lady Lambdadelta, the Witch of Certainty..." THE GOLDEN WITCH IS A LIAR Happy Hunting candy lovers." |

| (elsewhere in an undisclosed location) It was a room that could not be found, visited only by those whom exist outside the boundaries of reality and fiction. Or, by those invited by ones as such. In the middle of the room, there stood a single tea table with three cups: two that have found their owner, and one that- "Tea? In a party I was snubbed in before I had even arrived? Was the order of things reversed while I was away, or was the time wrong from the beginning? Amusing, the hospitality of this welcome is equal to the treatment my heel would give to a roach. In response, I must refuse such generosity for the time being." (Track: Golden sneer) With a flash of golden dust, a figure appeared in the room, standing before the game board with a golden pipe in hand. "For now though, I'll play along. I'm curious to see how you treasure hunters have faired in my absense. A sufficient amount of magic has gathered in this board. The day of Hallow's Eve draws near. As such, it becomes even more easier to perform actions such as this." With an effortless swipe of her pipe, the air before the figure cut, opening a view into the past from a distant land. This was an act of something that wasn't human. Without a doubt, this was a Witch. Mellowmancer said: but what happened to act 2 endingggg i wanna know what all the screams were all aboutt "All will be revealed in due time. Haven't you ever eaten a meal, but saved your favorite side for the end? Unless you're the type that devours the entire thing like a mad beast! *cackles*" ScarletCelestial said: I've got a theory about the treasure. Why would Shocked give us three guesses about where the treasure is? When there are three castles? "Is a generous act not a generous act without a handbasket of candy in accompanyment? Though, if you asked me, the forests, rivers, and hills were mentioned in the story too, so they are within the realm of possibility, are they not? Unless the board itself is flawed, the treasure must either exist or not exist at all. Then, if it does exist, it must do so in a place that has been established during the story's duration. Though, there's still the question of if the treasure even exists. Wouldn't that be a surprise?" oi crunt said: the blue castle has a different story about the history of the country different from the one before the acts while the gold one has the exact same with some added words oh wait no IM EVEN CONFUSING MY OWN BRAIN NOW *cackles* Rarity said: anyone else trying to solve this but getting distracted by other puzzles + talking to people? "Normally, I would feed an ear lobe or two of yours to one of my servants, but I must admit that this party is a bit.........lackluster. Allow me to bestow upon you all a bit of my own good will in order to shake things up a bit." "Between the two that have come before me, both have different interpretations of the country's legend. I wonder who is correct. Also, don't you think that the Blue Witch may have had certain things to hide? Why else would the man there avoid questioning? Man of the Blue Castle said: The man, upon hearing the question, stopped walking and responded with a tilt of his head and a kind smile. Warm. Unflinching. Impenetrable. "Suspicious, wouldn't you say?" Heh. Heh heh. HAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAAHA "Now, now Beato, isn't talking behind other peoples' back bad manners?" (Track: Fake red shoes) "Certainly a Liar is allowed to scratch and crawl around, but isn't this a liiiiiiitttttttttlllllleeeee bit desparate?" The Red Witch scoffed, leaving nothing to subtlety. "Oh, reeeeeeaaaalllyyyyyyyy? Then would the honest, pure and short Lady Lambdadelta mind confirming that the Treasure is in the Red Castle????" "H-Hey! I'm not short! Wait, don't distract me! You're not getting any answers from me! Besides, your castle is made of GOLD! How co-" Hahahaha!!!*cackle*cackle* "Fake gold, which you so kindly alluded to. But, the youngster in your castle also stated that the treasure was most likely something more valuable than just gold and jewels. Or have you forgotten your own clues? Are you sure you're a Truth Teller? Are you reeeaaalllyyy suuuurreee???" The Golden Witch teased. "Geh! W-well, it doesn't rule out you either! Didn't the man in your castle answer the raised arm question improperly?" The Red Witch stammered. For a brief moment, the traveler paused, raised a right hand, then asked: ".............By the way..........What hand am I holding up?" "That is your left hand, is it not?" "Yes, and did yours confirm the existence of the Witch at the end??? By admitting that the Witch were real in red, does that not also confirm the existence of magic in the story, or would you rather be considered a Truth Teller by saying Witches and magic don't exist???" "...What kind of banquet is this?" The traveler asked, glaring at the young man. Confused, the young man stared back at the traveler. "...Witch Banquet...downstairs...the Witch has arrived..." "T-that was only because Lady Bernkastel had arrived earlier and set that up before me! The man in the Blue Castle had already confirmed the existence of Witches in this universe, so I wasn't mistaken!" As far as the Witch goes...." "......perhaps if you had specific questions, you would like to speak to her instead?" Flustered, the Red Witch stomped the ground relentlessly. "I must have gotten confused or something when she messed up, no wait, I exist so I can't also not exist! This isn't right! Bernkastel did all this! She arrived early and rigged the game, I'm su-" Pat. Pat. Pat. "Stooping as far as slandering? I hope you were just performing an act, because that's rude enough for me to call your outlandish bluff." The Blue Witch threw her hair in disgust. "Are you saying that I had made a mistake? That doesn't just invalidate the game, but that also questions my own judgements and abilities. I assure you, I am Truthful as I have not made any mistakes. Lambda, you have not made any mistakes either, for you truly have been foolish. There was no mistake in that." The Red Witch stared back, glaring with eyes that could pierce steel. Then... (Track: none) "Repeat what you just said in Bold." The Blue Witch paused. She paused for one minute. Two minutes. No, time did not exist in this realm. But there is no doubt, the Blue Witch paused. Then, with a single utterance, "Lambdadelta is foolish." (Track: Dreamendcharger) "Hoh-hoh-hoh-hoh-hoh-oh! Is that the best you got Bern!? Then by that, we are at a standstill. If that's the case, perhaps the others can be the judge and jury for whom among us are Truthful and Liars! As the Witch of Certainty, Lambadelta, I proclaim that we are not purely Liars or Truth Tellers! There is a mix between us!" "Yes, perhaps that's true, this conversation is not moving forward as I had hoped. In that case, as the Witch of Miracles, Bernkastel, despite having been lost in the war in the past, the treasure exists." "Then, as the Endless Witch, Beatrice, and in the name of the Witches here, we ask of you all," WHOM AMONG US ARE LIARS AAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA |

~The Epilogue of ~Land of Truths and Lies –Witch Reign– has been opened for viewing~ The Harvest Festival has ended, as did the magic holding this room together. The winners have been revealed - the ones who managed to make sense of the chaos. Was it a hallucination? Was it a passing dream? The records left behind of this incident tell a number of individual accounts, but perhaps only the Witches can discern the validity of this event. ~Room Locked until the next dream~ |
