| lying is seen as morally wrong to do, but everyone usually does a white lie here and there. personally i believe that people lie for their benefit like for example, cheating on ya girlf and then lying to your girlf saying that you didn't cheat, the cheating was for sexual interests of the person. another example would be lying to get out of trouble and maybe even blaming someone else, you do that so you won't be punished. but we hate liars because they usually don't benefit us or what the truth is that they are hiding will hurt us. what hurts us even more is finding out the person that we trusted did lie to us, back to the boyf cheating on a girlf, that lie will most likely break the girls heart and make her hate him for what he has done, betrayal. however, this will not stop people lying because who are we here for at the end of the day in this world? ourselves. |

Self protection. Even if you're actually protecting yourself from something you're the cause of. Some lie to avoid longer conversations. In this case I may on occasion "agree" with people on subjects I don't want to talk about, just so they stop talking. (Although I don't do it to friends, since it would screw every single bit of trust a relationship needs to exist.) People don't like when other people lie because it creates insecurity. You can't be sure how to act, when you have the wrong info about the situation. |

| People lie for a bunch of different reasons like excitement, feeling better about themselves, sparing peoples emotions, getting out of a tricky situation etc. And then you have people lying just to wreak havoc. Not defending liars and personally hate being lied to as well, but I don't think modern society would survive if everyone suddenly started telling the truth :p |

Why do we do it ? There are many reasons we lie, be it either to get what we want, to hide painful truth from someone, to make ourselves look better. Many, many reasons. What do we get out of it ? Possibly material values, emotional ease. someone's attention. Sometimes nothing, and we still lie. Why do people hate liars ? If someone lied in their life and still hate liars, then he/she is a hipocrite, but that happens. Or maybe he/she hates that he/she lied in the past and puts that hatred into others too ? Or his/her trust was betrayed in the past and now he/she hates lies, as he/she imagines that past memories ? Why do we hate ourselves ? Hmm, that's difficult. Anyone that hates themselves has a different reason for it, probably. Some people hate themselves for what they've done in the past, for what they didn't do, for what they could do. Some for their thoughts. Some for their appearance. And that's just a few reasons. What's real ? I don't know myself the answer to that question sometimes. What's real is what feels real to you. Why do you ask these questions though ? What happened ? |

When I lie, it's definitely because something motivates me to tell that lie i.e. I have something to gain for it. Admittedly I don't lie often. However, when it comes to pathological liars, those people just lie out of habit and do it so well because they themselves believe in their own lies. |
