I searched for a topic like this but couldn't find one...
Anyway, what anime have you seen that had boring/bad first few episodes, but ending up being an anime that you really enjoyed?

For me, they are:

Code Geass
Blassreiter
Elfen Lied
Furi Kuri
Lucky Star

I guess Ill go with Cowboy Bebop. Dont kill me Bebop mega fans, but I really didn't like the first couple eps, they were a little boring to me. But overall I still love the series.

Clannad didn't make such an impression the first time I wached the two first eps, then I came back on it some months later and I got addicted to the whole story.

Berserk - first ep was hard to get pass but the rest was amazing (Until I read the manga)
Gungrave had the same kind of crappy first ep but the rest was very good.
Lucky Star was boring as hell the first 4-5 eps than it got pretty funny.

I actually think the opposite. I thought the first half of the series was fantastic, then it got a little less entertaining until the last two episodes which were great.

Yep. Cool as it was, Gungrave's first episode is totally not what the anime is really about. The mood switches completely for like 20 episodes after lol.

Rurouni Kenshin's first few episode were pretty bad too (imagine samurai sword battles using still image. Can't? neither can I...). It gets better at I think episode 5(?) which is when Jinei is introduced...and then it drops into a boring arc again, and then REALLY picks up into epicness when Saitou is introduced (like holy crap, one of my favorite sword fights in all of anime :o)

I can kind of understand it. Knowing it was a fantasy/adventure kind of series, I kept wanting the first episode to dive right into it rather than watch Hitomi crush on Amano for the first 15 minutes or so.

For me, I'd have to go with Gintama, which actually took me several episodes to really appreciate it. I'd also have to say D.Gray-man, which had a decent first episode but didn't convince me it was good until the second episode.

Simoun was the closest I've ever been to dropping an anime. Seriously, the first few episodes are dreadfully bad. But, the show as a whole is one of the best I've seen easily. Texhnolyze started off very slowly as well, and also turned out to be quite good. Nowadays, I tend to expect more out of series I don't enjoy at first. Weird.

The first episode of Haruhi gave me a bad impression on the show. I dropped it but later picked it back up.

Hetalia too, I suppose. Considering all the hype it got.

Start bad but turn out good for me

- Ghost hound : really boring at first because plot setting, but gradually better.
- Higurashi no naku koroni : This anime tricked me...
- Kara no Kyokai : I don't quite enjoy Kara Movie1 because the pace was slow, and plot was not interesting enough.
- Kemonozume : The art was unbearable. However, love it at the end.
- Kimi ga nozomi Eien : Pacing was super slow and cliche
- Noein : start bad-normal, but turn out good
- Zegapain : start bad, make me feel pain like watching some random super robot anime, which contain no interesting plot. It proved to me in Episode 3 that I was wrong.
- Top wo nerae! : the first 2 episodes was OK but far from good.
- Turn A Gundam : slow and character design were not attractive, but in the end, I love all main protagonists so much.

Yeah, definitely. It had the biggest turnaround ever. First few episodes were horrible but the series became so epic. I almost dropped it, yet it ended up being one of my tens.

Lucky Star and K-ON. I only continued watching both of them because I loved the opening. Also, School Days had a very average and completely non-indicative first episode.

Edit: And Ghost Hound.

If anything, the first 10 minutes of EL were the only segment of the show that wasn't mediocre.

Anywho, Baccano!'s first episode was somewhat bad because it was confusing as fuck.

I agree. I put it on hold for more than a month after the first ep before coming back to it.

Also Berserk.
Welcome to the NHK (actually it only hooked me after about 4 eps I think)
Eureka Seven's first episode wasn't that great.
And I would say FMA didn't have a strong first episode, though I'd have to include probably the first 10 or so episodes, since I felt it only picked up after this.

It didn't help that the two main characters of that episode (Carol and the other dude) had absolutely nothing to do with the plot >.>

Welcome to the NHK - didn't appeal to me at all so I dropped it after the the second episode but after a friend of mine nagged and said how good it was I decided to watch the whole thing, and I must say it did get better.

Gungrave - First episode is so strange and no consistent the first time you watch it, luckily things get much better on the second episode, where the series "really" start.

Same reason I hated lucky star but I couldnt bear it any longer so I dropped it immediately. Was that the wrong thing to do? I'll only be able to watch it if there's a massive reference/pun/parody-hurricane in it.

Cromartie episode 2 is referring to a japanese musician and they keep humming his song the entire episode. It wasn't that entertaining. First episode was kinda cool though.

I didn't really like the first episode of Furi Kuri, but I got used to its weirdness and eventually enjoyed the series.

With Elfen Lied, I really don't know what to say. For example,
I actually dropped the series once. I picked it up again because I was bored, and after the 5th episode or so, I really started enjoying it and it became one of my favorites.

Shut up. Those eps were awesome.

I'd say the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is the god of this.

Ef ~ a Tale of Memories because is just looks like a run-of-the-mill romance anime.

Maria-sama ga Miteru since you really need to sit back and get to know the characters. Also a lot is thrown at you at the start (names, terms, etc.).

Gungrave. If you watch this, skip the first episode. It spoils quite a few things later (how ass retarded is that?).
