I looked at this spring and summer's new anime list and can't find a single one I want to watch. And I don't know what's up with 12 year old looking characters trying to do adult things. I miss the days of Berserk, basilisk, claymore, serei no moribito, studio ghibli films, etc where stories had good plots and action scenes and it was actually not so predictable. If anyone has an anime recommendation that is more for mature audiences (not hentai or ecchi), I would appreciate it. Mod Edit: Modified title for clarity and/or easier searching. |

I mean just throwing it out there your examples are like 30 years worth of your top picks vs the 2 most recent seasons. If you do that every season of course they'll seem bad by comparison. |

1/10 shit bait try harder 1.using a 2007 anime in the same sentence as a 1990s one 2.not so predictable yet list the predictable ones |
It's good that Slop leveling won the CR awards with such a power gap, Gaijin Weebs don't deserve good anime. Not after what they did to frieren, kusuriya, and many others |

Setting the shitty thread title aside, maybe you'd like ACCA or Onihei from earlier this year. If it doesn't have to be recent there's always Cowboy Bebop or Monster which aren't on your list and should appeal to you. Although Monster doesn't have that much action, it's more of a psychological thriller, but a great one. There's also Black Lagoon, Wolf's Rain, Darker Than Black and Baccano! in terms of shows I'd consider classics that fit your profile of darker, action-based shows with adult characters. Also Basilisk is gonna get a sequel: https://myanimelist.net/news/51581180 |
I probably regret this post by now. |

Wait didn't someone already make a thread talking about this?... Umm, OK but to answer you, not everyone thinks new shows are bad, there's been a few good shows released this season (Made in Abyss, Ballroom e Youkoso) but I guess due to the large amount of series released per season that will lead to some "sub-par" Anime, it happens all the time tbh |

Its obvious...even for an anime fan you can't deny that 85% of anime is complete trash. You allways get those ecchi 12 years old girls everywhere, you allways get copies of a good show...you just have to find that one masterpiece. |

BnHA 2, Bahamut 2, AoT 2 are all great action shows to me. |
But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion. http://www.classzone.com/books/lnetwork_gr08/page_build.cfm?content=analyz_media&ch=30 It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person. If elitist don't exist, casual pleb and shit taste also don't exist. |

The most logical answer I can think of is that, there are no more risk taking anime. I'll use fate/zero as an example. Fate/zero had no 'moe'/fan service content in there (excluding Gilgamesh naked scene) which is a big risk, because Japan really likes/ is more focus on the moe and video game anime content and gets more money that way (I'm looking at you, love live and sao). where we, the US, judge everything on the plot, characters, story, ect. However type-moon did realize where the money was and created a moe series called fate/ kaleid liner prisma Illay or as the fate community calls it fate/loil. Yeah, to be in short the reason why there is no good anime any more is b/c there are no risk taking anime, which really sucks, but hey money is everything now days, and an anime about moe girls in high school/ magic world/ a working place, and other scenarios that you can imaging with cute moe girls, and with fan service, can definitely make us lots of money and that is all they care about. |

@light-at-dawn fate/zero, a risk??!! It is a part of a rather popular franchise with mupltiple LNs, mangas, VNs and Anime, it is anything BUT a risky series. Fate kaleid is just a spin off manga, and btw, better than anything else fate related. Not much of a proof to anything. |

@light-at-dawn I agree with Darek. If anything Fate/Kaleid was a risk compared to Fate/Zero. Because believe it or not it isn't the kind of show to sell amazingly well. @Darek I agree the guy has no idea what he is talking about lol |

If you truly think that way, then here's my advice: try as best as you can to separate yourself from your memories of the past and watch with a new and open mind, that's the key to enjoying not just anime, but life itself! Anyway, if you like "older style" anime, then maybe check out some Lupin III. The most recent main series from 2015 proves that in its 50 years it really hasn't changed too much at all. If you like it, then you can look forward to a new series that's in production now! In the meantime, you can watch the hundreds of hours of other Lupin III shows and movies! Give it a try! |

However if you think fate/ kaleid is the best fate series than that is obviously your opinion and I won’t bash you on it, but it wasn’t for me personally. Now back to the main topic, like I said the main reason why I think that fate/zero is a risk taking anime is because it had no moe/ fanservice to it and remember I am only judging this on fate/zero NOT the entire fate franchise. As we all know Japan is REALLY big on moe/ fanservice anime, that how love live is super popular in japan; so with fate/zero with no moe or fan service, it is a risk, In japan that is. Yes us westerns do not think that fate/ zero is a risk b/c we not so focus on the moe/ fanservice as much as Japan does. So to sum up everything, (my opinion) fate/zero is a risk in Japan but not in the unites states b/c of the moe content. P.s is the fate/kaleid, the manga better than the anime? I think your question could be rephrased as "Why don't I like new anime?" and the answer is that it just doesn't fit your taste. If this is the case then you don't need to watch it, it obviously isn't for you. There are plenty of older anime that fit your taste better so go watch them. People like new anime and the older style of anime has already been done enough that we don't need more of it. |

So to sum up everything, (my opinion) fate/zero is a risk in Japan but not in the unites states b/c of the moe content. You kind of missed their point. The point was if you're using a series with an insanely popular source material as a example of "risk" just because the anime doesn't have the level of explicit sex scenes the original visual novel had, or because it isn't moe or moe enough, its a pretty poor basis to measure risk. While also pointing out that fate/kaleid would be a notable standout of the series thus implying it is the more risky entry to the franchise. (Also because your original post brings up 2 entries to the franchise to compare you can't really say bringing up the source material or other entries is unfair) Especially because it heavily implies that those are the only 2 factors used to measure risk in relation to Japan which is just reinforcing the easily debunked stereotype that anime is primarily cute girls and fan service. To use another example one generally wouldn't say Attack on Titan or One Punch Man or Death Note have a lot of fan service or moe elements but that doesn't mean they were risky series to adapt in Japan. |

For me Springs is alright cause they have Boku no Hero 2nd ses and AOT 2nd ses. There also this anime from Spring called Tsuki ga Kirei which is really good and prob the best romacne anime I've ever seen. Try it I think you'll like it For this summer yea.... its like nothing, I don't know I already dropped 2 anime this season and prob the best anime for me right now is Classroom of the Elite. People also saying this anime Mahoutsukai no Yome is really good but idk where to watch that. Yea summer 2017 prob the worst and just bunch of romance school anime. But I'm waiting for next season tho! its all sequel lol. |

'claymore, serei no moribito' Claymore became terribly predictable in it's final six episodes, Serei no moribito only avoids being predictable by sprinting off after side-quests and Slice-of-Life~ish episodes. |

I can't believe nobody's mentioned made in abyss. The main characters are literally twelve year olds, but that doesn't mean it can't be mature, and lit's the best show of the season. Go watch the first episode and then come back and thank me. Also, you're acting as if back in the nineties and 2000's that there were tons of amazing shows every single season, which there weren't outside of a few great years. Having a single 9 or 10 for any season is a blessing, not a given. Blah blah rose-tinted glasses or whatever. |
