Very satisfying ending. I just wish people would stop comparing this to S1. They're animated by different studios so, its to be expected that it wouldn't be the same. I'm quite open minded and glad that another studio picked this series up rather than have Madhouse leaving it behind and unfinished because they were too busy. I was okay with what is new in this season besides the low budget fight scenes at the early episodes but the last few episodes was enough to make me very satisfied.

Just finished rewatching, forgot how much I prefered Franco/Franca along with Pino over the cyborgs and their whole agency (with the exception of Triela). Basically mindless monsters killing who their handlers tell them to. The "terrorists" had personalities and understandable reasons for what they were doing, especially as the anime basically out tells us that the government is corrupt.

So basically the wrong side won here. I suppose we can have this an "open ending" though as Franco/Franca's bodies were never found in the river so maybe... sad though either way.

Just when Triela shows signs of humanity instead of being brainwashed the series ends. This whole series it has shown the Welfare agency as the bad guys, but not one of the girls was questioning it; feels like it was mostly setup for when they start to.

I just rewatched Gunslinger Girl. One of my unpopular opinions is that I actually liked the second season/Il Teatrino more than the first season. I liked how the second season showed the perspective of the "terrorists" and why they were doing what they did instead of just showing the government forces. It also felt a bit more action packed than the first season and I liked the opening and ending songs for the second season more. Gunslinger Girl season 2 is actually one of my favorite shows for these reasons.

I am gonna stick my neck out and admit that storywise, I found the second season far more compelling than the first. Especially as they tied in the first seasons enemy from being just the agencies bone to pick to be a nation wide crisis that the agency was directly responsible for quelling. Instead of enemy 1, enemy 2, every arc was related to another and added beautifully to the overall plot.

The first season was good in setting up the world and a bit of exploration of the agency, however it didn't resonant nearly enough with me as it was broken up into standalone story arcs focussing on their relationship on their handlers. The second season primarily zoomed in on Triela and bits of Claes, Rico and Henrietta. That was good, especially the backstory behind Triela and Giuse. It also goes a long way in explaining why each handler-cyborg relationships can be so different. It is easier to engage with the characters, in the process, and the audiences is able to uniquely condemn and condone many aspects of the handlers. In Jean and Giuse's case, I as the viewer, questioned whether their desire for revenge and using the agency as that vehicle was in the best interests of Italy.

The great thing about the second season was the emphasis on the padania. In the first season, Franca and Caterine were setup in a few episodes as the 1D baddies who were good at bombs. The second season thoroughly brought these cardboard cutouts to life by fleshing out their characters and in the process, it goes a long way in portraying the idealogues that drove these guys to resort to terrorism

Caterina in paticular is a very interesting character. A gentle conflicted terrorist at heart, willing to put her life in danger for Pino, however, seemed to show little remorse even contempt when faced with a victim of her bombs which killed the victim's child and left the victim's wife sterile.

A few comments I noticed is the utter disappointment with how shallow and petty the cyborgs were in the second season... Well this is pretty standard complaints in mal actually, to each their own, I guess everyone appreciates Superman characters over fundamentally flawed ones...

I guess I was the only one that was able to stomach it, they were conditioned, over and over again they emphasised that and the difference the conditioning had on the cyborgs, whether it was done emotionlessly like Jean's or using love as a natural motivation with Giuse and Victor. And in the process I was conditioned to believe that. There is nothing illogical about it, and I don't understand how a central theme of this show simply flies over people's heads. If you do not like the characters, complain about that, but the complaints that the anime is at fault for being faithful to this questionable conditioning dilemma (utilitarianism vs kantianism) is beyond my understanding. That was the whole point, the agency is the bad guy, especially for a lot of people that was how they were viewed, the governments guard dogs.

However, I found the animation poor and fight scenes poor. So I think I will rate it the same as the first season. Overall a solid 7.

You know a series is written well when you feel bad for the "Villains"... I didn't really "hate" anyone on the Section 2 side because they were all broken in their own ways and have built up emotional walls. The girls of course can't help the way they are because of their conditioning and the varying treatment seen from their different handlers. All the girls are scary loyal but differ, Triela is Prideful, Henrietta is Kind, and Rico is Carefree. As for the "villains", they are essentially the same kinds of killers as Section 2, just with different ideals and morals.

Although I liked some of the "villains" I still can't condone some things they did, but the same goes for the Government. Overall the entire situation seems like a typical Anime "grey" world, where the Good and the Bad guys are capable of Terror, Joy, Murder, Justice, and Kindness.

Pinocchio was my favorite character this series though, it was cool to see him actually grow and very sad to see him die... He was the same as the cyborgs in many ways, but surpassed them in my opinion. Unlike them he didn't get superhuman augments to cheat in battle, he didn't get high tech gear, or government backing... Although raised to be a monster, Pinocchio was just a Normal human being, yet he was able to beat Triela and hold off Henrietta with just KNIFES, that is an amazing feat for a mere human

He has trauma like the girl he killed, but he can still feel devotion and love for his "uncle", and it wasn't forced on him through brainwashing either. He even started to move on at the vineyard, becoming friends with Franco and Franca and helping tend the fields. At the end of the day it was his love that got him killed... but, although Pinocchio may have spent most of his life as a "puppet", it was through his self-sacrifice that he became a human. The use of his "getaway car" key to wound Triela was symbolic of his sacrifice, his loss of escape.

Christiano, Franco, and Franca all got away, and considering their bodies weren't found, that is basically an anime confirmation of "Hey guys, they made it". I wish Pino didn't have to die, but at least he died for the one he loved... and in the Gunslinger Girl Universe that is probably the best death you could hope for.

Rest in Peace Pinocchio, you became a real boy in the end. A lot more real than the "protagonists" of the whole show.

I don't think strength is the ability to shoot little girls without hesitation. I mean, granted, these are cyborgs, but still. Also, I think Triela leapt up through the second story window from the ground after getting tossed out.

I think I liked the Franco, Franca, and Pinocchio group more than the Social Welfare Agency. They're terrorists, but I liked their characters well enough, and I found the challenge of them going up against super soldiers to be more interesting. I kind of wish the cyborgs and their handlers were characterized better though. They've definitely went through extremely harsh experiences, but for whatever the reason, I didn't find them particularly interesting.

Pino, Franco and Franca were great characters and I thought the story was actually quite well done.
I'm glad it didn't delve into the whole relationship stuff that the first episode made me believe (with Henrietta sniffing Giuse's shirt and blushing etc)

Focused a lot less on the girls but more on the terrorist group, despite that it wasn't bad.

7/10, not as interesting as the first season though.

Alright, so this final episode is simply excellent. Triella won her conflict against Pino, and Pino himself has turned into a human, though he's then killed by Triella afterwards. Their fight could've been much more but this is cool enough.
Christiano, Franco and Franca might've survived the crash but well... That's what I guess...

Overall, I was actually disappointed with the second season of this series. It just got too much slow paced flashbacks and plain side characters. Not that I do not like slow paced shows, but it's just not my taste I guess.

I didn't drop the show and continue watching (despite taking me 9 months to do so for this 13 eps season) in hope that it gets better on and YES IT DOES actually! But this still won't fully make up for all the negative opinions I have for this season.

Nooo, not Pinocchio :(
His life was too short. I was hoping he's alive till the end, just a little bit longer

I guess Franca, Franco, and Christiano aren't dead yet

That's just sad.. I thought when it all ended I'll be satisfied
Instead I feel sad, especially for Pinocchio's last moment :(

I like the 2nd season, instead of having random "monster" of the week.. they have an actual story progression
But at same time the designs (especially color palettes) and seiyuu are different
They're not really ruining anything though, everything else still the same
I get the feeling people in here are just complaining about a very tiny small detail. Compared to whole thing it's no big deal, still good

A good finale, probably the best episode of the season.

Overall Season 2 is better than the original, at least in terms of story because this time the show has an ongoing plot. But honestly it still wasn't that interesting and I still had problems with the premise for this show.

I just couldn't get into it, at no point was I that desperate to watch the next episode of either season except for the will to make it to the end pushing me through. More sensible people would have dropped it but I try not to do that if I can help it. Especially for a series that I don't hate it's more that I just have a complete indifference to the show. It's not for me, I can appreciate how others might and have enjoyed it but I just never got there.

Artland's art in this season is certainly a cut below the very nice designs of MADHOUSE. I assume it was done on a much smaller budget because 5 years later you would hope for abit better than this. I thought Artland's take was fine but you can't deny it's a step down from the original.

Opening was cool though nowhere near as good as the original. I give this season a 6/10 just like the original, it has a better story but it's not that interesting.

Well I guess I will go and watch the OVA episodes and get this damn series done with.

Very very good show.
Though, the finale left me sad as I was on the “wrong” side. Poor Pinocchio, Franca and Franco.

Last one! Except not really, but also sorta kinda.

My opinion of this show didn't change one moment from the second I saw episode one until now. And, I tried everything I could to rationalize giving it a higher score, but I just didn't enjoy this season at all. I just never could get invested, and I could care less about Pinocchio, Franca, and Franco. This felt more like a side story than a direct continuation of the original.

Triela vs Pino was a good fight. I have my gripes on this season, but one major positive thing in my opinion is having an overarching plot compared to the more episodical style from s1.

Triela's revenge is sweet, everything led to this moment.
While nowhere near as Good as Season 1, at least it's better than having no more Gunslinger Girl.
Wish they had not made so many changes to most things.
It made me read the Manga to see what's next.

When I started the second season I feared for the worst, but overall it was not that bad.
While I consider it a downgrade when it comes to the girls stories, the baddies made up for it somehow.
So 7/10 for me.
