Anime Music Videos started on Youtube and mostly died there
due to copyright strikes.

Then a new hope arrived in a format of 6 second videos
Yes, i'm talking about "Vine", more specifically #amv

But our hope appeared only to disappear January 17, 2017.

My question is, now that the platform we know is coming to a close
"Where is the AMV community going?"

***Irrelevant rambling below***

Yes, at least 9/10 AMVs were abominations featuring cringe worthy or edgy music made by children or self proclaimed otakus that only watch shonen anime...
BUT
Every now and then someone that actually knew how to use video editing software (like me) would create a series of clips followed by a song and or audio that would synchronize with the video or match the tone of what was happening in those scenes.

I believe vines 6 second format was perfect. You could put the best part of a song and the best frames from an anime, cut, rearrange maybe do some overlays and it would create something new and beautiful (hopefully).

But it looks like this is going away now and the only alternative is "Coub" which comes nowhere near vines 50 million plus user popularity and lacks any form of messaging or commenting. Sometimes I feel like changing majors so I can develop an AMV app myself.

Mod Edit: Removed line to an external site.

The AMV community hasn't gone anywhere?

The quality of AMV's today are better than they've ever been. But that's not to say I still don't enjoy watching AMV's made 9-10 years ago. You can still find them on Youtube buried beneath the clutter if you know where to look.

There's a shit ton of AMV's made every day. I'll link you to some of my personal favorites:

Yeah, I agree with the others, it's not gonna die anytime soon.
Copyright was always a issue, but it didn't stop people a decade ago either, back when I started editing.
I also think most people do it for the fun of editing itself, rather than just showing off their skills.

Also, here's one I did like 4 years back (─‿‿─)

Subbed. I love your aesthetic.

I'm always seeing AMV's on YouTube, but I rarely watched any of them, the last one I've seen was for Sister Princess! The Yui Horie sung theme song is quite good actually.
There might not be a whole lot of AMV makers left though, I guess I have to just search for some on YouTube and check that out.

I used to make AMVs on Youtube (though admittedly not the best),, but when over half of the ones I made got deleted for copyright strikes and I was threatened with my account being closed, I quit making them.

Honestly, I thought that died out a long time ago. But not necessarily for copyright reasons.. I mean, I think my community of editors a couple years ago just kind of "grew up." Life goes on, you know? And this is especially true when not that many AMVs get a lot of views like they did back then. Then again, I wouldn't know much considering I quit editing a while back. It was fun, but I just didn't wanna do it anymore. I was one of those bad AMV makers xD I knew I was shit.

I feel like the AMV community is DEFINITELY smaller.
On your first video, that person isn't even active anymore.
On your second video, that person's base of viewers isn't high.
And your third video, it's just a community channel - the people that make them don't actually have those subscribers and views as the community channel.

Yeah you guys are right; My conclusion was a bit premature.
So far coub is working out for me. I'm too much of a perfectionist to ever make the transition to minute long youtube edits, I'd end up spending days just for one upload.

To avoid copyright takedowns they would use more video editing to avoid auto detection and use remixed or less known or even original songs.

There's still plenty of active AMV channels on youtube, and a lot of them manage to get around the copyright issues somehow. But youtube has pretty much ruined most of it's content since you can't post anything now without fear of a copyright strike. It's really ridiculous now, but a lot of people still try and get around it.

Vine always seemed like a bit of a pointless thing to me. There's not much you can do with a video if it's only 6 seconds long.

There was a site I heard of a while ago called AMVs.org or something to that effect. Not sure if that still exists.
