I couldn't wait for the blu-ray and i will certainly buy it in 6-9 months when it comes out. Really a brilliantly and touching movie.I got tears for some parts of the movie.I think the ending suited it the best and we can have our own ending whatever we like. |

Eh people are overrating this show so hard. The plot was lackluster and the romance felt a little out of nowhere. Not a bad show but def not deserving first place . |

The romance sort of went from little to none suddenly to very strong in like an instant. Plot was kind of meh and I saw it coming before the shock hit during the middle of the movie. Graphic was excellent. 7.7/10. |

This movie was amazing! I've seen a similar concept of switching bodies in an anime before, but this is the first time I've seen it like this. The art was really stunning too. Definitely re-watching this once the 1080p version comes out. |

I thought this film was awesome. Very emotional...especially the last like 30 minutes. Had my heart going up and down. I am glad they stopped and talked to each other. I kept thinking the film was going to end sadly. The only thing I didn't really like is that we didn't get much background on the main characters. We were thrown into their lives and drawn to the attachment and affection they developed to each other. |

at last! a happy ending from makoto! my satisfaction stems from the accumulated bitter feelings from his previous works and even in the latter parts of this one i was still doubtful that they will meet. and even when they did they just walked past each other, good thing taki didnt back down and called for mitsuha. makoto sure played us there. well played you oni. :) definitely the best makoto film ive ever watched. |
why am i so well drawn into time travel stories? do i really have that many regrets? |

This is probably the first time that I didn't dislike an ending to Makoto Shinkai's films haha but overall a fantastic movie. 10/10 Your Name is definitely Shinkai's best work so far. Great job Makoto Shinkai! :) |

Dude Makoto was trying to troll us in the end into thinking it'll be the usual ending. The theme of finding the other half was integrated wonderfully. I'll probably forever understand the meaning of "musubi". |

Its like I wonder if people watch the movie. What do they mean by open ending? It was nowhere close to that! Everything in the movie pointed towards a conclusion where they will end together after the events of the story. |

HAPPY. it is open ended like his previous works but this one is different. this gives the characters a chance to start a new relationship, they still have the feeling of liking to know each other unlike his other works which of course are also open ended but the characters ending up together are highly unlikely |

Just watched it on KA. I'm usually a patient person and don't mind waiting for months for Blu-Ray but the ratings here kept rising and I couldn't take it anymore lol. It was at 9.26 Friday night, when I woke up Saturday, it's at 9.35! So naturally HUUUGE EXPECTATIONS. I wasn't disappointed in anyway. I LOVED IT A LOT. But critically speaking, I think it's... overrated? Now this is my first Makoto Shinkai film, and my... what, 3rd anime film? Anime series films excluded. So yeah, I'm not an expert or anything but I felt it was somewhat lacking. It's definitely enjoyable, and execution was amazing but character-wise, there's not much depth. Both MCs were in the other's body 80% of the time and their personalities weren't explored much so I couldn't really relate to them. Taki's feelings for Mitsuha was also not convincing. I mean, why did he love her? He didn't know her at all. When they switched bodies they didn't spend with each other so his "I love you" didn't have much impact because 0 interaction. But I guess it's one of the cases wherein you just can't explain it lol. And as for the plot, body-switching has been done before but as I said, great execution. Loved that plot twist. I thought it was only going to be the plain body-switching stuffs. There were questions on the how's or the why's, but this film didn't seem like it's the kind that would answer that, so I just left it as it was. Art and music were amazing. Overall, it's an 8/10 for me. I just couldn't give it a 10 because in the end, it didn't leave much of a mark in me. Gave me the feels tho! Still, I absolutely loved it and would watch again. In cinemas, hopefully, because I would willingly give it my money but anime films aren't usually shown here :/ |

It's a Shinto concept that Makoto Shinkai discussed a bit as one of the core themes in the Q&A after the film at AX. |

What I can't help but imagine is what the ratings would have been if the end turned out worse (really sad). The reason why I say worse is because the MC's are partially erased from each others memories which is a sad thing. Partially because they forget eveything and yet kind of have a feeling they have met before... Impossible, clear plot hole. I thoroughly believe the author was persuaded to have a not so sad ending in comparison to his other work. Definitely a lot of plot holes, but the films seems more on the 'feels' side than the mystery/supernatural, so despite my questions like, why did they suddenly just start switching bodies, or why not around the same time and etc, I didn't mind it. Also, them forgetting was clearly a plot... device or whatever that guaranteed more emotional impact for when they finally met again. Like I said, this is my first Shinkai film and even its 'happy' ending was not enough for me (because I at least wanna see them interact more!) but damn if the others had a much sadder ending, I don't know if I'll be able to handle watching them lol. And yes! Visuals is A++++. The scenes in Itomori were beautiful. Esp atop those mountains. I can't wait to see it in HD! |

Rofl "on the feels side" quote of the year XD Early on I assumed the switching bodies are due to the comet approaching but of course we find out it is because of the mystical time traveling/body switching god that likes rice with saliva :D Byousoku 5 Centimeter is visually stunning like Byousoku 5 Centimeter, but the difference is that it is real in it's approach to understanding distance and time. Almost every scene makes a great wallpaper. You should totally watch it! Lol sorry I don't know how to phrase it XD And yes, though it's honestly kinda confusing at first. I had to rewatch those parts related to the saliva god to better understand it because it's kinda vague in the movie... or I'm just really slow OTL Yeah, exactly. It's probably some sort of attachment, but a scenario came into my mind, what if Mitsuha fell for one of Taki's guy friends instead because s/he spent more time with them than the actual Taki lol. I'll check 5CM/Sec out but probably not anytime soon! I've had it bookmarked but... I guess I'm just not into sad stories a lot, lol. |

Japan on the other hand, is still keeping it in theaters for a few weeks. Then comes 3-6 months of waiting to be on Blu-Ray/DVD. (Or online Digital Stores like iTunes, Google Play etc) Though, it's quite a hot movie to be seen right now. Most of the merchandise is getting sold out and restocked again. |

Finished watching it yesterday. The feel is real for this one. Still thinking about it today. Only regretted not waiting until the high resolution version is out. Many of the scenes would look great on high res. A quick question: (Spoiler Alert!!!) So i am guessing in the last scene mitsuha remembered everything? from the fact that she cried when taki call out to her ? (like how she remembered there is a guy who wrote on her hand, asked her to evecuate the town, and went through all the effort just to save her) just that she could not remember the name and face ? I am guessing taki is the only one who forgot about everything. The post anime syndrome is real for this one. |

No, Mitsuha, like him, only remembers the feeling that lingers when seeing that person, that and an awful lot of broken memories that pile up to vaguely point out to that certain someone. |

Hahaha we are calling it the Saliva God now? XD Apparently that saliva thing was an old cultural thing in real life. It had to be made using the saliva of virgins (that's what the article I found says). lol That's more believable since Taki's friends did buy her cake and interact more. It would have been funny if both Taki and Mitsuka had a toilet scene where they had no clue what to do. 5CM/Sec is sad depending on your perspective. I honestly had no idea. That's probably I didn't appreciate it as much as I should. Will rewatch it for sure and see if my score changes after I read a bit on this saliva god XD Lol if this was a typical shoujo that's likely to happen and then you have your cliché love-triangle with Mitsuha in Taki's body + the friend. That would be kinda funny because yaoi lol sorry I'm just throwing in stuffs. |

Leuna-chan said: Why Episode 1? Is there a sequel for this movie? No, it means it is not divided in more episodes, but it's just a normal movie you could watch at the cinema. |

I pity the guys saying this was unlike any other Shinkai movie. Some concerning blindness going on there. Too many (negative) things to point out from the movie, it really outpaced me in that sense, resulting in quite of a headhache by the end of it. Just too much cheaply emotional, manipulative garbage. It is somewhat more entertaining than your average Shinkai title, right, but at the same time the amount of questionable stuff on screen just exponentially increased. Same goes for the number of conveniences it takes to build up until the twist. You're shifting bodies with a girl, and yet you never ask yourself where does she live. You can either remember every single detail from the scenery or simply forget everything. And the list goes on. It seems like once you build a supernatural setting people will stop caring about the bigger picture making any sense. And that saddens me. I can perceive why people loves this, nonetheless. The appeal of the emotional ride, the hero trying to rescue the girl from a disastrous fate as seen recently in way too many shows (as original and inspiring time travel is lately being represented). Same goes for the resolution of the problem, obviously. If your suspension of disbelief remains intact after that, congratulations. Also, what's wrong with those music sequences even recycling images from scenes we just watched. Unbelievably cheesy and off-putting, really. |

why didn't they notice the date difference when they are communicating using their phone? i don't understand why they skipped the parts when they are messing with each other's life. it can be used to build up relationship between the two. well atleast it was enjoyable 7/10 |
