| firstly, let me rephrase what i said. the manga wasn't terrible. it was just terrible in comparison & tonaly moving in a direction i didn't agree with. @Ston3_FreeN7 - according to my manga updates: chapter 297. but how have their only been 50 chapters since then? i dropped that manga years ago. |

I'm still reading the manga but I agree with you about the tonal shift, the generic comedic faces feel so out of place. It's actually a pet peeve of mine when it pops up in mangas with a serious tone, Vagabond is guilty of this. |

| You know complaining about the shift towards fantasy is out of nowhere is weird because a) The Black Swordsman arc starts in that direction b) all the weird creatures and the like are a result of Griffith joining the Godhand, things got all fucked up. That's the point. It's jarring to the characters when they first experience it too and c) Puck, an Elf, was in the first arc too. Not sure who you mean by pixie but if you mean Rosine she actually had a part in the GA arc. Also, it's weird to me that people are so surprised about magic, you guys really didn't think there would be something to counteract evil? If anything that only adds on to the lore of the world. It's interesting. |

| To be honest I have no problem with the evolution of Berserk. Looking at the whole of it, only the black swordsman arc was fcked up beyond all reason in terms of mood. I absolutely love the Fantasia arc, and its clear that the horror hasn't disappeared its just under control by Griffith (just look at the collosseum in Falconia for evidence). I am certain Miura is setting the story up for some major mindfck, gigantic battle involving carnage. Griffith the White Angel who built his utopia, will fall, no doubt about it. Its a classic anti-hero fall to hell story. Oh and I am absolutely not sure that Guts will always be the good guy in this story. Miura could turn it all around. I feel something will happen with Casca, with Skullknight, etc...And all will turn to hell. Its also very possible that everything we think about who the characters are (Guts, SkullKnight, Zodd, God Hands, etc) is anything we expect it to be. The Nietzsche quote represents this manga and it says it all: "He who fights with monsters should be careful lest he thereby become a monster. And if thou gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will also gaze into thee." |

And the Conviction arc didn't even have any loli witches, that comes later. It was the arc with the Holy iron chain knights & the Inquisitor Mozgus. The Conviction arc with the Lost Children & Black swordsman arc (the first one) is outstanding dark fantasy and as great as the Golden Age arc which was imho a bit dragged out. |

Other mangas can be dark, gore filled and funny without resorting to generic comedic faces or rehashed humour, Koroshiya 1 is a great example of this. Not to mention Guts's burgeoning loli harem. All these things have made the series less enjoyable to me. it could have been a 10 but right now, for me it's sitting at a 6-7. @NobodyKnow  |

Personally I'm happy that the entire manga wasn't like the Black Swordsman arc. I like a bit of humour to relieve the tension. I always saw Puck/Isidro as comic relief characters to begin with. I do sincerely believe the dark part of the story is still there, it's just that the entire story has gone a little bit more into the fantasy part rather than only dark fantasy/horror. I also think that the Black Swordsman arc is not representative of Berserk as a whole. Black Swordsman + Eclipse were really written (I think) when Miura was undergoing mental troubles/depression/anger, he really pushed the envelope when it comes to porn/violence. I think the 90% of Berserk is really fantasy/dark fantasy but not horror. Its not unadulterated violence all the time. Personally I am OK with it. The magic element is cool, it counterbalances the power of Griffith. But altogether I prefer the story when there was no magic and no apostles/God hand to begin with, as a purely medieval story of battles & knights & political intrigues. But thats just me... |

GoT's fantasy elements are increasing, its less about who will sit on the Iron Throne now. The big threat are the White Walkers, not to mention Dany with her dragons. And then we have Bran doing Bloodraven stuff, people coming back from the dead etc.. and magic is only going to become more important in the next two seasons. The quality of Berserk has only dropped a bit in the past few years (see sea god arc) but definitely not post Golden Age. The Conviction arc was outstanding had well written. There have been plenty of great moments since GA, I think you need to read Berserk again. Both of this series are fantasy, I don't get why people would complain about magic becoming more important |
