Now lets point out his death, during our initial trial he doesn't realize he died probably due to shock and sleep deprivation so when he goes back during the 2nd run he's confused but scoffs it off as a nightmare. He even asks the old man if he's died recently which of course the old man laughs at, so he concludes the first run a dream. During the 2nd run he realizes he dies but then he sees Satella so he is of course distracted. Now during this 3rd run he should start to put the pieces together. ^ Now this is more reasonable than any replies I have seen so far, definitely makes sense and a clear explanation has been given. However I would still disagree with a few points. If he merely scoffed it off as a nightmare, I couldn't have been because he clearly remembers the people's names and where the location of the old man's house was. That wouldn't have been possible if he actually went there, unless he believed it was some premeditation. He knew the names of those that haven't met him before, and if they were their actual names, it definitely meant that it wasn't a dream. Yeah I would definitely hope he puts the pieces together in the next episode since he definitely should, because if he doesn't, I hope the author writes me into the anime so I can smack some logic into him. |

I may also be biased because I'm a light novel reader but I think it's obvious that this show is no "turn your brain off and watch" anime. First of all, its *empathize not emphasize. 2nd of all, yes the fact that I took so much time to just write that much about what I would think how the character should've reacted based on logic and empathy, I believe I am not just mindlessly hating on him. In fact, the way he acted is quite questionable and totally unreasonable if I have to say. Poor scripting/writing by the author on his part. Also you mention this is a no "turn off your brain and watch anime". Well you have to realize, if I simply turned off my brain, I don't think I would have so many things to say about why I found the MC's reaction so illogical. Its the opposite, and the fact that I have been using my brain to think about what is going on that I am not satisfied with how it played out. Okay so after he got murderd the first time and his mind slowys fades aways because of the loss of blood. A few moments later his mind got the full update of information in a mere of secounds you expect him to think something like " yeah thats timetravel"? No SANE person could handle that. The amount of information plus the traumatic/painfull experience of death you expect from a human mind to think 100 % logical? Of course he thinks this is a bad nightmare/daydream. From his point of view he just passed out a few secounds in front of the shop and the amount of information flowing in his head is a hell of a mess. Of course the is confused and not sure whats going on. Of course his mind know whats going on but the consciousness let him think the way he acted as a safe measure. To protect him from the heavy traumatic experience. He handled it pretty well for a human being. A few people could stay sane after such a experience. Not you not i could handle it better. He handled it pretty well for a human being. Stabbed in the stomach and bleeding out like a sow. From my point of view you dont get how a human being in a extreme situation would react. And of course the whole being teleported in a fantasy world is not logical. It is a fictional story. I can not understand how you can think that way. |

Everything was almost great until the 2nd part came along. THE MC IS FUCKING RETARDED, DUMB AF, MENTALLY SLOW ON ANOTHER LEVEL God this anime pissed me off so much. The writer or whoever wrote the story has serious problems with making the watchers/readers feel good. The MC is so fucking god damn stupid. Its like so unrealistic. Anyone with slightly higher than average IQ or logic would have done something completely different. This guy gotta be the worst "parallel world" character. So fucking retarded. It pains me to watch him not know whats going on and not understand that he is going back in time to redo it. He's a fucking otaku, a NEET, a shut-in, HOW ON EARTH CAN HE BE SO STUPID? Why the fuck doesn't he act like what a normal person would do in his circumstance? He has so much more knowledge than those people in another world. GATE: Jitai did a fucking good job of it. But instead this guy wants to do a play along with that super sexy girl that he doesn't take advantage of. This main character has serious issues with logic and how he thinks. The 2nd time there were so many points in time where its so obvious that he went back in time. Has he even considered that? So many things would've been fucking possible since he went into a parallel world in the first place. This rant is not something that I did because i wanted to hate on this show but because I feel the obligation and need to do so. I haven't felt more annoyed and pissed at another anime before. God the MC is retarded. Great art, love the sounds, terrible MC development. Think about it for a moment. He was basically transported to this fantasy world without any warning whatsoever. He was then killed in a sudden and traumatizing manner, but suddenly he is back at the place he was first transported to. Not everyone would immediately think "Hey I've traveled back in time!!!!" for a number of reasons. Firstly he would be disorientated from the ordeal and secondly this second 'transportation' was as sudden as the first time. It's not completely illogical for him to come to the conclusion that he was merely 'transported' back to the starting point and not traveling back in time. Now since he has reached a conclusion about this phenomenon, which would be that he is somehow being constantly 'transported' to this place for whatever reason, he would thus be confused when he is 'transported' back yet again after his second death. You mentioned how he *MUST* have caught on by the second time. Well yeah of course he should have some idea on what is going on. However before he has time to think things through, he immediately catches a glimpse of 'Satella'. Any normal person would choose to chase after someone they care about and assumed to have been injured rather than just sitting around thinking about the strange phenomenons that have just occurred. Now this is where the episode ends of where the MC is still unaware of his looping ability. I have to admit I might be a bit biased as I am a big fan of the light novel. I can assure you the pace does pick up later on and besides, one of the strongest points of this story is the character developments. It makes sense for the author to portray the protagonist in a more naive light in the beginning in order to make more room for character development. I'm not criticizing him for no reason without any claims to backup why I think this way. It is that there were so many points in time where a normal person would've obviously considered the possibility of a time rewind. Especially if they have already been brought to a fantasy world. Also you said to consider the fact he transported to a fantasy world without any warning. However, you need to realize his reaction upon entering a fantasy world was also quite unrealistic. However, lets just give him a chance to believe, ok, maybe he played a ton of games and watched a lot of anime and that he has an open mind. It still wouldn't explain the way he reacted to the loops. I'm not just some random guy who hates everything I watch, if you see my ratings, its way above average for every show. But if standing from a logical and pure viewer's entertainment point of view, this was quite disappointing. It really gives the viewer a "I could've done way better if I were the MC" kind of feel and leaving them very frustrated. So for this reason, I am quite infuriated at the MC. I agree with you on this point. It was also rather frustrating for me to see the way he acted when I first read the story. I was fixated on how I could have done better in that situation, but then I remembered I was in the comfort of my room and didn't just get sliced and stabbed before watching my crush die in front of me. As you have said though, character realism is a very important point for you; so wouldn't a protagonist without any flaws (e.g. never gets outsmarted, zero fear, predicts everything) appear as a rather flat character to the readers? I do admit the author went too far in portraying the protagonist as a dense and blundering fool in order to set the stage for further character developments. If it were me I would have probably cleared up the confusion sooner. Also yeah, his reaction to arriving in the fantasy world was rather cliche... |

That was great. Nice art style, music. I like time travel themed series, so even better. Action, blood, comedy, pretty girls, no-life hero but he actually can fight, cute and not annoying mascot. Just great. Really good first episode (well. one ep, but two parts). And I didn't really planned to watch it. Good thing I did. |

Again hopefully we get further analysis from Subaru himself next week to understand his thought process which I think is the main missing factor here, which may have translated better in LN format rather than anime. |

Interesting. But Subaru is quite slow isn't he? First he was scared to go into the house because he thought he'd die again and then he can't connect the dots to come to the conclusion that the customer of the girl might be his killer(he even heard her talking...)? That put aside though he should have realized after reviving for the second time. And what is he doing? Running up to a total stranger screaming in the middle of the town. Anyway. Looks quite interesting. I just hope he actually progresses at some point and doesn't just go through several versions of the same events happening. He really has to step up his game and start planning in advance(it was there for a moment when he tried to dodge her attack but that was way too late to be of any use as we saw :P). |

But if you don't like the concept, then what exactly is your point? You just said you lost interest in the very first minute of the first episode. The summary in MAL clearly states what the anime is, hell, even the title of the anime itself is giving a clear warning. I have my own concerns about this anime, but for the some lack of common sense of the MC, putting himself into the meatgrinder for a second time. Even if the MC thought he was in a dream, someone could argue if it is the correct decision to put yourself in danger. Telling the possible killer his intetions, to give it back to the owner, just add a cherry on the cake. Anyway, people said it is going to get better, so I will wait. |

I really enjoyed watching this. Protagonist-kun's "restart' reminds me of Edge of Tomorrow (based on All You Need is Kill), and frankly an anime where the main protagonist keeps dying sounds pretty entertaining. The silver-haired girl's personality seemed pretty generic, and I hope that they flesh our her character more (and don't turn her into a tsundere-type). Protagonist-kun seems a little stupid, but he didn't seem overly righteous. I'm hoping that as the show progresses we see more character development, but I'm definitely hyped for episode 2! |

This was a solid and interesting first episode for the most part especially compared to what I was expecting. While it started off quite cookie-cutter, the first episode definitely took a turn for the darker at the end of Part A and into Part B. We'll see how effective the "Groundhog's Day" mechanism is and whether it gets too played out especially over 25 episodes (aka the opposite of ERASED). The animation was a bit inconsistent for me; looking great at times and plain awful the next. We got a solid mix of "starter girls" here in the first episode so we'll see where this goes. |

I don't get why everyone is praising this that much. Sure, it had good moments, but terrible writing issues. I'm not a pretentious guy who hates on overhyped anime because they're not "deep" enough, but come on this episode was fully retarded at some points. The dialogue between the MC and Satella was so weird I actually wondered if the translation was that bad. And don't even get me started on the IQ of the MC which seems to be pretty damn low. And My Hero Academia is having worse ratings for the first ep... Still interested to see where this will go. |

It really bothered me how casually he starts to walk around after being sent into the fantasy world. He's written very oddly as well. He's a gamer but the author only writes him as one when it's used for humour. His self aware joke at not being the protagonist after being sent into the fantasy world was a jab at the same thing happening in the show. I guess it's okay if you're aware that you're no better than the others? If he was a gamer, why wouldn't he ask anyone for a building, like a library, to learn things? How about a notice board? No, have him save the girl! I'm sure his being a 'shut-in' and other quirks are just so the viewer has something to identify with. I liked that last bit of action, though. |

What would be the point of asking for a library? He can't read the language! Unless you expect him to be some kind of genius of languages there's nothing he can do. He doesn't have the time or money to get someone to teach him an entire written language. What exactly do you want from this guy? He's making due the best he can in a terrible situation. Wouldn't most people walk around randomly after being dropped in another world? In reality most people would just end up starving to death or end up a beggar/thief. People are expecting the kind of detached processing that you can only have as an outside viewer of the situation. The death stuff is the worst of it. Can anyone really say how it feels to die a horrible and painful death? Who knows what kind of psychological pressure and instability that would inflict on a person. Of course the first time he quickly pushes it off. Even if it's a logical possibility who the heck would want to consider the reality that they actually died a horribly painful death? Easier and more natural to push it aside and imagine it as an illusion or dream. He obviously can't keep that going on forever, but pretty natural to initially ignore it. |

I don't see the problem here? A lot people would be excited to for a once in lifetime chance to live out fantastical fantasy adventures. And don't kidding yourself about library bit, maybe you might do it, but last thing most people seeking excitement in a place like this is to stuff their face in books which they can't read nor buy. This episode is awesome! It starts off in a generic lighthearted "transported to another world" tone and suddenly does a 360 degree turn. Waiting for more episodes :) |

No the two parts are all episode 1. and of course a lot of hikkikomoris in real life are really excited when entering crowds talking to strange random girls they never met before and of course this kind of people usually have amazing phisical abilitys like this protagonist don't try to make sense of this shit the way this kind of anime(ngnl sao) portray introvert is insulting |

I appreciated the MC's self-awareness at the beginning of the episode, especially since I happened to watch it just after the first episode of Endride. I'd also like to point out that although the setting appears to be a fairly generic medieval fantasy, the tropes are being employed differently, so the self-awareness felt more genuine and relaxing than the hollow self-awareness I've found in certain other series, like Saekano. I enjoyed the dialogue and some of the initial events (such as helping the child); it set up the characters' personalities fairly well, at least as an introduction. In fact, I was enjoying dialogue and light worldbuilding enough to forget from the synopsis that the main mechanic in this series is time travel, at least until Subaru walked in on a dead body. And speaking of which, that ties into my main praise for this first episode. Whoever made the call to make this double length-- I'm assuming it was the director-- did this justice by giving us a good start with which to base our expectations on. If the episode had ended just before or after the first death it wouldn't have been nearly as impactful. By making it double-length, we also go a solid introduction to the time travel mechanic and won't have to wait nearly as long for Subaru to figure out what's going on. Plus, we get the added benefit of seeing Subaru's confusion at Satella's cold response while their initial bonding is still fresh in our minds, just like it is in his. Combine that with other little touches like the light atmosphere in the scene with lesser spirits or the (surprisingly effective) tension in the short fight sequence and I think we might have something with a bit of promise here. Considering the amount of effort White Fox put into their advertising, I'm more or less convinced that they're trying to re-create the success they had with Steins;Gate through a different series, and after seeing this episode I'm not nearly as skeptical about their ability to do so. Color me mildly surprised. I hope the following episodes are as good as the first. |

I came in not really knowing what to expect at all and was blown away. The animation when Felt was running (both on the roof and in battle) was top notch and I loved the trope gags as the main character came to terms with not being MC action man xD Also not new, but the Konosuba is strong with this one (at least in this episode). The main characters had similarly crushed expectations when placed in their new worlds. Explosion girl VA is back. From the air, the city even looks stylistically similar to the city in Konosuba. The difference is this one seems more focused on plot than comedy, and I honestly think I'll probably enjoy it a little more (full disclosure: I gave Konosuba an 8, so that's not low praise). Can't wait to see where this one goes. Definitely the hidden gem of my watches so far! |

I really don't understand how some people cannot comprehend this |
