Love Live proving it's strength as usual, Glory to µ's! Long liive Love Live! Is it near the 250K BD sales now?

Just over 230K. It's not going to be adding 5K a week anymore though and is finally starting to slow down in it's 5th week (by Love Live standards) but could still potentially get there by years end. As of now it's past the first Macross Frontier movie (Also by Bandai Visual coincidentally), but would need to add another 24K or so to pass the second one. In terms of standalone anime movies with no game tie-in package no other anime movie has done better on Blu-Ray at this point. To put it in perspective it had 20K more sales in it's first week than the Madoka Rebellion movie had by the time it stopped charting period BD/DVD combined and is now even above Unicorn Volume 7 for Bandai Visual which was the best selling anime package for 2014.

Actually I didn't realize it myself as others probably didn't because of their curiously low profile in the west, but since the decade has started Bandai/Sunrise has only missed having the best selling domestically originated anime BD/DVD package in Japan all of once in 2013 when the 3rd Evangelion movie came out on account of Gundam, Macross, Love Live and a few other things that seem to sell really well and they have a reasonable chance of doing it again in 2016 depending on what they choose to go with package wise for Love Live Sunshine and Macross Frontier and how well Kizumonogatari manages to do on disc.

Oh thank you for that.. well I believed they can reach 250K (y) As for the BD sales, I got some links that states that Love Live Movie is the 5th best selling BD Animation of Japan and 3rd if disney movies are not included. Evangelion is the top 1 and 2, is Macross Frontier a BD Animation too?

I got high hopes for aqours, I just wish they can maintain the hype of µ's or even better make it bigger than the original. The records of µ's are actually pretty extraordinary so I wish aqours luck!

I'm following the Japanese threads for autumn anime sales, the latest update there today shows Starmyu has crossed 10k sales and overtook OPM lol. Seriously never thought it would sell this much even with event ticket ballot.

Yes it is the 5th best selling Animation BD: http://www.oricon.co.jp/prof/34386/rank/blu-ray/. That's how high it'll go though, because 325K+ by the Big Hero 6 movie is just way out of reach.

Macross Frontier movies were originally released on DVD in 2010 and 2011, but the majority of its sales was from the PS3 game bundle. Macross Frontier is probably one of the pioneering anime franchises to start using multimedia tie-ins to boost sales significantly.

I think Aqours should be OK since their debut single just passed the Idolmaster Cinderella Girls OP, "Star!!" (which had an event ticket and BD Video/Audio all bundled) in sales as of this week, and it only recently just had an anime adaptation announced. The telling point will be how the second single sells with the anime now announced, the addition of Aqours into the successful mobile game, and all the Nico Nico Live and other promotional events that are planned for Aqours. I think the anime, the mobile game and the live concerts were the 3 corner stones needed by µ's to have achieved all of the records that they have now.

Cumulative sales / Weeks Charted / CD Title
65,760 *14 君のこころは輝いてるかい? (Aqours 1stシングル)
65,410 *19 Star!! (THE IDOLM@STER シンデレラガールズ OP)

Next milestone for Aqours is to pass the Idolmaster Million Live Theme Song, "Dreaming!" (which had Million Live 3rd live event ticket, Million Live Game serial code, and BD Animation from Day 1/2 of the Million Live 2nd live all bundled), which is at 67,428.

As always, overwhelming BS sales presented by Love Live. Makes me wonder why its popularity lasts long.

Oricon sales are usually 50%-60% real sales.
everything sells above 3k is consider good, and can have a sequel if it sequel can sell more than 3k... That's some condition, not really right.

More like 70 to 80%. I doubt it's as low as you stated besides in exceptional cases.

As Ejc mentioned above, LoveLive is not just anime, not just music, not just concerts, not just a game, not just fan meetings, manga, novels... it is a full multimedia marketing machine and it just keeps on putting out hit after hit after hit, concerts in larger and larger venues, more and more players in the game (14 million now), now a new set of girls coming on at just the right time as the first set is peaking before fading out. LoveLive has done a good job of putting out the right amount of new content so you know more is coming next and you can afford to buy it all if you're a dedicated LoveLiver.

I wish ShoHolly had such sales

That was a good anime, but really slow paced and focused more on the training and the hard work it takes to becoming an idol. Starmyu on the other hand was more fast paced and had colorful and cheesy inserts song just like UtaPri.

After the finale of K I'm not surprised to see it have bad sales it wasn't as good as the first season. Their light novels and manga are better than the animated series anyways more Totsuka and Homra/Scepter 4 alphabet baes development. xD If they do decide to make another anime its probably going to adapt the K Gakuen manga and probably just be short episodes like the Shingeki one.

huh, I used to take it as 80 too, so it's like 70

I knew haruhi sales were messed up by oricon, but seeing the numbers it's actually even bigger mishap
Imagine a berserk anime by Yoshiaki kawajiri at Madhouse.

Now take a look at Berserk (2016).

Most of those cases in there use the number of copies shipped which is obviously more than the number sold. So a 60-70% coverage by Oricon of shipped copies could certainly translate to 70-80% of sold copies.

I'm a noob to the sells game guys and I was curious just to help myself gauge some sells for some upcoming volumes. I'm sure it ranges and is different for each anime but for the most part how many copies would you say the first print of CDJapan is?

Because they show when their first print has sold out or about to and that will help alot knowing close to how many copies that would be :p

Please and thanks in advance.

not sure about aqours though.. Remember that they managed to pull off that 65K sales by riding through µ's popularity. When aqours debuted, there is no announcement about µ's final live yet. It will be interesting to see whether they can stand on their own now that µ's is on their last few months
