Does anyone have suggestions for darker animes? I've already watched Monster and Death Note and they were pretty good.
Also if you can, give me a brief description of its plot?

+1 Shinsekai Yori
Set in a village in Ibaraki long after a war which destroyed most modern forms of technology and cities like Tokyo, the anime is generally about the society which follows from it based on the experiences of a group of five children. A key element of the story is also 'psychokinesis' - a power of which most of the villagers posses. Further in the anime, we also see the children grow, navigate through challenges on living in this society and learn more about its dark history. The anime also asks some deep, moral questions and the general ambiance of the setting is quite hollow and chilling.

Pscyho-pass is set in a more futuristic, glitzy setting and focuses on a police unit, who unlike the traditional use of weaponry, they use a machine called 'The Dominator' which judges an individual's 'crime coefficient' before it is able to be used. While most of the episodes are the classic detective/police style ones, there is also an undercurrent mystery concerning a central 'opponent' who seems to play somewhat a 'puppet-master' role in these sub-plots too. Again, the society in this anime is also questioned.

Puella magi madoka magica! It seems like your stereotypical magical girl anime but trust me, it's so much more. On that same note, wixoss works too, the difference is that the latter focuses on a card game. Also check out the evangelion rebuild movies, very well known mecha anime that is also psychological.

Another - A very dark and intense anime, that sorta meets your requirements.
Tokyo Ghoul - Not as dark, but still is watchable.
Mirai Nikki - I think this falls under that category, it's really good though.

Gantz - MC dies then gets "reincarnated" into a game where he must fight monsters to earn points for his freedom

Code Geass - MC is given a power to control people's minds and uses it in an attempt to overthrow the Emperor, his father.

Hellsing Ultimate - Vampires and Nazis and shit just watch it (then do yourself a favor and watch the abridged version to lighten it up)

Kara no Kyoukai - Explaining it would ruin it. The 5th movie is one of my personal favorites.

Ghost in the Shell (SAC and Arise series) - Saw the movie on your "to do" list but make sure you watch these series as well.

Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan - Tsuiokuhen - Again the series is on your to do list, but watch the OVA first. It's extremely dark especially in comparison to the series itself.

Higurashi - dark and definitely worth it. It has a lot of gore but if you're ok with that, I definitely recommend it.
