This late summer, or was it early autumn?, film4 (UK) showed many Ghibli films. So I rewatched them in the initial hope I'd get to watch them in original dub + English subs : nope. English dub. Well, I rewatched them anyway, because why not ?
Other than that, when I want to watch episode 8ff of sth. but watching episode 7 is like a week ago, then I may rewatch episode 7 to get back into it.
Also to watch it in another dub is a good reason for me to rewatch a show.
zombie_pegasus said: I rewatched Spirited Away three times. The first time I watched it was when I was a little kid and it scared the shit out of me. I progressively enjoyed it more with each rewatch. With episodic shows it is easier to watch specific episodes than to watch the entire thing. There's a My Little Pony episode that I'm sure I've watched at least 20 times and there are many episodes that I haven't even watched once. When you watch something enough times you start to expect the same things but you can still enjoy it more. I also feel much more nostalgic about movies that I watched several times as a kid than movies that I only watched once. The rewatches become the main part of the entertainment and if you rewatch it again as an adult you are watching in the same way as you did when you were a kid rather than rewatching it for the first time. I don't know how many times I've watched "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" or "Monsters Inc.", but I remember noticing certain details during specific rewatches and would even remember specific feelings that I had at the time. Because I was essentially feeling nostalgic at the time I can feel even more nostalgic about it because the feeling of nostalgia is one of the things I'm feelings nostalgic about. Sometimes I would even remember how I was eating my junk food during certain scenes in later rewatches.
I feel that most anime series are too long to be able to rewatch in the same way I would with movies. Because I can access so many anime online for free instead of only buying a few movies a year I also have less reason to watch the same anime several times.
This is very interesting. Thank you.
I can not reproduce this for myself, as for the most time we did not have a TV when I was a child, and even when we had, I was not much interested. Not that there was much for children in the first place.
I could maybe compare this to re-reading childrens books, or even some comic books. But I do not really remember if there were some I re-read a lot as a child, but not anymore as an adult because I then noticed how bad they were.
Those I reread as an adult, also several times, they are really good and/or interesting stuff, and I sometimes re-read them "analytically", wanting to see what exactly makes them so good.
(Or sometimes I re-read them to learn foreign languages, because they usually employ easy speak. Like Pippi Långstrump :D - when you know the story by heart, it is easy to read in Swedish) |
