Hello Strangers, have you ever met a fujoshi irl?

And if so, how close were they to the stereotype?

I wanna know about these mythical creatures.

I am a fujoshi irl. Shocking, I know.

It's really no different from guys being attracted to female characters/yuri subtext. I don't think it even effects my opinions towards shows much... a bad show with BL subtext is still a bad show, and vise versa. it's just something extra to enjoy.

I haven't. I would say I want to, but I doubt the reality would be like the fantasy.

My female cousin,
She wears glasses, she likes Yaoi, she tends to pair two characters no matter what the genders are, and she likes to write fanfics.
she always go "kyaaaa!" and sometimes grabbing something whenever she sees Kakashi from Naruto, and Miharu from Nabari no Ou.

My bestiary listed pocky as a fujoshi's primary form of nutrition.

They own a lot of stuffed animals.
They tend to not be very open about anime when outside and irl but get real geeky when they meet fellow hobby friends.
Primarily watches yaoi.
They ship just about everything.
Owns at least one anime-related pillow.

Then perhaps I simply shouldn't refer to myself as fujoshi, because none of that applies to me. (Well, expect the second point, but I thought the fujoshi stereotype was the opposite?) Or perhaps your book is fantasy? You really should look into the researchers, make sure they used properly applied regression analysis, surveyed a diverse group of fujoshi, have a decent sized bibliography, ect. Can never trust studies these days.

Yes, with mixed results. Most are either really nice with some that are really annoying (mainly obsessed Hetalia fans) or just plain silly (most of the really obsessed ones you know that send valentines to their favorite boy for example).

All strawberry flavored sweets are gross, like who came up with the idea of strawberry milk? Gross. Naturally pocky are no exception.

Barakamon portrays a fujoshi in self-denial so I'm just basing my assumption on that (and my bestiary).

It's a slice of life so it must pertain elements to real life! Right? RIIIIGHT?

Nah, more surprise then disgust, I was shocked that people wrote fervent fanfic about Sasuke and Naruto making out. Then I began to realize it actually made sense, well, I was twelve, and I had fujoshi friends, and then that Hetalia phase... let's not go there. Anyways, Barakamon, from what I know from other interactions with the many fujoshi I've met, is rather on point.

Those fujoshi friends of mine joined tumblr around the time I joined mal, and that was that.

A hetalia phase? That's actually pretty interesting, I've heard that just about every other fujoshi has had a hetalia phase or some association with it. I won't pry since you don't seem willing to talk about it though :o

At one point in time, probably around when most of the current fujoshi you encounter were first getting into the fujoshi fandom (something I've never been a real part of, because it can get very hiveminded), Hetalia was a Big Thing for female fans because of it's predominately (attractive) male cast, a few strong female characters, ability to be played for both humor and angst, and a ton of BL subtext. Hetalia was very accessible to yaoi fangirls, more so then most anime, and unlike Black Butler or Something Romantica it was actually a good show. Sadly, because all of the young fujoshi were drawn into it, Hetalia had one of the most cancerous fanbases of all time. There were a lot of preteens using Hetalia to explore their sexuality by cosplaying and writing fanfic. The size of the fanbase was unlike anything I've heard of, and it always had a huge prominence at cons. The fandom is nothing like it once was, barely a shadow of its former self, even though the show is airing currently. I still like Hetalia, because I love history, and I find Hetalia nostalgic and comforting, but that fandom is, on recollection, very embarrassing.
