This manga itself is more a depiction about a woman with low self-confidence, eating disorders, and severe body image issues. She couldn't let go of her cheating boyfriend, (while bullying can be severely damaging) she could never fight back or even talk about her mistreatment at work. Director Kinoshita in Shirobako is overweight though perhaps as bit more than the real-life person he is modelled on, director Mizushima Seiji: There's another overweight character in that show who sheds pounds via an unusual diet. |

| Fat girls are not pretty. Anime with pretty girls sells. In all seriousness though, being fat in Asia is a HUGE disgrace. If you are fat, you are worthless. Also, there's a difference between chubby, fat and obese. PS: In the LN, Haru doesn't look like he does in the anime. He has normal height, but is still fat. In the anime, there's a hypothesis that he doesn't look that way either, it's just the way he feel he looks like. |

| I don't really care if a guy in anime is fat or not unless he is noticeably portrayed as a no-life loser who lives in his mom's basement. Fat girls on the other hand is a different story. I still don't care that much, but I always expected overly sexualized or skinnier girls because that is a main thing I see in every anime I watch. Overall I don't care if a character is fat if they are a good or at least a decent character. |

| anime is apart of pop culture so it obviously reflects on the main population of japan. japanese people have lower BMIs because they are prone to diseases like diabetes so they keep their weight on the smaller side to prevent getting sick. also their diets are filled with proteins and "good carbs" so they dont need to eat as much. so there really arent that many fat japanese people. |

One thing to remember: fat does NOT equal big breasts. The things is, in Japan especially, overweight and obese people are a really low percentage of the population. I think they only have a 3 percent obesity percentage(BMI over 30) and a 24 percent overweight percentage(BMI over 25). Most people in the overweight category look pretty athletic in large t-shirts, so it would be rare for people to call them fat. So if you think about it, having many bigger characters would be pretty unrealistic to a japanese audience. |
