I've been wondering for a long time, now. Why are girls so interested in Yaoi pairings? What makes them so appealing?

I really wanted to know. If, your a boy and you like Yaoi give me your opinion, too! I'm not hear to judge, I just want to know the facination with it.

Thanks in advance!

P.S.: I know of the L and Light; Suzaku and Lelouch; Ciel and Sebastian & Naruto and Sasuke . Are the ones I know or heard of. Please tell me of any other pairings or what makes a pairing.

I'm not a fan of Yaoi or Yuri.

I assume it's much the same reason why many of us guys like yuri?

And also, some pairings are simply awesome, like Reinhard x Kircheis. No homo.

To be bluntly truthful: it's arousing. I'm not a girl, but I can see how it works. The guys are hot (100% of the time) and they're.. well, they're also displaying their manliness. Regular pairs (guyxgirl) are fine, but nothing's special about those. They make good romance anime series and dramas, but there isn't any "excitement" (for lack of better words) in the relationship itself.

I'm not a fan of yaoi (eeeeew) or yuri (nice.... but my Christian upbringing pulls me back). Just fyi here.

There's also perhaps some jealousy when viewing regular pairings, that is nonexistent in yui/yaoi pairings. For example, using a romance/comedy/ecchi series:
1 -- The typical guy accidentally falls on girl scene: ".... That bastard. Wtf... what's wrong w/ him.. why isn't he getting off already."
2 -- Girl to girl interaction (Boobage grabbing in hot springs, perhaps?): "O_o nice, lol"

Yeaaaaah. All of this is the viewpoint of an unbiased anime watcher/manga reader.

Supposedly, even many women prefer girls making out over guys making out - just like men do. At least that's what I heard. I wonder.

1. Hot guy x2
2. Sensitive and appealing stories for the female heart. Much like soap operas but with Hot Guys
3. That mystery that is a man transformed into stuff we can comprehend
4. For the same thing some guys like lesbians

Edit: Anything makes a pairing. My favourite is Kuncite/Zoicite from Sailormoon. Also, I rarely like non-canon.

I don't like yaoi, though I'm not particularly adverse to yuri (not a big fan, however). I just don't like male characters in general. There have been very few I've ever had any sort of fondness for; far too many are either wimpy whiny idiots or stupid machos. Seeing two hook up is just... ugh. Unless it involves genderbending, traps or futa. That's fine.

This is a big part. When the main alternative is generic annoying and stupid shoujo heroine, you might as well replace her with someone that is hot. I usually don't like the overly girly guys though.

And I don't like non-canon pairings. IE, Kanda and Allen really do dislike each other. Greatly. That's not foreplay.

In some cases, it lessens the threat. If you're a girl and two guys are in a relationship, there's no girl involved, so there's no reason to be jealous. "The hot guy getting with a girl that's not you," or something.

As an added bonus, it's just hot. Sometimes girls just don't want to look at what they already have.

all girls are lesbians. but the male-dominated society we live in just forces them to succumb to hetero relations.

with this internal confusion, the female subconscious blends usual "girly" traits with "manly" exteriors along with their homo-tendencies, and end up highly attracted to yaoi.

MEN EVERYWHERE. With no girl to look at.

If you're into boys, why just look at one having sex and intimacy you're attracted to?

And I much prefer girl x boy than boy x boy. I don't like thinking about yaoi but I have nothing against yaoi fanart if it's GOOD fanart.

If there's a yaoi fangirl who also likes LOVES Katekyo Hitman Reborn! I swear she'll make a couple out of everything... and make yaoi fanfics. And her biggest dream is to make her own yaoi doujin.

I guess it the same reason why many men find Lesbians hot.

Personaly I don't like the annoying fangirls, its fine if you like it, just don't be a 13 year old spazz about it. I don't find Lesbians hot so I don't watch Yuri(is that the right one? or is it ecchi? no idea) but I'm strange I don't find anyone attracitve untill I know the person, then attraction comes to me, but only rarly, I'm sure theres a term for that?

Also I hate seeing pairings on my favorite characters, please put it behind a spoiler girls and guys, respect that I don't want my anime to be ruined because everytime I see a certain character I get reminded of THAT picture!

As a girl I can watch yaoi and yuri with no problem. My mind just registers it as a regular pairing. xD Sometime I swear I feel like the only girl who doesn't wet their pants at the sight of two guys making out.

The yaoi fans piss me off though. Slash pairings that make no sense? Yeah no. I'm rather isolated when it comes to anime with my friends, because they'll see two random guys (real life guys that they don't know) and will start squealing "YAOI!" at them. Then they'll proceed to ask all these personal questions to the poor gay guys who just wanted to make out in peace. It's like they think gay people are their toys. /minirant

There is only one guyxguy pairing that is serious business, and that is Yuri and Wolfram from Kyo Kara Maou. All these crack pairings girls come up with is just some attempt at filling their sick fantasies. You know in their minds they're imagining that they're one of the guys. It's easier then pretending to be one of the girls in a hetero pairing because all girls are mortal enemies deep down. I'm pretty sure that's why you see a lot of those pairings with the cold, aloof manly guy and the effeminate emotional man (woman in a male body).

I don't think yaoi is a big deal at all personally. I've read/watched my fair share of it and generally I only enjoy it for shallow reasons similar to why I enjoy shoujo. Except instead of a generic and stupid female lead we get to see two hot guys as someone else already mentioned. Not that they aren't generic in their own right (I'm not a fan of the girly uke stereotype either).

What I really don't like is that some of these fangirl types eat up yaoi anime/manga and rate it highly regardless of it's actual quality simply because it invloves guy x guy action. I'm thinking of Junjou Romantica right now. It shouldn't matter what the sexual orientation of the characters is. A bad show is still a bad show :/

When I stream some yuri shows on the internet, she closed the browsers. When I bought some yuri mangas, she burned them all. I believe she may the most extreme one but I also believe not all yaoi fangirls behave in same way.

In my opinion, some people hate yaoi just because of the fangirls, just like some people in the past(usually men) hate Backstreet Boys and other boybands. They don't hate the bands, only fangirls.

Your sister is crazy.

While I am not a huge fan of yaoi, I do like it occasionally. But like any other series, it's gotta be good. I can't enjoy if it's not good, just because it has fanservice.

Here's two things I really dislike:

1. Non-canon yaoi pairings. Like, ridiculous pairings where they turn straight guys gay. It's not the fact that they've turned gay; it's the fact that whenever this happens, if would require for the characters in question to be ridiculously OOC. Same goes for yuri pairings, though for some reason I don't really see those.

2. Yaoi fangirls. I mean, returned, stupid fangirls. Like it's been mentioned, the kind that will give a show a 10 just because it has yaoi. The kind that calls you homophobic if you don't like yaoi. The kind that runs around conventions smacking people with yaoi paddles, telling male cosplayers to make out with each other even when their girlfriend is clearly standing RIGHT next to them. You know the kind.

I. Don't. Know.

To me het pairings, yuri pairings and yaoi pairings are all the same.

I'll like it if it makes me squeal XD

The thing I personally dig for in yaoi pairings is the guys blushing. Even in het/pairings in shojo manga I adore it when the guy blushes. So two guys = uke + seme = uke = blushing.

*shrugs* To me, I love the guy/guy interaction in yaoi. If there were to replace a girl in place of the uke I wouldn't mind either and I'd love the series just as much (as long as the stuff the I deem inappropriate in either cases are gone). Kind of like Gakuen Heaven (the anime)

So pretty much to me it's not about the action xD. The smex in yaoi is usually just a given so there's always the option of shonen-ai lol. Also, the censored 'action' usually is never in regular shojo so I suppose that's the contributing factor for other fangirls I guess.

A lot of people are saying the same thing, but this isn't completely true. There's lots of women that read both. There's plenty of yuri drawn to appeal to women, such as the publications in Yuri Hime. The majority of its readers are female. Kinda breaks that logic. It's mostly art style and characterization/plot that is appealing.

I don't see all the big fuss about yaoi myself. Personally, I tend to avoid that genre, since it's not my cup of tea. The storylines aren't usually that great anyway.

It just kind of irritates me when fangirls go around pairing up characters who are obviously straight. Naruto x Sasuke anyone? AND brandishing fanarts of them kissing and whatnot. Urgh.

I think seeing two guys getting it on is a tad too much. But I don't particularly mind shounen-ai, as long as the attraction is mild and there isn't any hardcore stuff going on.

That was encouraged due to the kiss that happened. You can't really blame fangirls for taking that and running with it. Though pairings between leads are common in fanfics and stuff anyway. This happens on all fronts, whether straight, gay or lesbian. Fans make pairings wherever they want.
