Well yeah they are probably better than it, at least Naruto is. But they are still meh.

A lot of battle shonen stories follow very similar formula, have a lot of similar traits, some of them being really stupid. So I completely understand people hating on them in general.

I liked the flashback, and the goodbye scene.... but the villain was terrible, and ruined what could have been a touching story for the village leader. Then of course, we get stuck watching his fight against Luffy... ugh.

Even though Seven Deadly Sins is generic I find it enjoyable. TBH imo it's a prime example of an anime that is generic but is still good despite that, Rave Master is another example. There is a giant as a good guy so I guess that's original.

Drum Island is where they first mentioned both the Will of D and Roger's real name I think, so maybe that's why.

Anyway, I enjoyed that arc because of Kureha for the most part. She was an extraordinary character, and the foremost reason for why that arc was way above average for me.
