It was a figure of speach. It doesn't mean we feel like killing myself over an anime that has been over. Just like everyone else said here - it's the mix feeling of sadness, anxiety, loneliness and the like that people experience.
Go ahead start a flamewar.

Thing is - you can't say "if you get depressed so easily". Some things just affect us differently. For example I don't really seem to be disturbed by death. I've seen a lot of it and it doesn't bother me anymore but I would still get such feeling after an anime.

Ignoring the fire staring above my head, I'm gonna stay on topic. Doing any of these things will help you get over it:

1.)Look up hentai of the characters. It's what I do. For ecchi anime anyway.

2.)Read reviews of the anime you finished. Get other peoples' opinions. Generally, if you found an anime to be Godly, reading about its flaws and plotholes will help you realize that it wasn't all you thought it was, and help you quit thinking about it.

3.)Read the manga. Most good anime came from a novel. And if you don't wanna bother reading the novel, it goes to show you probably aren't as big of a fan as you thought.

4.)Just jump into another anime.

1.I guess it would work on ecchi but on other series (especialy on a more serious tone) I think it would destroy the story/characters for me.

2.As long as I can agree on the concept of this idea I must also say it just doesn't work on me like that. I don't enjoy reading people bashin on my favourite series especially since I often rate not based on logic and facts but rather on emotions which makes my rating way of from other people.

3.I love Chrome Shelled Regios, rewatched it like 4 times and yet I can bring myself to reading the novel. I love reading fantasy and horror books but when it comes to j-novels they tend to bore me pretty quick. I guess I need the visual part in this japaneese type of enternainment.

4.That's the one I can second 100%

As someone who watches anime pretty much exclusively while drunk I can tell you that it's not a good idea.

I would say it depends how deep the feeling is for you OP, but in general it's a good thing to be somewhat "shaken" after a good watch/read. It just means that it was worth the time invested.

Yeah I get a sinking feeling in my stomach whenever I finish something I enjoy, whether that's a TV series, anime, film, book etc.. I usually have a little break then start with something else.

That's brilliant. ^_^

There's definitely a high after finishing a great series. There's also a low if you don't find anything for while. With the amount of anime out there I'm sure to find another great series. The only question is how many series in between? Fortunately, I'm liking JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

Basically, just never stop watching, move on from one to the next and the post-anime depression will never get its chance to hit you. Keep moving on and don't look back.

I get post-anime depression after every anime I've enjoyed, but they don't last very long. Even Azumanga Daioh made me a little sad, but fortunately the ending was sweet.

Finished Steins;Gate a few days ago, and that hit hard. :( Amazing anime.

I usually watch SOL/light comedy-adventure to cheer up eg. Nichijou

Watch more anime.

Its a win win situation. If you watch another good anime, then that will help you get over the previous good one you just completed. BUT, if you watch a bad anime then... you will also forget about the previous good anime you just completed because it was so bad your mind exploded.

Basically this.

I would like to add usually it is good to change up the genres a bit because it is hard to immediately find another brilliant series in the same genre that can match up to the one you just finished.

Well it comes down to how the series ends. If its amazing like Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Soul Eater/manga, or Trigun/MAXIMUM, I feel satisfied and happy but at the same time somewhat irritated that I, once again, have to go out and find another anime for my tastes. And until I find that next anime, I tend to just dick around and try to hear about anime.

Luckily I have hope! Soul Eater WILL come back to anime. No idea when but its obvious BONES loves Soul Eater as much as I do and theyll definitely reboot it like they did with FMA.

I fangirl to the extreme for at least a week, with all the fanfiction and shit. And then afterwards, I watch another anime, but I'm scheming crossovers for the old anime left and right. And if I really like it, the fangirl/fanfiction stage will never stop, only subdue.

I look at the recommendation page of the related anime to see which shows are like that one. If I'm not satisfied with the info about these recommended shows, I just start watching a slice of life. And when it ends, I start watching the ones which my friends suggest.

The only anime I've ever felt anything close to depression after watching was probably Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal, and a lot of that had to do with how attached I was to Kenshin's character and the fact that I watched it in a very dark, very cold room ;~;

Usually if I feel sad or something from a series, I'll either go for a run or eat something, or watch a turn-your-brain-off kind of show. I used to run a lot after reading sad books or watching sad movies, and it really helps clear your mind.

Ofc best cure is to just watch an episode of AzuDaioh, 10000% guaranteed lols

Only a few series really made me feel that level of sadness upon their ending. Understanding why I'm sad is my first step, then accepting it is my second step. Finally, I move on past those feelings once I've expunged them from my system, via crying or prolonged thinking. I didn't forget those feelings I had when Monogatari Series: Second Season ended, or Cowboy Bebop ended. Understanding my feelings really allows me to deal with them quickly.

I don't know if it's depression what I feel after finishing a good anime... It's more like this feeling where your body feels empty, like there's a "void" within you that suddenly appears after you see the ending credits roll down on your screen. It's tough to deal with I'll tell you what! :(

I'm not running out of enjoyable anime to watch anytime soon so I guess I don't have any trouble after finishing a good anime. If I were to be depressed by something it would be after watching some reeaaalllyyy depressing anime.
Guess why I'm watching Aria right now? xD

Oh wait there is one thing actually... no matter how many times you rewatch something, it'll never be the same as the first time :(

I get that depressing feeling when I feel really "connected" with the characters. When the series come to an end, it feels like I'm saying farewell to some really close friends, knowing that I will never share any "new" moments with these characters (unless a Season 2 comes along).

I remember finishing Clannad and I felt like crap for a week. In more recent memory, it would be Sakurasou.

A good idea would to be to not watch anime for at least 2 days. Let the feeling sink in and just think about the storyline hard. Try to analyze the plot and characters, and just daydream. After that, find some filler anime that you skim over the summary of, watch that and other for a week, and then start scavenging the internet for anime similar to the one you had the feels for. Once you lose the initial feels for a good series, it's easier to find another that seems more amazing after you finish. Good luck!

Also, there's nothing wrong with being emotional after a series, or any kind of entertainment. That's what they're for. Emotions are great, they make you human. Embrace them and let them flow! :D

With me, if i find the characters to be very likeable and still wish to see them have adventures by the time the series is over...yes, i do feel a sense of sadness after finishing.

If its immensely depressing or/and weird as hell...like End of Evangelion, then that also applies.

It's funny, i never get this feeling when watching movies or playing video games (the only game i truly felt attachment too lately was Dark Souls and i felt a sense of accomplishment for the first time in ages from a game, not depression), just anime. Does anyone know why this might be?

But this isn't my biggest problem. My biggest problem is whether I should look up porn for that anime or not. If I am too deeply connected with the characters then I won't look it up. If there are too many hotties or I have no significant connections then I look up porn. I don't want to destroy the "purity" of the character so I don't look up porn. Yeah, so, there's that just in case you were curious... I'll regret posting this but I won't delete it.
