What is your nationality/citizenship? If you were given a chance to change your citizenship/nationality, what would be it?

Nationality: Filipino

I want to be a Swiss German or Japanese.. I love Germany and Japan! And if I become Japanese, I will not have to read subs! And Swiss are cool.

How about you?

American (I know there are a lot of people getting ready to yell at me for that word, deal with it). No. I would only change it if I really needed to for some reason. I know this country has a lot wrong with it, but every country does, and no country will ever improve if its citizens have the mentality that they would rather leave than make any attempt to change it. 1 person really will rarely make a difference, but 1 + 1 +1 +1, etc, really will, and joining in the masses that would rather escape a problem than face it can only serve to damage your own country (no matter which one you're from). Unless you're a corrupt politician or criminal, then you're just helping us out by leaving, lol.

When compared to developing nations we have a lot going for us. When compared to other 1st world nations a lot of people disagree (as well as our own people) with certain aspects of our government and system. The whole surveillance thing being one of them, education, and healthcare being the 2 major other ones. There's a mix the world over of people who say we "should" help other countries because we have the means to and then people who say we should mind our own business. Our citizens are also mixed on that, though people lean more towards the "mind your own business" part. It pisses people off when a country gets involved in another country's affairs that really has nothing to do with the intrusive country. As a nation on a whole and individually we can be quite arrogant, acting like we are better than the rest of the world. No one ever likes that either. I never realized how arrogant americans could be until I lived abroad and got to see how they acted in another country. There are both good and bad, but the arrogant jerks are loud mouths and give us a bad reputation. But really, what country doesn't have so many problems? the USA is just like the loud mouth one that stands out a lot and effects the world more strongly than most other countries, so we're demonized more frequently. If that gives you an idea, at least those are the impressions I get from foreigners that can't stand us. Oh, and a lot of people hate that we call ourselves "american", but yet can never come up with a good alternative >.< lol

You missed the main problem people have with the US.

Anyways ontopic: Italian, I don't care much for nationality, I don't have any real love for either the country of my birth, nor the country that I live in. I don't see why I should have any kind of pride in where I was born.

New Zealander and if given the chance i would change residency to either England, South Korea or very maybe Japan just because these countries live with a decently big population but not too big like U.S.A or extreme China they are pretty safe countries (especially Japan) have good or decent economies and all round good living standards dont get me wrong NZ has good living standards it just doesn't have as many job opportunities or economic advantages it is beautiful and safe but it doesn't have the economy or opportunities (plus it is expensive to buy entertainment products) but with only 4.5 million people it is hard to compare with other countries.

Well, I really don't wanna take this thread off-topic, especially since we've had enough topics about this recently...but.

Assassinating political leaders who didn't agree with the US, supporting brutal dictators in Africa and the Middle East for the past 40+ years~, Drones (especially Drones, more than most people realise) and ever war for the past 30 years were all for economic reasons (and especially corporate profits), exploiting poorer countries and 'stealing' their natural resources (US: 5% world population, uses 25% of the world's natural resources, example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banana_massacre there are many cases like this in the more recent past).

I'd group the other stuff in with war mongering and involving ourselves in another country's business, but good point on the economic monster thing. Numbers and facts aside, you're right that people also detest our place in the world's market as a whole.

OT I still wouldn't change my nationality unless it became necessary for some change I had to make and really made life a lot easier (like if I had to move back to my husband's country for some reason and couldn't stay without the change). Like I said, we have our problems, but everyone does. And you can't be a world power with the way this world is run without having enemies, beggars, and friends, and many that fit more than one of those, lol. Though people sometimes just feel they fit better into a country with different types problems or magnitudes of the same, so I can see how some others would want to do that.

Of course if I fell in love with some other country upon visiting and just felt my heart belonged there, I might consider it.

Australian by birth, that said I do not or ever will believe in patriotism or nationality, that is just another form of political innuendo to control the masses drummed into us throughout or 'education'.

I have no nationality, I am humane and no I cannot change my designated nationality or embrace it.

I wouldn't really change it, due to English being the most widespread language and America having some points marginally better than England. I might consider someplace in Scandinavia, but I'd worry about the language stuff...

hmm, Oppression? not really. Discrimination? yes. I live in California where it's as diverse as it gets, and it's still everywhere.

OT: American obviously. I probably wouldn't change it, I'd rather help change my country than leave it. Not saying, I wouldn't mind living in other places though.
