I'm curious about the different opinions people have. And it doesn't necessarily have to be painfully bad, though, you can post that too. I've seen shows that are really good but what happens in them is really painful. One for me is 5cm. I find it to be a really great movie but the way the story develops is absolutely heart-wrenching and I remember my heart beating so fast it hurt. I checked my pulse a little bit after and it was 93, yeah (though I'm not 100% sure how accurate that is cuz it is very high). Rumbling Hearts and School Days are some shows that had similar but not as powerful affects on me as well.

Painfully bad is Eikan. I watched it on megavideo before work and for some reason the time limit cut me off at about 20 minutes into the first episode and I was sooooooo happy it did because if it hadn't I may have gouged my eyes out.

Wow, I wonder the reason for the agressivity.

The most painful thing I ever had to watch was Wedding Peach. I had to force myself to watch it and to enjoy it. AND I DID.

Physically painful: Higurashi. I have very sensitive fingernails...yeah...

I can totally relate with you on 5 Centimeters Per Second, I get a bit (heh, a bit) teary-eyed whenever I watch it. So depressing.

Nijuu Menso no Musume was terribly painful to watch, in a bad way. Kept trying to convince me it was going to get better, but wow. Other recent examples include Shikabane Hime and Kurozuka and I'm certain the former would be a lot more enjoyable if I could see what was going on.

Painfully bad: Love Hina Again. Way to savagely rape everything good about the latter part of the manga.

Painfully emotional: Saikano... and don't think this means it's a good emotional. This hurts because they spend the entire length of the series cramming as much agony and despair into this series as humanly possible, so much so, you'll wish

Painful in a bad way:
- Blade of the Immortal: I can't think of single thing I liked about it.
- ef ~ memories: not a single thing I liked about this either. Well other than it made me (unintentionally) laugh when

- Rahxephon: I couldn't get into it even a little bit, I just found it so unbelievably boring.

Painful in a good way:

I only downloaded that whole thing because Kigeki was on it, and it was bothering me that i have these 3 unwatched. that was some of the most painful half hour in my anime watching life :| i had to force myself to sit through them. (but then i rewatched Kigeki and made it all better)

For me it was bleach,

------- SPOILERS AHEAD --------------

let me explain, there are many things I can barely stand in anime, like extreme fanservice, slow spacing, predictable plot twists, bad animation, etc.

but there is something special I just cant stand, and that is dragged and boring fights, you know, the ones that just revolve around explosions, dashing and skipping the actual action scenes replacing them with talk and flashbacks, specially if is a show that revolves around the fights (meaning the fights should be the most entertaining part of the show).

I think DBZ shows a very good example of this, where you could find about 5 followed episodes of just the same attacks we had already seen in past battles and generally no creativity.

so I was recommended bleach by a lot of people, telling me it had these "interesting" fights, so I rushed and started marathoning from beginning until the end of soul society, honestly, I was expecting amazing fights like those of Jojos bizarre adventure, underdogs showings amazing guts and moves like kuwabara on yuyu hakusho, or even tearful pasts like chopper and his mentor.

well, I didnt get either, My biggest example is ichigo vs kempachi, even though this fight is so "praised and loved" its actually just a big talk between ichigo and his hollow side, with about 3 or 4 slashes, concluding in an explosion (which is actually how almost every ichigo fight concludes) I also got mountains of unnecesary characters that never die or kill anyone (captains and vice-captains, which seem to have replaced the original group of heroes for strange reasons).

sorry but honestly I wasnt on the mood of watching DBZ with swords. I have even been following on the manga at some points, and it turns out ichigo still only knows 1 attack (getsuga tensho) and hasnt used his brain or an original attack since then (no, turning into vizard, evil side whatever doesnt count, its a repetitive and cliched concept).

---------- SPOILERS UP THERE ----------------

I just know this will generate some bad replies, goddam.

Painfully emotional: Elfen Lied - like the 2nd last episode I think. And of course the and the general brooding themes.
Also Legend of the Galactic Heroes of course. The most emotional ride of my life, and I'm not even finished yet.

Painfully bad: Apocalypse Zero. Shits horrible.
Oh, and of course Saikano. I did not like having terribly directed sadness and emotion shoved down my throat. It just made me loath the show even more.

I know this isn't directed at me, but, Saikano is 100% drama, that's the entire show, nonstop slow(SLOWEST EVER) romance + weird drama. It has a few good moments that's why I personally gave it a 7. I'm sure people that are more accepting of drama will rate it higher.

It's probably the most annoying retarded drama ever. The entire show tries to get an emotional reaction out of the viewer, and I think it fails horribly. Firstly, the character designs are probably the most annoying I've ever seen. Secondly the story is 'tragic' but because the characters aren't interesting, it's hard to detect the supposed tragedy of the story.
Buuut that said there are a lot of people out there who seem to enjoy the over-the-top drama that Saikano delivers.
It wasn't completely bad. I mean, the romance side of things was ok, but the rest of it was boring and drawn out. Personally I preferred the OVA, because there was more action and some focus on the more interesting characters of the series.
