| There's 2 manga series that I know of that has an old man as a protagonist. Dangerous Jiisan and Tensai Bakabon. |
| The closest I can think of is Howl's Moving Castle, but she is temporarily an old character. Other animes have "Old" characters, but actually have a large life-span/immortal so they look young... |
| There is in manga. Legend of the Strongest Man Kurosawa for example. Since most anime fans are of young age, the protagonists tend to be young. |

| The oldest protagonist in an anime I've seen is Daikichi from Usagi Drop and he was only in his 30s. In KHR the 9th Vongola boss was 70 but he's not a main character so I don't think he counts. He's the oldest anime character I've seen so far though. |
| One of the two main protagonists of One Outs is 43 years old. The other though is probably somewhere between 25-35 I'm guessing. That's the oldest one I can remember. |

| I think Tenma from Monster was in his late 30s for most of the show. Gin and Hana from Tokyo Godfathers are middle-aged. It's a sort of tricky choice, but Chiyoko from Millennium Actress is a 75-year-old woman. And the most prominent role in My neighbors the Yamadas was the father's, if I remember well (in his 40s I guess). Aside from these, and the above mentioned: Daikichi from Usagi Drop and the old man from Tsumiki no ie I don't recall anything else. Maybe in some other short... |
