| Alright so we probably all had or have a teacher that is really boring or that can't teach. Most of the time you have to bear with it for the year/semester and find things to do (cellphones, sudoku, anything else) to keep yourself busy from their boring lectures. This can be in high school, middle school or college.. The thing is, in college, if a class sucks you can just leave and come back the next week without any consequences. I did just that earlier today after an hour and a half because this teacher is amongst the worst that I ever had. I'll try to switch classes and hopefully get another teacher for this course because I don't want to fail. BUT, I wasn't the only one to leave. The thing is, at least 10 students left after 30 minutes and it was while she was speaking. It was sooooooo awkward (the doors are at the front next to her desk which makes it ever more awkward). My questions are .. What do you do when you have a boring class/teacher? If you could leave the class without consequences would you do it (if you're in HS, which most of MAL is)? - How would you react if someone left the classroom in the middle of a lecture? |

| Well, if I had a boring teacher (which I do), and if there were no consequences, I'd totally get out of there. If someone were to leave in the middle of a lecture out of nowhere, I'd laugh my ass off. |

| Well I either: eat, drink something, sometimes I sleep(if it's first period), suck it up and stay in class, or leave. I've gotten suspended for leaving a class before, and that was in Algebra 1 in like 8th grade. Everyone started laughing, I think it helps them stay awake. I got suspended for (I think) a day. To me, what's worse is those teachers that eat stuff all of the time and won't let me eat in class. I also hate when study hall teachers talk on the phone, while I'm not allowed to talk to my friend sitting 2 feet away from me. |

| Probably depends on the size of the class. If I'd feel really awkward leaving, I'd just sit on my iPad and play Puzzle Quest or browse MAL forums. But in those huge lecture classes, if I really feel like I'm not getting anything from it, yea, leave, preferably in a moment that doesn't seem too interruptive. Assuming I would not suffer a loss to my grade, that is, a lot of my smaller classes have participation as a fair percentage of the grade. Helitenks said: Fall asleep. Nothing's better than sleeping in class Reminds me of middle school. Wherein, everyday I would walk in, put the homework on my desk, and quite seriously fall asleep right there. The teacher didn't seem to do much about it, considering I was getting high 90s on all the tests, and she seemed to think that my asthma medication made me sleepy or something. I miss that, calculus is the unfun. |

| Back in high school we would do all kind of stuff to get time to pass, we asked to go to the toilet and went to the school cafeteria to eat and got back to the class 20 minutes later. We played the same arcade games and compete about who got the highest score. What was the most fun was trying to get each other to burst out in laugher and get kicked out of the class. Do stealth hit and run, we would sneak from the back of the classroom to someone at a desk close to the blackboard, the closer the better without the teacher noticing, slap a person in the back of the head and hurry back to our desk before the teacher saw us. If you got noticed and kicked out, you loose if you didn't get noticed you win. We where very childish I have to say, but was a lot of fun. |

| I would occasionally do things to liven up the classroom. This would normally end with my incarceration in a chair in the Principal's office. That ended in high school though, after being expelled from one school and transferred to another (again) I decided to focus on studying. Meaning, I would finish my work early and then go play Command & Conquer or Descent in the computer lab. |

| You are paying for courses in college, if you have a bad teacher demand to be withdrawn and changed into another equal course and also file a complaint against the teacher with the staff so he can be looked into. This is a product you're being given in exchange for cash when you're in university, it's a business, you don't take shitty service and ignore it or avoid it - you do something about it. Stop treating college like an easier-to-avoid version of high school. You should be there for an education, not "because I have to go but lol i'd rather play games during class". You aren't a child, and you shouldn't be wasting space in a uni if you aren't there to learn. |

Pretty much this with the exception you might not be bothered to actually file a complaint, like me, for whatever reason you have. In that case, you'll just make the effort of trying to learn through a boring teacher. Many times, it's not the teacher who's boring, but the subject at hand, or you not understanding anything of what's being explained. From personal experience, I find it curious that people who claim they don't pay attention in classes because they are way too boring, don't realize that it is often the other way around. Yeah, I suppose a complaint is only necessary if they are a legitimately bad educator in some serious way that hampers the ability to learn from them (and only if you care enough to bother) - not just 'boring' or 'uninteresting'. |

But they only make you do through high-school top-level math, science, and english, so it's not really an issue and you can push it off till your final year even. Albeit, yeah, that's a big problem because it's a waste of fucking time and money. I never said college is perfect, it's far from it in all sorts of ways, but there's no excuse to treat it as high school 2.0 either. Having to take an English course to fulfill your GERs doesn't somehow make it okay to play video games and fuck around texting people and shit during your ACTUAL courses. Not that YOU do, I mean in general. And just like anything in life, sometimes there are things required of you you don't like - but if you don't pass them you will not get what you're trying to get. So yes, you do have to take a FEW courses of shit you shouldn't have to, but need to pass in order to get your degree. If you can without paying attention or going to class - fine. But for your actual major related classes and electives? There's no reason to not take those and really try to learn in them. |

True, even I get annoyed when I see kids playing on cell phones in class or other things. For me though, its just hard to put effort into something that I feel is genuinely unnecessary, and it shows in my just passing grades. |
