From... Finland? Well, there's some Norse mythology thrown into Ah! My Goddess, and there's Katri, Girl of the Meadows, which is set in Finland. And Scandinavia in general is the setting for The Snow Queen. Finland just isn't a big subject in anime....

Or in media in general. It needs to be bigger. Finland is Winland, after all.

People in general might not find this impressive, but OP might, Strike Witches has Eila.

Old avatar and sig retired for now.

Can't think of any.
Though if you were looking for manga, Vinland Saga would be waving at you.

You might want to check out Diamond Daydreams (Kita e ~Diamond Dust Drops~).

One of the stories in this show is about a Finnish girl who is a world-class figure skater, Suomi Kitano. Her childhood friend, Hanna Janinen, is her chief rival. There a few brief scenes set in Finland, but most of the story takes place in Japan.

Diamond Daydreams is a collection of six short stories, so each story is only two episodes long, with a 13th episode that sort of ties them all together. It's a slow-paced, slice-of-life drama.

Doesn't take place in Finland AFAIK (Iceland and Britain, I think), but there are vikings. Also not an anime.

But yeah...there's a Finland character in Hetalia.

Darker Than Black has a fairly major character who's probably Finnish.

Edit: I need to read your post better, since you already mentioned it. Kirsi is a Finnish first name.

Unfortunately, they never speak in Finnish. It's entirely in Japanese. Finnish is a difficult language for the Japanese because it's so very different.

At one point I think Greenland was referred to as vineland or vinland. Kind of a marketing ploy to get people to go there.

I was wrong.

Kraken Isaac and Black Swan from Saint Seiya were both born in Finland. ...Hydra Ichi also trained in Lapland (and he also shows up in the newest series, Saint Seiya Omega).

Tsumugi Kotobuki's family in K-On! has a villa in Finland.

SAKO RK95 from Upotte! is from Finland, too.

Luviagelita Edelfelt from "Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya" is from Finland, and a descendant of the Edelfelt family (Albert Edelfelt was a very famous Finnish painter).

Santa Claus also shows up in Hayate no Gotoku.

@Nile2 Did you find anything in the end? I got so tempted to cosplay as Yin from Darker Than Black after I found out she has a Finnish background. :] It is a really nice country.

I heard apparently the maker of the 3DMG in AoT is Finnish?

Apologies for another necrobump. I've visited this thread multiple times over the years and watched a few suggestions from it; to me it's the archive of weeaboo/suomiaboo crossover material. I've been a low-tier suomiaboo myself, though I never went as far as my online friends who actually studied the language.

Some recent characters:

From Akiba's Trip, https://myanimelist.net/character/146658/Arisa_Ahokainen
"She is a half-Japanese transfer student from Finland." http://akibas.wikia.com/wiki/Arisa_Ahokainen
(Of course she's half - http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ButNotTooForeign )

The rest of these are from fantasy worlds but have noticeably Finnish names, because of course Finland is an alternate dimension.

From Chaika: The Coffin Princess, https://myanimelist.net/character/102451/Viivi_Holopainen

And I haven't seen Knight's & Magic, but I saw a remark from a Finn on Crunchyroll about Finnish names in the show. Looking at https://myanimelist.net/anime/34104/Knights___Magic/characters the surnames Kirjarinta and Hietakangas stand out to me.
