If you didn't figure it out by now Everything was about Sunako she is main vampire, she was denied life and still she thought as child : made new parrents and wanted to make a place with people who would accept her(trash vampires...) a place she would call home.

Overall i was surprised in good way didn't expect i would enjoy it but more i watched better it got.

Nice that badass Doctor Toshio survived.

Btw what's with all love for Natsuno? he was Emo all the way in every situation.

First, as much as I didn't like Megumi, I did not imagine such a horrible ending for her. I literally jumped when... well, you know. It was nice to see her final words circle back to the very beginning. Kinda makes you think, 'hmm, maybe she was right.'

Second, it bugged me how during the village uprise Natsuno was running around in the background all the time. Yeah, I guess he did quite a bit, but he was so up front until he "died" and then he practically dropped out of existence. At least he helped Kaori and Akira (or I assume that's how Akira survived). I do wish Natsu had some character growth. Yes, he had his handful of friends, but otherwise he pretty much admitted he really didn't give a shit all the way up until the end.

As for Seishin and Sunako... eh, I really don't hate the monk. I get him and the psychological end of things he represented. I think he went a little far, but at that point the village had gone to hell anyway.

Also, yay for Toshi surviving!

Overall impressions: Not how I expected things to play out, but pretty darn good... I think my heart's still palpitating.

Really good anime. Wish more shiki had survived. But what can you do. They had no problem killing people off from the start.

Natsuno was like another version of a bitchy twilight vampire, both pre and post vampire. Was really pulling for the incinerator.

So Muroi and Sunako lived, supposedly. I guess, they'll go to some other village and the cycle of destruction will just repeat again? That is kind of a very sad ending, but not really an ending since nothing 'ends' as such. They're just gonna begin the same thing again.

It's possible other groups of shiki exist somewhere else at the same time and the guy who made Sunako a shiki is still probably wandering around.

9/10 I suppose, a smart show with a decent ending. Felt like it cut off early and they could have had another episode or two though. We really don't find out what happens to anyone which is a tad disappointing.

I have a burning question after watching this anime...Did Sunako ever bite Muroi? He is shown in a weakened state in the mansion/castle after going there willingly, so is it OK to presume this happened? It's a small detail, but I would love some closure on it.

Only Tatsumi was shown to actually feed off of Muroi (re-watched this week) I thought for sure there was a scene where Sunako feeds off him in the basement hide-out but I guess I must have imagined it.

Though it could go either way for Sunako, she's only shown drinking blood from wine glasses in the series.

that's what they get for having a lil girl boss with lil brain. They are even planning of Expansion to the city, soon after a world domination. They started the killing, the war, and the villagers retaliates with hate and anger. I feel no pity for anything that initiates killing.

I really hate that the Monk "who has no will to live" managed to become an immortal werewolf WTF.

and I salute natsuno for understanding that "he's already dead" and the lady nurse.

Wow. This anime really surprised me. It started out so slow and tame that I thought it was going to be pretty relaxed but once the festival got started shit got real lol.

The depressing part about this to me wasn't so much that the Shiki were being slaughtered(I mean, really they set all of this into motion) but how far humans took things, even killing humans that weren't in their right minds or those who weren't even involved. It's depressing because I could totally see humans reacting like this if something similar were to happen in real life.

I mean, I wasn't a Megumi fan but damn. That was so brutal. Especially since she was acting more or less how she did before she died and not attacking anyone. I was actually pretty disappointed with how the Shiki didn't really fight back. I mean yeah they had a few moments but the humans were more or less in total control of the situation. Supernatural creatures like them shouldn't be easy prey for any human with a stake and a hammer.

As for my score, I'm in between a 7 or an 8. I mean the last couple of episodes were pretty great but the earlier ones had quite a few lapses in common sense that would make me just want to smack a character. Also, Natsuno really didn't leave that much of an impact on me despite being a main character.

This seemed to be one of those "who is the real monster," kind of stories. In the beginning I had nothing but hate for the Shiki. I could not feel sympathy for them in the slightest. Megumi's particularly selfish nature caused me to feel that the species were all simply merciless. My opinion started to change once the series started telling the Shiki's side. They likely didn't choose their fate. Many couldn't stop themselves from feeding and any who did would starve to death, the only positive result yielded was them preserving the bit of their humanity in not killing. This was at times overshadowed by Shiki who abused their new abilities. (Haha, Atsushi. You made me lol.) As the Shiki were revealed to the villagers they were hunted down rapidly. The humans grew cruel and bloodthirsty and tortured them, believing that they no longer had emotions. (I can't call the villagers actions unrealistic, which is somewhat horrifying.) Seishin's novel was the epitome of the Shiki; in the end the living and the Shiki were the same, killing to survive.

This anime is a heart wrenching beauty that I enjoyed completely. The only thing I believe Shiki lacked was more action. The last episodes were a marathon of murder, which does fit the story, but felt slightly lackluster. I would recommend this only to psychological fans who don't expect happy endings.

So... I suppose the point of the anime was to show that humans are the real monsters? Because they indeed are, nothing but violent monsters. I felt so bad for the shikis. Meh, the anime was quite good until the episode 17 or 18, after that it went downhill, the only redeeming factor is Seishin, easily the best character in the show, unlike his friend, Ozaki, who happens to be one of the worsts.

6/10.

I read a few of other people's comments and wow some wanted Sunako to die? XD
I was one of those who actually liked Sunako and actually sided with the Shiki xD Yeah that means I liked all the Shiki, especially Sunako xD I also like Muroi and Sunako ; I'm pretty sure I saw Muroi in the car and the suitcase is..? was daytime coming? XD /a little bit confused.
Just hoped they both survived and maybe go raid another village (partly joking)

This is the kind of anime you need to give a few episodes before dropping it. You'll find the characters are all dimensional and really bring the story to life. Personally, I thought Natsuno and Tohru's friendship was what made me seriously addicted to this show. You couldn't have asked for a better main character. I also admired Akira for not wanting to stand back and watch everything go to hell. It really angered me when Seishin decided to be on the Shiki's side, but I realized soon that it was inevitable. I'd say this anime really tested the importance between love and survival, and the truly horrifying reality of succumbing to our weaknesses.

I think this anime was pretty interesting. They did a good job of switching the roles of vampires and humans. In the first half I was like "You guys aren't even trying to put up a fight! BAH!" Then towards the end when the vampires were getting massacred I was like "man, I kinda feel bad for those guys.." It was also interesting to see all the different characters, how they weren't just side characters. I had originally thought that Natsuno was going to be the main character.

On a side note- If they only drink about 2 cups of coffee worth of blood, couldn't the vampires have just randomly fed, letting the victims recover? Then they wouldn't be killing anyone and they could have lived in a town. Not just feeling sorry for themselves saying "they have to feed to live" and causing all this trouble. But whatev.

This anime felt like a waste of time to me in the end. I liked Natsuno and the doctor, although the latter certainly crossed the 'bit insane' border at a point. Still, I understand their motivations, unlike that infuriating junior monk. Seriously, why would he save the girl shiki in the end when she was ready to die and put an end to all the madness? I really wanted her gone for being such a coward and thinking draining humans was something the shiki were forced into. And she wanted to create a family of shiki to play house with in this village? Uh, so would they have gone all the way to the next village/town to hunt then? There were so many things that confused me, but to be fair these points were pretty much even between the shiki and the humans.

This anime failed to grasp at me mainly because I really can't feel sympathy for anyone who would kill friends and family, or other people you've known all your life, to survive.

It's taken me awhile to find this anime. I've suffered through boat loads of trash to find this gem.

Regarding the message of the story: I do NOT think it was to show that humans were the actual monsters and shiki were the "victims". That would be COMPLETELY lacking in depth.

As many others have mentioned before me, this was a showdown between two species: a fight for survival. The anime Shiki mirrors the real world. Killing isn't going to stop for whatever reason a group needs to kill, or as my history professor would say "They ain't gonna just hold hands and eat cupcakes" because that's not realistic. Nearly everyone will come up with some sort of justification for what they do (ie, the humans kill to keep their traditions / the shiki kill to eat. The humans didn't ask to be preyed upon / the shiki didn't ask to be vampires. How can you say that you sympathize with one more than the other?).

I liked how Shiki takes turns giving both species a perspective that makes the audience see them differently. In the beginning, a majority of us would take the side of the humans. In the end, a portion of people are willing to take the side of the shiki. You can apply this technique to the real world. Think about a certain group or culture you particularly hate for what they do. Imagine them as the shiki at the end of this anime. Are you sure of your opinion now? THAT is the message that was being conveyed (in my opinion, anyway. You can say I'm totally wrong).

Other: I loved the ending scene with Yuuki's father on the bus with Kaori and her brother (who I thought was dead up until the last episode). It made me feel a glimmer of happiness that the village was not totally wiped out.

What a "classic" way to end a horror story. I like my lolicons to fit inside a box. They're gonna breed again then there will be Shiki 2: Breed Harder. I was waiting for sunako to go nippah~

+ No main character. Both sides of the story is told.
- Made one of the most annoying character you'll ever see.
+ Dynamic OP and ED themes.
+ No fillers and cheap fanservices.
- Random character designs. eg. some have dot eyes, some have bowling ball eyes. no unity. Questionable hair/mustache styles
+ Scenes that will creep you out.
+ Date and name labels. It really helped out!
- Sotoba got no internet, no cellphones. BULLSHIT.

And this is now finished. I liked the overall storyline. From the start I was with the shiki and I didn't like the way it finished. I was happy that both Sunako and Muroi were saved. But it was awfully convenient that Muroi got turned into jinrou although I felt so happy when that bastard gramps died...I never liked him.I would also like if Toshio had died or best the whole village but....About Natsuno and Tatsumi, I felt bad for Tatsumi as for Natsuno...idc.
P.S Megumi was the funniest in the series for me too bad she got killed...

Ooookay so I just finished this series after starting is so long ago >.< In the beggining, I was totally unsure about the show, and I didn't really like the art style. But as I watched on, I realized that they did that on purpose- like how Megumi is always ranting about how strange everyone is...

Towards the end I started crying almost at every point in the show... The humans went way too far, even killing their own just because they were bitten or didn't know something. The 20.5 episode was horrifying(the one where they dragged everyone out of the cellars).

But all in all, I really loved the show. I breathed a huge sigh of relief when I saw Muroi-Chan-San and Boxnako drive away! If I hadn't seen that I would probably have been depressed forever.

Ohh and also to answer the question about how the fire started if you watch episode 21.5 about Motoko (blue hair curl top woman) goes insane, she burns herslef and her fathers house in Yamairi.

Wow, I said way too much^^;

Late to the party but Megumi's death was far less brutal then some of the others, both mentally and physically. Her arm was crushed and was still focused on ranting, head was squashed and was staked quickly quickly after. Her getting bumped by a few trackers hardly dazed her until she was pinned. Just saying, I'm surprised from reading how many people found her death to so be so "epically brutal" after seeing some of the other deaths during the hunt.

In any case, one of the better vampire shows and one of the better horror shows as well. However, I am some what disappointed in the ending. I did like how the village burnt down as I felt it was appropriate. A horrible tragedy cleansed by fire. I expected the Doctor to be much more hollowed after the ordeal but we didn't get much insight into him and he seem rather content despite loosing the town in the end.

Honestly, Muroi and Sunako driving off in the end was the worst part. They should of died together in the fire instead of emphasizing that their existence is justified. But, I guess it was more appropriate to end it with a message like "the struggle will continue" rather than "the human's won".

This was amazing--except for that last scene. If Sunako died in the burning church, the ending would have much more impact and meaning, and that last scene with them both escaping pretty much ruined it. Nonetheless, a great epilogue. I didn’t like this anime too much in the first couple episodes, but it really picked up around the 10th episode mark. Then it was just awesomeness after awesomeness. I actually rooted for both sides, having favourite characters in both "teams" - can’t say this happened to me in many other animes, or stories in general. Seeing the brutality of people in the last couple of episodes (especially the 20.5 special, damn), coupled with the philosophical questions raised, made both sides equally likeable to me, since neither of them was clearly right or wrong.

Overall an 8/10 from me. :)

Yeah I mean I still don't like her, but what she said made sense in terms of shiki vs. humans, or he theme of not understanding each other, being more open minded, something like that.

And what, I was no expecting Seishin to become a jinrou...scratch everything I said in the last episode discussion thread. In the end, we still don't get to understand Seishin. I wish he and Sunako died though. Especially Sunako, not because I dislike her, but it's better for her. After all, she wanted to die and gave up on herself. She probably doesn't want to kill people anymore to live, so why keep her alive when she doesn't want to be? Anyways, she's lived way longer than anymore. Also, Natsuno and his sacrifice. I like that he's not on the side of justice or anything, that the only reason he wanted to destroy all the shiki is because he didn't like them. His mindset is completely different from the rest. He believed himself to be dead whereas the others didn't and wanted to keep on living. Which reminds me, it was sad when he just stood in front of the fire while staring at Tohru's dead body :( he didn't even get to say good bye one final time.

Overall, this was a exciting ride. It's sad, what Ozaki said at the end. That they tried to save the village, but it burned down, making everything that they did, it was all for nothing. Probably mother nature telling them that they went about it the wrong way. No one wins, and everyone became a monster :/
