Strange though, from the teacher's point of view. Its as if they don't consider the fact that their career will be over once they're discovered. 'Love' is a strange thing.

The human mind is a strange thing ... When overloaded with stress, it starts shutting off common sense and the abiloty to read expressions and actions ... Im guessing teachers are just stresses over life in general and wants something refreshing ...

Had a teacher in my school who was dating a senior .. He got "asked to leave" even though shes the one who asked him to date and was 18 ... That damn bi*ch, i knew the teacher really well, and he was a cool, nice person

Some people lose all reasoning when lust is involved.

the girl was probably ignorant, but the teacher had no excuses. he should have known better than to get into a relationship with a student.

Although i agree with the fact that parents are letting their kids dress like tarts these days, I doubt that's the cause of it. A lot of these teachers have mental issues that go unnoticed. And kids are, well. Naive.

Which is bloody scary. I'm well aware that there is a general shortage in teachers these days, but I think greater measures need to be taken to ensure that would-be teachers are mentally up the task.

There have always been teacher student relationships. It just gets reported more often these days because a lot of students either don't want the relationship but feel comfortable enough to tell school councilors (which there are a lot more of these days), or because they're stupid and let it slip to the wrong person when they want to be in one, and then a parent is informed somehow, and everything goes to shit.

I think it's a bit like any other part of the news world. Why do we hear so much more about anything? Because we're more connected than we used to be, even just ten years ago.

That besides the fact, there were a lot of teacher student relationships when I was in school when I was younger and if the student didn't feel weird about it, it was never told out in the open. Was shared with friends or peers that were trusted and that was it. Most of them didn't come out until a couple years after graduation. Happened like that with two people I knew, along with a whole slew of people I didn't know about, especially if they were still dating.

I doubt that it's increased. It's more so that we just find out about it more often. Especially with all the technology we have nowadays.

i think it has increased. especially with the rise of social media like facebook. a lot of teachers are always facing this dilemma whether they should be friends with their students on fb.

social media tools like fb can be a double edged sword. it can be an educational tool or a 'dangerous' tool. in cases like this, i think it tends to lean towards the latter

So many of these cases are popping up in the news lately, and as an aspiring teacher I can't help but feel disgusted. This is the latest one featuring in British news. Why do you think this is happening so much lately?

I just think its just make the news more than usual, not a higher frequency of occurrence. Some of that stuff was probably more accepted back then or maybe there was a don't ask don't tell policy regarding student teacher sexual relations or a combination of the two.

Assuming you mean university student x high-school student, still a bad idea. If you're practicing to become a teacher, you shouldn't be hitting on students, even if you're only 3-4 years older.

T.A x university student on the other hand (maybe this is what you actually meant), isn't such a big deal. It's still unprofessional (because the t.a's grade assignments and papers), but by the time you're in university who you get involved with is your own business. I actually know several people that have hooked up with their T.A's, lol.

There's no rise in it--there's just more coverage of sensational topics like that. It was always there, but now the story spreads past that particular town. It's such a rare occurrence that it shouldn't affect anyone. Just know how to handle it. I teach at the college level and a few students have given me some weird, inappropriate vibes. Not reacting to it or acknowledging it while distancing yourself personally works well. Like any other unwanted approach.

Hm. I had a friend in high school. She's very pretty and her intelligence is average. There were suitors who gave her stuffs she wanted and needed but in the end, she dated our Trigo professor who was engaged by that time.

Well she had problems about this and resorted on opening up to us after 3 years. We found out that these kinds of relationship is her "type". And I have an acquaintance right now who's experiencing the same dilemma.

What comes up in my mind regarding student-teacher relationships is that:
- Maybe the student wanted a little thrill
- Psychological problems
- ..Perhaps professors are his/er type

I don't really have anything against student-teacher relationship to be honest, as long as they leave academics and benefits out of it. o n o )

Haven't really been in any schools that had these student-teacher affairs but in my eyes they're just plain messed up.

Why are we having more lately? Perhaps because we're getting more perverted as a society? I honestly do not know.

I haven't really seen nor heard one but most probably ethical and moral codes are highly at question. But then again people shouldn't worry much as long as they see that they have marriage as their goal which is most unlikely.
