Good day Jack, or night depending on when you look at this,
Me and a now regular IRC visitor, Duckonator, or Daconator, as he was known before have created a club in order to make MAL a lot more interesting; the Masonry club, we will hold various discussions here on various topics, which can include whatever you desire. It is open discussion themed, so you can jump in whenever you want, later we might add debates which will be 1v1. This is only speculation. So, would you care to join? And possibly invite other members?
Lol, not at all. I just wanted to watch a few more episodes before getting back to you :) I've seen 4 now, and I have to say, I think they made really good choices in terms of voice actors and music. Alice's chibi face is so funny in animation hahaha. It doesn't seem as atmospheric or magical as the manga though, but its still very good watching. I'm going to download the soundtrack at some point, I MUST have it.
I can see why the character Ai has been built upon, but I can't say I like how she's become Akari's email correspondent. This wasn't so in the manga, and I waaay prefer who it turned out to be in the manga (it was only revealed in the last chapter I think, or one of the last ones). Its takes away a lot of the cuteness in the story in changing the correspondent to Ai, but there have already been several changes from the manga which work nicely, so I have a feeling the story will still work out well :)
I can't wait to see how all the King of the Cat scenes have been done, they were wonderful in the manga :O
Oh god, I indeed do have work to do, and whilst I have for the first time actually achieved something over the weekend (completing a computer programming Python assignment), I have yet again not done the work I set out to do. I have a lab report that I've wasted the first week of two not doing, and I have the usual weekly problems that seem to take ages nowadays.
But I couldn't just let his post slide could I? He insulted my friend and everything...
Well, guess my I just have to give up on having free time this week then...
What if there is a religion out there, (perhaps it is only believed by a single person in the entire world!), in which the core belief was that there is an omnipotent God who created all forms of life for no purpose whatsoever. Whether it was for pure entertainment, or perhaps He created life on a whim, all life created is meaningless. In this case, all things would be meaningless. In fact, worshiping this God would be meaningless.
A thing has a function only if it has a purpose. Therefore, if this religion exists, nothing has a purpose, and therefore nothing has a function, including this God as well as the religion itself.
This may seem funny, but in order to disprove your point about religion needing a function, the only thing I have to do is create a situation in which it doesn't have a function, even if the situation seems ridiculous.
We honestly don't disagree so far on much of anything. We both believe that a religion can be defined as a set of beliefs regarding the existence of a God, gods, or whatever, and that religious groups use religion as a function.
In your post you said, "...but there are two ways (well, maybe 3) to define/identify anything" and then you proceeded to mention function as one of the ways. Religion cannot be defined by function, since the idea of religion itself does not have a function.
However, I understand what you mean when you say it helps to define religion when we look at how religious groups use it for their own purposes.
