Favorite OPs would have to be:
Naruto Shippuden (Bluebird, don't remember which opening, but it's the one where he's falling through the sky through the whole thing)
RahXephon (Hemisphere. Written by Youko Kanno, I believe, so extra points for that)
Itazura na Kiss (Kimi, Meguru, Boku. Which is strange, because I think the show in itself kinda sucked, but it had an incredible OP none the less)
Baccano! (Guns 'n' Roses. THIS song is incredible regardless of whether you've seen the show. It's essentially a bunch of jazz instruments having an orgy inside your ears and it's awesome)
Naruto (Whatever the Very first one is. The only reason why is cuz I used to watch it as a kid, so it's got a lot of precious memories. And hey, it was simple, but awesome. Oh,the Dub version, not the Sub, since apparently they were different or something)
Eureka 7 (#1, Days, and #2, Shounen Heart. Seriously, these songs were awesome, even if the show itself was annoying)
Steins;Gate (Hacking to the Gate. Just pure awesome to go with an incredible show)
As for EDs, I have a few of those as well:
Sankarea (Above Your Hand. For a really weird rom/com about zombies, the ED is surprisingly sublime and ambient, really peaceful and awe-inspiring)
Clannad (Dango Daikazoku. This is a very strange one, since it starts out sounding like the theme song to a Japanese daytime cartoon for kids. BUT, it becomes incredibly epic towards the end, and the words and animations that go along with it heavily support the theme of the overall show, even in a very childish way, which I think personally represents Nagisa, as she's pretty childish in most ways, and it's kind of also her theme)
FMA: Brotherhood (#1, Uso. Nuff said. Pretty awesome stuff)
Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien (Hoshizora no Walts. This song is one of my favorites of all time out of any song. It is absolutely beautiful in every way possible and also sounds kinda sad at the same time, with a bit of longing and hope infused into it, which I feel is how the show always kinda had me feeling)
RahXephon (Yume no Tamago. Why it's named the "dream egg" I'll never know, but either way, this song is quite literally out of this world. It will make you fall asleep because it is that mesmerizing. Strange, mysterious, soul pounding, and just absolutely sublime)
School Rumble (First season ED. I have no idea, but this weird, stupid, wacky song just makes me smile. I just really like the interesting melody lines and chord progressions, and for some reason it makes me feel really nostalgic, but hey, whatever)
I agree, watching anime is a great way to find new music. I've got tons of soundtracks on my iPod now from anime, and quite a few single tracks I've picked out here and there. Good stuff. |
