This is weird series once more....
it has some really nice moments, than add some creepy-disgusting stuff followed by some new nice ones
but still I like character design (it looks old) and VA

plus fetish for everyone!

and if they would become married he has no life with Urabe drool-power (or it may mean that his dreams are her's reality who knows :P )

This become better and better every episode I see <3

Urabe was so sexy in this episode and weird at same time, I was almost drooling myself because she was so hot :)

Looks like she can see what others peoples thinking by taking them drool and taste it.

5/5 best so far :D

Great ep. Loving this show lol.

It's very.. unique in terms of relationships lol.

This is definitely an anime I'm going to want to archive when the bluray version comes out.

Also, I'm pretty sure this is going to get a second season lol. It's getting a lot of people talking in various jap sites. That, and it looks like each ep = 1-1.5 chapters. Each chapter has over 40 pages and there's a lot of content to animate.

Soo looking forward to this lol.

And yea, their drool is their special bond as someone said earlier. It lets them feel the other persons feelings/thoughts which is pretty interesting.

Basically.. it's magic!

Wow amazing episode. This By far the must faithful adaptation this season. I'm in love with Yoshitani's voice as Urabe; shes just soo fitting! The animation really captures Urabe's scissor-action quit beautifully. The only real complaint I have is the inevitable dark shadow-censorship. Its not really too heavy but still annoying- All the more reason to watch the blu-ray when it comes out! 5/5

Oh wow the second episode didn't disappoint at all. The drool thing is pretty gross but the rest of the anime is so weirdly compelling that I find myself not caring. This is such an unconventional romance that I am loving watching it unfold.

Urabe is one bizarre chick and it's impossible to predict what she is going to reveal next. I wonder if there is some trauma in her past that makes her so adverse to contact like hand holding. Although a bit extreme her reaction to being suddenly grabbed is a bit more understandable. Still I have the feeling that keeping something that can be a weapon so close to an intimate area and her extreme reactions to contact mean something happened to her in the past. I think there is more to it than just her usual bizarre behavior or at least that's my guess.

Although the drool thing is off putt I really liked he way the "special" drool scene was shot. The colors of the fading sun, the dirty room and the clever use of lighting to silhouette her body all made for a scene that revealed much but showed little. I feel like it took what could have been a very trashy scene and made it tasteful. This show isn't about the echhi. Instead it uses the ecchi to say something about the characters or at least I hope that is what it continues to do. Urabe is looking for a thrill in this scene but she is doing in tightly controlled circumstances. She is the kind of character that needs to be in control of her situation and her relationship. Which again leads me to wonder if there is something her past that is making her this way. She's always had the upper hand in her relationship with Akira and every time he tries to take the initiative she always manages to take it back from him.

She is this weird combination of risque and prudish that makes for an interesting contrast in her character. I am looking forward to more of this.

4 out of 5

Note: I don't know anything about the manga so any predictions are just based on what I've seen from the anime.

In a lot of ways I like this unconventional take on ecchi. The characters are interesting and the art style is fantastic. I like seeing what's coming next, even though I can't deny finding the drool thing pretty gross. I understand that it's supposed to be weird, and I can pretty easily see how someone would find sharing an unconventional bodily fluid sexy, but I still don't really want to see.

Still, I can accept the drool. I can accept that Tsubaki is willing to go along with all this. I can accept that Urabe is psychic or something. What I can't accept is those random flashes of the ants eating a bug during the special drool scene. What in the world was that? An unneeded reminder that they're outside? Just that determined to kill the moment even for those that might be into drool? I don't get it... If someone can explain how those shots helped the scene I'd love to hear it.

seriously? the all-black looks really stupid and doesnt work in any way with all the sunlight that's coming into that room. looks better in the manga

I thought the silhouette was a great modification from the manga! It makes it sexy, allows them to show more detail, while showing less at the same time. Brilliant!
See the spoiler for a link to the manga page. (Not going to hot-link a nude, sorry!)

The question im asking is why did she strip just to give him some drool? Meh pretty good episode though i love how Tsubaki ask his friend relationship stuff in reverse haha pretty funny.

She wanted to prove to him that he is her boyfriend and very special to her. To do this, she aroused herself by stripping in front of him, with the possibility of him opening his eyes. That doesn’t seem odd, especially in comparison to the rest of the story!

true - if i remember correctly, in the manga they went to urabe's house and she did go "down there" - guess the censors scared the animators from going in that direction - too bad, but i still think they did a good job with the way they did it despite their limitations...damn the censors of the world!!!

No, she didn’t get it from “somewhere” else in the manga, though I remember thinking that she might have when I read it, it was not indicated in the images. They also didn’t go to her house, but exactly the abandoned building they went to in the manga.

Let’s keep the discussion about this episode, not the manga further on. Discussions of the manga that this episode covers are one thing, but even in spoiler blocks it isn’t a good idea, and the thread rules ask us not to… Though I had a whole response ready to post about the topic… :)

I think it shows the passing of time during the scene, showing us how the whole moment was quite long despite the few minutes we saw.

This show uses a lot of unconventional imagery to represent sexuality but no matter how much I think about I can't come up with a clear explanation for this part of the scene.

The ants are stripping down a beetle as Urabe is stripping down and preparing the special drool. Maybe it's meant to convey vulnerability. In this scene Urabe has rendered herself vulnerable by stripping before Akira and all he has to do is open his eyes a little to see her nude. Maybe it's meant to represent Urabe's state of mind at the time. She is both excited and scared to be in such a compromising position where she is right on the edge of being seen.

I'm not really totally satisfied with that though. I'm sure there is something I'm missing but I'm sure that part of the scene has some symbolic meaning that is connected to the aberrant sexuality of what is going on there.

Ah well I was writing that someone comes up with a very simple explanation that does make sense. I believe there was a deeper meaning to it than that but it's possible that bugs served multiple purposes and that was one of them.

I think it shows the passing of time during the scene, showing us how the whole moment was quite long despite the few minutes we saw.

It certainly has to do with passage of time - and the scene was either sort of a timer for everything that was happening (as aforementioned), or its purpose was to show how emotions can bend and change our perception of time. I can't think of any other rational explanation.

As for the episode - 5/5. I'm not even sure why - despite all its flaws and drawbacks, I can't help but love this show thoroughly. And goodness me, Mikoto's voice is something to behold - it sure has been a while since I heard a voice so natural, and yet so mesmerizing.

Actually her taking off her clothes was to stimulate herself just so her drool could be stimulated. Some girls like the feeling of having a little power and getting caught. Dude's a trooper for keeping his eye closed.

I think she's an alien of some sort.

Story is really interesting and although I'm not a big fan of the art, everything else fits perfectly. Especially Ayako's voice.

Also, I love the taste of fresh drool, but when it's been sitting on a desk or left on a finger? Gross. I can just imagine the smell whenever it gets depicted.

Alright, I'll buy it. No offense to Marius2005, but these seem like the right of it. So yeah, not pointless, but... well, do you really think it was a good idea? There's other ways to show passage of time, like the motion of the sun in the window. I guess this comes back to what Marius said about being unconventional, but it seems like such cheap shock value. For me, at least, it really killed the mood.

Enjoying this a lot. I had already been reading the manga and knew I had to watch this if only to see the panty scissors actually animated. It was worth it. I can't remember the last time a new chapter came out either, so this is at least a good substitute. Looking forward to the next episode - hopefully they can get most of what I've read into these 13 eps.

Upon further though my explanation was a bit of stretch where I was assuming too much. I think they other two posters were correct in saying it was being used to mark the passage of time. I especially agree with what Blackiris that it was meant to show the characters' perception of time being bent by the powerful emotions being experienced (in this case arousal).

As for using the ants taking apart a dead beetle being an appropriate way of showing it well that's kind of up to an individual's taste. It obviously didn't work for you but after I got the metaphor I don't have a problem with it being shown this way. True, there were other ways to show it but maybe there was a reason to bring death and deconstruction into this study of aberrant sexuality. I don't want to believe that the anime was just being unconventional just for the sake of it and I really hope it wasn't meant to just be shocking but I could be wrong.

I think the unconventional metaphors and imagery are what makes this show so enjoyable for me. I love these little bits of symbolism that can have multiple meanings to debate amongst ourselves. This particular example may not have been the best but there are plenty of other places where the imagery has been used to much greater and clearer effect.

This show is mysteriously interesting in a whole lot of ways. It's both utterly strange and seemingly impossible to watch due to the original "drool" concept but so exceptionally well directed while developing two so very touching main characters that in the end, we're pretty much forced to like this series.
