THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE GON. <3
He's so amazing and beautiful and inspiring and just plain awesome. I love him so much.

I really feel bad for that servant though; I always love that kind of character that's bad but has feelings too. They usually die though D;
And it looks like Killua and that girl had a past... ;) Lawlz, probably not THAT kinda past but you get the idea :P

So yeah, I cannot wait for the next episode. And I totally think that message is a fake. No way that Killua wouldn't want to see Gon. I just hope that he still sees Gon as a friend by the time that Gon gets to see him! And I know he will <3
I just hope that the show isn't going to pull a Sasuke and make them rivals forever. I already had enough heartbreak in Naruto xDD

Can't wait~! Hunter x Hunter is really getting better every single week. I'm loving it so much and I'm totally gonna watch the first season soon :D

I don't think the message was fake. It sounds like something Killua would genuinely say in that kind of situation. Poor servant...

This sucked...Leorio was supposed to open the gate by himself. His only time to shine and it's thrown out the window...are you kidding me?

Othar than that, all is good.

Feel sorry for the servant. I figured everybody serving the Zoldycks would be mindless robots, and that Gon would have to actually defeat them with brute force. Guess I was wrong. Stupid that they would just dispose of him like that and yet not take out Gon and his friends while they were defenseless.

Pretty amazing how far his perseverance has gotten him. Come to think of it, he does this with practically all of his enemies, getting beat up by them until they give up. Or dodging them if possible. Wonder if Gon will actually use brute force one day.

They skipped a lot of scenes in the training :/ Is it just me or is this really rushed? Because the 1999 version seemed to have been around more 10 episodes in this part.. or maybe they were taking their own sweet time.. idk xD

Next episode... a flash back?

I don't mind all this rushing. Though I hope do start slowing down once they reach where the original left off.

Omg Gon and Killua are just too adorable. Their friendship is just too adorable for me to handle!!

I really liked the BG that was playing at the end of the episode when the servant was crying, and that whole scene actually made me cry a bit. Oh poor servant. Saw it coming the second Killua walked past saying he made a friend.

I'm actually glad they skipped the training. I've never seen the original one or read the manga, but I much rather watch Gon reunite with Killua then 10 episodes of them training.

It's not 10 episode of training, it only take an episode in the original >.<
I am watching the original and the new, and I can say the newest is the best. Also, the equivalent of this episode in the original is episode 33 and 34...

For those of you who thought the part with Canarie (line girl, butler's apprentice whatever you want to call her) was rushed, that is pretty much how the scene went down in the manga, it obviously didn't go down exactly the same but this version was more correct than the original. However, I will agree that the original version gave that scene much more emotion and a greater impact than this one did. Either way, the only complaint I have is that Leorio didn't get to open the testing gate on his own.

Don't you think that's because you've seen that one first? I really wonder what I'll think of the old version when I finally get around to watching it. Anyway, I thought that part was handled well.

I wonder why'd they change that. Poor Leorio, didn't get to shine. Again. Well, he is Kuwabara of HxH, but still, at least give him some early wins dammit.

The fact they open the gate all together is just here to show their strong bond. They trained together, from the beginning, it's all about teamwork. They came together to save Killua so they're opening the gate together.
Very good episode, I love how Gon stubornness won over brute force once again.

I remember that in the old version Leorio opens the second gate too... But i just read the manga and he only opens the first one while Kurapika and Gon watch.
I don't really read manga, but they changed the scene so I wanted to see which of the 2 was the original and it seems neither the old or the new version are faithful to the manga.
Don't really understand what's the point in changing those little details.

Actually, Leorio opens two gates in the manga, too, but it's easy to miss since it's only mentioned in dialogue. The scene you described seems to take place after two weeks of training, but at the beginning of the next chapter, Zebro mentions that they all managed to pass the test after 20 days and Leorio even managed to open two gates. So Leorio probably was the first one to become strong enough to open the gate, and they kept training until Kurapika and Gon were able to do the same.

I just noticed, that Kalluto is the next victim, of this horrendous artstyle.
In the original, his appearance was kinda disturbing and a perfect example, of how twisted and dark the Zoldyck family is.
Here.....he's just some kid. Great.

And I don't mind, they spent so much time with the training, but changing it from: "everyone manages the first gate alone, Leorio even managed two" to: "barely made it as a group", just sucks. It shows how much this got shounen'ed and kinda contradicts...

Very cute.

First I've never said ANYTHING about "seriousness".
And Kalluto's original design is far from "emo".

If you can't distinguish the deep style of Togashi's, from this generics, you're better off with this adaption anyway.

Lmao...
The 1999 didn't even make the effort to follow togashi's style as this one. Plotholes x plotholes. Making everything emo is soooo deep.

If you re-read HxH, the world starts slightly dark, and then grows darker and darker. That's how togashi wanted it, that's how the manga did it, that's how the 2011v is doing it.
In the 1999 Killua's character is so inconsistent I don't even know where to start. He isn't all dark, he's the kindest of the 4 main characters, despite his upbringing. He's more complicated than a "dark kid who will kill anyone in his way" THAT's...generic.

This episode was OK, but some thing just not right here.
Why they must pushing the door together? In Manga everyone can do it alone, even Leorio can do it to the 2nd Level.

Also some plothole found here:
Why the door doesn't closed immediately after it opened and Gon falling? Instead it just stuck there? Well, well you're not doing it right Madhouse.

But, anyway this Remake version is really promising. Look at this screenshot:

Even Killua and Alluka are holding hands, wow so sweet :) And lol at least now we know the silhouette of Killlua's Grandmother(?)

Brilliant ep.

I though I was missing something when I saw the silouhet beside Killua?
Is it a grandmother? Maybe or maybe not, but maybe this is a spoiler manga readers have yet to uncover (unless I missed something) - looks too much like Netero and to be frank, I'm not ruling out him being related to the family, as we never know?

Good to see Killua's screwball mother and the sweetheart butler Canary make an appearance.

None of that sounds right. :D
I was going to mention the constant use of giant cheasts on teen in anime, but really? Many young teens are developed, but what are they expected to look like? Even a lady with a large chest isn't likely to have one as 'defined' as the anime female's we're use to seeing - plus, non-feminen uniform.

So, they must release the Full Power + Gon's help to open the door, but only need a little effort (as it seems) to retrain the door? That's kinda weird

That's obviously a glitch and it doesn't make sense at all to be able to retain a gate of 2 tons weight easily like that without pushing it or applying too much of a force on it. The gate was supposed to close immediately after few seconds and that never happened.

The guard still said the door will close after a few seconds, they never said anything about real life physics, besides that if they allready had a problem keeping the door open before it closed again, how the f*** can they keep it from closing then.

Besides that in my opinion the old version is better, even though it got dragged out a bit, this one is much more a generic shounen, the old one was waaaaay darker, it felt more like a seinen then a shounen. And no I don't care about the censoring, but it is kinda getting ridiculous how hard this show gets censored.

Oh goodness, people. Get over the stupid gate.

I thought this episode balanced the training, gate opening and Canary very well. I don't recall how many episodes that took in the original anime, but I do remember it dragging, so I would consider this an improvement, especially since it seems like we're getting the background to her softness. Yeah, we don't get into her character as much (which I might regret later, I guess), but she's not a key character and so far only appears a couple times, so I'm cool with that.

I loved the silhouettes of the Zoldyk family - there are some members even the manga has yet to meet, so I'm wondering if these are animators' projections or if Togashi gave them character sketches to base the shapes off of. Time will tell!
