Hai.

Seeing the very high score and rave reviews I got interested in watching this. My questions mainly are about the relations between S;G and C;H. I know many people think C;H was "shit", but if it has any importance regarding my understanding of S;G, I'm going to watch it no matter how shitty it is, lol.

So... in which way are they related? Watching ChäoS;HEAd before Steins;Gate will help me to understand S;G better?

The visual novels they're based on were made by the same people and Steins Gate takes place a year after what happened in Chaos Head. But (at least in the anime versions) you don't need to have seen one to view the other.

Same universe, same "time and setting"

Chaos;Head happens in Shibuya, and the events happens 1 year before
Steins;Gate happens in Akihabara
The next sequel Robotic;Notes happens in Tanegashima Island.

The relations beside Nitro+ and the same team, is they all live in the same world.

who knows that maybe they'll do a massive story combining all the elements of all the stories lol.

C;H = Delusions
S;G = Time Travel
R;N = Robots

That's not the ONLY relation. They are both in the 5pb. Science Adventure series, and as such they take place in the same "universe" (although the meaning of that is clouded due to Steins;Gate's constant world line shifts). The events of Chaos;Head are consistent with the events of Steins;Gate in divergences between 0.523299% and 1.130426% inclusive.

In episode 4 of Steins;Gate, Daru mentions someone named "Knight Hart" which is the online persona of Chaos;Head's protagonist Nishijou Takumi. He is looking for the IBN 5100 and this is explored further in Steins;Gate 8-Bit.

Apparently I've also heard there was a one-shot crossover in which Sena from Chaos;Head coincidentally encounters Okabe Rintarou some time between the events of C;H and S;G.

Beyond that, the actual stories of each are unrelated, although Robotics;Notes may establish a closer relationship between the two stories, because supposedly the "Illuminati" or the "Committee of 300" are pulling the strings behind all the major events in the Science Adventure series.

I hope that Okabe will have some reference in R;N. Maybe he eventually joined the Committee in Steins;Gate Worldline... Who knows what crazy stuff this insane mad scientist was planning all the time. XD

Just to confirm, if you're thinking about watching S;G when you need to watch C;H first, that's not needed. C;H just had bad pacing and ended up somewhere too quick. S;G is a better successor as it had time to expand the story for 24 episodes.

Now, I'm just interested what R;N would be like. For the time being, I'm going to probably rewatch S;G to understand the things I didn't get to before. :P

That's a gross simplification of events though. Steins;Gate's story revolves more about personal motivations rather than grand "save the world" schemes. Steins;Gate's protagonist, while constantly deluding himself, is also not a selfish and disgusting prick like Takumi was.

If you think that's what Steins;Gate was about, you missed the point entirely.

Really? Cuz I'm literally forcing myself to watch Chaos Head just because I thought it would help me understand Steins Gate better.

It won't at all. Chaos;Head sucked (although I kind of liked it personally), and the only good you will get out of it in relation to Steins;Gate is the consideration of the fact that they take place in the same universe.

And that Knight Hart (Takumi) was mentioned at one point, but it was only to drive home the point of how rare the IBN5100 was.

Nitro+ did almost nothing for this serie's creation, other than digital support.

Anyway, Chaos;Head has completely different story from Steins;Gate. They share same world, but nope. That's about it.

and how they mention delusions that was explained in Chaos;Head. Only for a few minutes or so.

Robotics;Notes is actually more than just about robots. It goes into the concept of augmented reality. It's not so much that one series explains the other better. The three series are related to each other according to their unified theme, which explore how one person perceives and takes control of his or her own reality.

The point OF THIS THREAD is how the two can be related. Which in my view are very small things like that story point and other things like D-mail and D-sword which if you want to can see them as nothing more then fun "coincidences".

... >_> That's far from point of this thread. That's just either bias or stupidity.

I strongly recommend avoiding the SUFFER of watching C;H anime, seriously =/.
Read the VN, there's a good translation, and it's worth your time, believe me.

what she said... and just want to point this out, Chaos; Head Visual Novel is much, MUCH!!! better than the anime since it didn't cover up any gore scene in it while in the anime it's modified a bit to fit with family kinda thing

and it put much more dark atmosphere than the anime, the "eating" part especially

Yo!

Today I've started watching Steins;Gate (Yes, I'm VERY late with discovering this anime). I'm already two episodes in and I'm loving it so far. However, the synopsis of it said that it takes place 1 year after the events of Chaos;Head. Now is it necessary to still watch Chaos;Head before S;G in order to completely understand all events that happen in S;G? Or are they more like two separated storylines? I really would love to get the best watching experience from this time travel anime but I just don't want to get ahead of myself or get confused about plot developments that might have been explained in C;H. Any advice on this would be appreciated!

This has nothing to do with chaos;head and happens in an unrelated world line which is akin to it happening in an alternate reality (one we never see in the series or game either, for the record). There are no cameos, no relations, no throwbacks, no nothing to C;H in this series and the two have zero connections aside both games being created by the same company and having a ; in their titles. The only time the two are EVER connected is in an untranslated drama-cd wherein the MC from C;H and the MC in S;G do some work together.

They are both stand-alone and you miss absolutely nothing, and chaos;head is fucking abysmal so don't ever waste your time on it. That goes for both the anime and the VN.

The general consensus is that Chaos;Head is utter garbage, it's not relevant or needed to proceed with your viewing of Steins;Gate, I wouldn't even entertain the dark thought of watching Chaos;Head

Honestly the difference in quality between the two is truly staggering, you rarely see such sweeping differences in class by "related" anime. Anyway I'm starting to ramble, you don't need Chaos;Head in the least to understand what happens in Steins;Gate.
I hope I've helped :)

Chaoshead seemed promising (at least to me) til they introduced the whole d-swords thing and turned what I expected to be a psychological anime to a battle shounen. Nevertheless I would avoid it too.

The Fine Line: Steins;Gate is a masterpiece. Also the first 16 episodes of Railgun S. But Stains;Gate can also leave you unsatisfied. You'll get what I mean at the end. It leaves you wanting more and though it gives closure, you can't help but want more.
Take a look. There's an odd, darkish, red coloring inside of my gun-cannon. Can you just... do a little scrub scrub and clean it out?

Can you see it? You probably can (kinda hard to miss it *cough*). Just Reach your arm on up back there. I, myself, have no plausible idea on how it got all the way in there. >:3
