(I was going to put 'shocking' instead of 'disturbing'... until I remembered that part of School Days' charm is knowing how it ends. It's hard to be shocked by what you see coming!) 1: Berserk Berserk has stellar characterization. Its characters are built up gradually over the course of the story, as well as their relationships with each other. Medieval warfare/light political intrigue, mixed with excellent characters, at its best. Then... ...out of nowhere, the entire cast were transferred to the monster dimension and brutally murdered/eaten by monsters. And to top off his ultimate betrayal, Griffith raped Guts' woman in front of him. Everything ended, after that - leaving me in state of shock and awe over what I'd just witnessed. 2: Barefoot Gen When you watch a film about Hiroshima, you SHOULD know what you're getting yourself into. And, though I was well aware what would happen, it was hard not to be disturbed by the bombing sequence where, out of nowhere, people's skin started melting off and the entire area was transformed into the hell so oft pictured by those who want to stick images alongside the definition. Not pleasant. 3: Koi Kaze There's no single scene in Koi Kaze that's good enough to be singled out and listed. Rather, the growing sense of despair as two siblings edged closer to a relationship society would never permit made me think of the entire show as disturbing. But if you want me to mention a scene, then the one at the end where the amusement park the two first met at was revealed to be closing down - further highlighting that the two's love could never be in the real world. 4: Shadow Star Narutaru Kitoh's drawings of children being depicted doing horrific things are always disturbing. But I think he topped himself when he had pre-teens bully another pre-teen girl by making her swallow worms/raping her with a test tube. And as for the bullied girl's revenge, where... ...she had a monster force worms down the lead bully's mouth and rape/kill her by inserting a long, sharp finger up her vagina... ...I think the description alone will suffice. 5: School Days More disturbing than the ending itself, for me, was the big-breasted girl's psychological breakdown which occurred over the course of the series. But it isn't exactly everyday... ...a manslut gets stabbed to death for not caring about impregnating a hurt girl and - in turn - the hurt girl gets her stomach cut open by a clearly deranged, once very nice big-breasted girl. Nice boat. I'll add more depending on the thread's activity/my memory. |

The most disturbing anime scene I've ever seen is probably in Shigurui. Seriously. A pedophile giving himself a blowjob in the woods while thinking about little boy, who is dead. Can it get any worse? I really don't find violence that disturbing in anime. Sure blood is fun to watch, but I've never found it disturbing. |

Ok, here goes. Not in any numerical order but here are mine. Aki-Sora: Yume no Naka The whole idea of even putting scissors down there is disturbing, actually most of Nami's actions were pretty disturbing. Blood+ Diva raping that kid. o.O Elfen Lied A few parts in this were pretty bleugh, Mayu's backstory and the animal abuse were the worst parts. Koi Kaze Yeah, the same as the creator of this thread. I really wish this had a happier ending. :( Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha Seriously this one caught me off guard, hence it's inclusion in this list. The part where Fate was getting whipped... i thought that was a kids show like Sakura. Perfect Blue 90% of the film Also perhaps the odd scene in Higurashi....actually no i was expecting bad things in that so i had my guard up i guess. :L |

Yosuga no Sora Haruka gets raped by Nao, but that's not really the most disturbing part, the real disturbing part is that this event is the reason he screws all of the other girls in the previous arcs. Seriously, he would've been better off playing the victim or outright forgetting it ever occured. Akira's arc period, the fact that anyone would defile a miko is disturbing and sickening to me, an example of what should never be done under any circumstances. Gundam Seed Destiny The Extended factory, just sickening with all of dead children inside and the fact that extendeds are tools that are disposed of whenever someone see fit to do so Victory Gundam There are a lot of disturbing things in this anime but I'll pick two. When one of the Zanscare soldiers said that even children should join the military, unthinkable, someone needed to chop off his head because if anyone deserved the guillotine it was that one soldier. When Uso picked up his mother's severed head, that made me cry and seeing that was horrifying |

Elfen Lied Mayu's back story was pretty disturbing since they didn't have to show the scene with her stepfather but they did anyways. We could've just taken their word for it. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni The scene where Shion had to take out her fingernails using that device. Nightshift Nurses Yeah... Ghost in the Shell The scene where Motoko jumped on the tank and tried to pry open the hatch but ripped apart her body instead. Freaked me out the first time I saw it. Green Green Dude got raped by a bear. |

Kaze Koi= i interpreted that ending wayyy differently from you guys. Going to copy and paste something i wrote in the final episode thread In response to some earlier posts, I think its pretty evident that they were planning to continue their relationship as usual. There was ZERO indication that they were going to "cut it off" and only see each other each spring. I mean if we look at every episode of the series, its clear that they could not live without each other. They wanted to be with each other all the time...(thats love). They took the path of no return and they understood fully the ramifications...The female co-worker was the last person who represented "reality" and even then they shut her down. For them to have a night together in the amusement park then...part ways and cut their relationship is irrational and illogical. It definitely does not flow with the intentions of the rest of the episodes. Quite simply, that amusement park is where they first started to get to know each other, and thus holds significance for each other. She wanted to make it a recurring visit each spring since the sakura trees were in full bloom then as well. Remember, they had no idea the place was closing (only the father). I cringed at episode 12 with the sex scene, but I guess that was to be expected, considering we all made a choice to finish a series about...incest. |

Probably Texhnolyze. The way the surface seems so bright and cheerful in contrast to the gloomy underground is made really disturbing when you realize it's a sterile place where humanity is gradually dying away in apathy. And of course, the terrible fate that awaits in the end, being kept alive whilst lokced in place for eternity, more or less. |

Speed Grapher A dentist having fetishism with teeth... He managed & extracted the lady's tooth with those annoying sound you already know. After that he kept the tooth and licked it with his ugly face and disgusting licking sounds exaggerated. A mother bought her daughter to a narcissistic ballad star and asked him to do a private lesson on dancing for her daughter. He asked her to stretch more, bending her arm more and more and eventually broke her arm. I can barely remember their movements in shadows & screaming ... Poor little girl... |

I'm not really going to put them in an order because they all made a memorable impact... Well, Elfen Lied was pretty disturbing but... It was the Mayu's Past scene that really got to me. The puppy scene was pretty nasty too (I can't stand anything with animal abuse) but Mayu's... They really went unnecessarily far to get that point across. I'm warning you, this isn't for younger audiences For some reason, Evangelion Rebuild 2.0 really disturbed me with that scene of Unit 01 tearing apart Unit 3.0 with Shinji screaming bloody murder for it to stop. That was pretty intense. Kurokami had one of these moments too. I mean, you know it's bloody well coming because she just mentioned seeing her twin but Christ, I thought they may flash away and show a blood splatter on the pavement, not just have the truck... collide with her like that, especially a kid. I remember being just utterly shocked. This one is the most recent, episode 14 of Shiki where Toshi was trying to figure out how to kill a Shiki through experimentation on his wife. It showed him slicing her open and cutting veins, injecting her over and over with different combinations and finally, driving a stake rather mercilessly through her heart. I mean, sure, she's a vampire but damn, to be able to do that to someone you loved takes real determination and quite the sprinkle of insanity! Jigoku Shoujo had a couple, but Ai's death takes the cake (I would not consider this a spoiler since it's obvious she died at some point from the get-go). However, how it happened is. The fact that the village beat an innocent child as a sacrifice and buried her alive, making the cousin she loved romantically be the first to throw a shovel full in is just so wrong. Ai gets her revenge though... By burning down the village and killing just about everyone except her cousin. I'm sure there is more, I just can't think of them. |

Perfect Blue Yeah, most of the film, but it was especially the screwdriver in the eyesocket. Despite being a bio majors, eyes freak me out, it's why I still wear glasses and not contacts Higurashi Shion's nails being ripped off. And they showed it too, had they just mentioned it, wouldn't be as disturbing Garzey's Wing the wings on the little annoying fairy's back. It looked like there were maggots crawling under there or something Kaiji When Kaiji reveals that he ripped off his own ear to get the device off. Then the fingers, only to realize that didn't have to happen. Princess Tutu when Fakir stabs his own hand with the old fashioned letter opener so that he'll stop writing. And then again when the bookmen some to cut off his hands (though less creepy considering how that turns out I'm sure there's more that I can't think of right now. |

Elfened Lied Flying limbs. And the puppy being clubbed to death. And the whole classroom covered in blood. Heck, the whole thing. Higurashi Shion's nails being ripped off, and Mion (or Shion?) stabbing Satoko to death. And I agree. Nice boat. |

I'd definitely agree with you on School Days. Like seriously, the whole imagery just stained my memory and its still there even now. I also found some parts of Elfen Lied very disturbing... Such as the part where those small boys capture that puppy Lucy used to care for and beat it to death using a vase? I can't stand animal abuse so I was very mentally wounded...poor puppy :( |

Those who have seen it know which episodes and scenes I'm talking about. But granted, more annoying-disturbing than squick-disturbing obviously. Also, End of Evangelion. If I'm going to name some specific moments, it would have to be when the MP EVAs devour Unit 2, the split second flash of Asuka's rotting corpse and the whole deal with Giant Rei/Lilith absorbing everyone and Unit 1 being swallowed by a giant vagina. Another slightly disturbing/creepy one is the first part of Neo Tokyo. Particularly that trippy creepy circus procession. It's probably because they reminded me of Dali's Elephants. That's one bloody creepy picture, I should look into buying a copy sometime. |

I find most of the characters in Aki-Sora to be very disturbing. An older sister rapes her non-blood related brother and they become a secret couple, the twin sister is a lesbian and has ungodly issues with her brother, that one girl who invites the protagonist to an orgy just to let him see her lose her virginity. The list goes on It's actually not the deeds themselves that disturb me, it's how the author tries to convince us to be OK with all these things happening. |

The Blue Gender version was much more disturbing because, in the episode before, the little girl had got to know the lead. In Kurokami it was random. Yeah: in the anime, they made Keita far more appealing to females by throwing in a cheesy heart exchange, not having him beat-up Kuro whenever she annoyed him, not having him take money from Akane like he's her gigolo, and making him into some sort of emo who's afraid of forging bonds with others. He's a very selfish guy, in the manga, and that made him standout. (Team 'Butcher Kurokami' also reduced Keita in age: in the manga, he works as a game designer; him being college age.) |

Top 5 of the Most Disturbing Things I Saw in Anime are... Perfect Blue Pretty much 85% of the film. Akira When Tesuo turns into a gigantic blob. Berserk When Griffith turns into Femto and rapes Casca, the same Casca he saved from a pedo aristocrat who tried to rape her in the past. Evangelion The mindrape scene of Asuka. AD Police Files In the third OVA episode, a character using a robotic being as a sex toy. |

Off the top of my head, in no particular order Higurashi Quite a few scenes here, from what I can remember though - The pulling the fingernails off scene and the torture (stabbing to death) scenes were fairly disturbing School Days Absolutely hated this anime, the ending was.... disturbing... I guess. However, when I watched this, I just laughed.. most likely because I hated this anime the whole way through then the "murder" happens Mnemosyne If you have seen this, you will know what I am talking about. There are a lot of torture style scenes in this anime, some of which could be considered disturbing There are definitely more, but I cannot remember enough details to warrant posting. |

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni - Pretty much everything. Rena and Mion at Keichi's door with the needle dumplings, Rena trying to break into his house when his parents are away and having her hand slammed in the door, the moment you first find out Rena's a psycho, her eyes change and she becomes so much darker. Hats off to ol' crazy Shion later too. School Days - The ending, although it was so good to watch justice finally get served. Ghost Hunt - There was a ghost with red eyes that stared at the main character through a window, and later appeared down a well too. Welcome to the NHK - The first episode was just trippy. Talking fridges and whatnot. Mushishi - There were a few disturbing stories in this anime. The one about the fungus children springs to mind. |
