Have you ever cooked food inspired by what you saw in anime?

I made some Borscht the other day and remembered that I first decided to learn how to make it after watching Yuru Camp when it aired.

As a child I also frequently slapped eggs over easy on top of toast because I liked how Pazuu does it in Laputa (Castle In The Sky).

Been wanting to tackle Paella because the Hiiragi sisters make it in Lucky Star, but when I look at the ingredients and see too many unfamiliar ingredients (also a specialized pan for it) I get scared.

Anyone else want to share their anime-inspired dishes? Any easy ones? Any meals you are proud of?

Yes, i cooked gyoza many times because i love dorohedoro.
Even thought i didn't cook it per say but instant ramen should count right, i also made rice balls with tuna and imitations of sushi but not because of anime.

Yes- when i first started getting back into anime when i was like 13, I was inspired to make curry, omurice and onigiri

To this day, I have never successfully made omurice lmao. It just turns into regular egg fried rice :D But I eat Japanese curry often

I made pork katsudon thanks to Yuri on Ice, it was pretty good. I also love making the qingjiaorousu (bell pepper beef) from Cowboy Bebop, it's easy to prepare and delicious.

If you live in the US, the paella boxes by Goya actually taste pretty legit without all the weird ingredients. You just need to add extra veggies and seafood to your liking.

I used to drink prairie oysters for bad hangovers which I learned from Cowboy Bebop.

I've made omurice a few times, but I think Japan has their own style of ketchup that's different from American. Either way, it's pretty good.

Also, I'm gonna try drinking barley tea soon. Hot now, then try it chilled when it warms up outside.

I would love to cook dishes from anime, especially after watching Emiya-san Chi Kyou no Gohan.

Too bad I can't cook for shit.

I started cooking Uncle Kenji's fried rice a lot while reading 20th Century Boys and have since made it into my own dish, it was a really silly and minor aspect of the manga, but it had some kinda weird effect on me anyways.

You might be thinking of tonkatsu sauce. Looking up Japanese ketchup brands Im not finding any unusual ingredients listed. It likely is just a low sugar ketchup which you can get from any heath food store but looking it up it seems they use some seasoning in brands like Kagome. So it might be slightly different depending what kind of seasoning they use.

Ive considered getting some barley tea too.

Yes! I discovered Food Wars last year. I had always wondered how to make very thick omelettes, so when I saw the fluffy ones Souma makes, I instantly decided to try it.

A few things on my to do list

tamago sando (Ive done this style but have not done it proper with sokupan yet)
Strawberry cream sandwich
soufflé pancakes
omurice
fried rice
tamagoyaki
ramen from scratch

I would try others but dome may be difficult to get ahold of ingredients. Apparently there is a place called H Mart somewhere around here that is a Korean store with some Japanese stuff too but I found they are obvnoxious. I started making an order to deliver it to me since I dont drive and they keep spamming me.

I also want to learn how to cut the little bunnies from apples.

in a sora no otoshimono chapter, the author writes ikaros' recipe of making japanese curry, it was very simple so I tried it, the results were very good, I cook it form time to time. I am sure that I tried others too but can't remember.
Not food but drink, I tried the infamous oolong tea from grand blue, you probably know it, it's 9 vodka to 1 whisky measures, I don't remember how it tasted but I know for sure I drank half a bottle of vodka like that and I don't remember what I did that night.

Tried to make food inspired from Dungeon Meshi but could not find right monsters to hunt for meat.

If being serious then I have tried to add some boiled eggs and other stuff to my ramen when I was eating that food years ago. Turned out pretty decent.

Curry Rice

Just buy the curry powder or cubes from an Asian market, with Japanese written on the packaging, and you're 80% of the way there.

I don't know if there's some fancy recipe, but I make what's basically a beef-and-veggies stew with it. Throw everything in, let it simmer, pour it over steamed rice, done. Maybe add a raw egg or fried egg on top.

Unless you want to customize your own curry powder mix? That'd be pretty tricky and require experimentation...

Making proper ramen sounds pretty hard, though. Never tried.

A lot of people wanting to make Japanese style curry. It's one of my favorite meals to make because it's pretty straightforward to make, especially if you buy the curry roux cubes.

(^example S&B Golden Curry - I personally like how this one tastes)

Directions are on the box for this brand, and the bare minimum ingredients is just onion, carrot, potatoes, and meat. If you live by yourself you can just use half a box (or buy the smaller box) and cut the ingredients amount in half, or you can do the whole box and it would be perfect for meal prepping for the week.

I also see some folks talking about the right kind of rice. The Japanese rice is very sticky compared to long-grain rice. Although there is a slight difference in the aroma, I usually substitute Korean rice for Japanese rice because that tends to be more affordable than the Japanese rice (at least where I live) but it's similar enough.

@FZREMAKE Rice Omelet is like burgers are in 'Murica- there's a dozen ways to make them, and no correct way. The most common seems to be the ones topped with ketchup. In the thumbnail this just looks like standard fried-rice, they laid a standard egg omelet on top of it
I'd want to fold the omelet over it, like have seen in many anime, but it's all about prefs/style

@SuperAdventure I am not saying that there is only one kind of omelette rice with only one way of cooking it. I am saying that this kind right here which is half uncooked inside and wrapped up perfectly which oozes out when cut in the middle is hard for me to make.

@FZREMAKE

My sister tried making this kind a few years ago. She said it was really tricky to get the right texture of the egg.

The simpler way to do it is to get a thin sheet of egg going and just blanket it on top of ketchup-seasoned rice. My mom did that occasionally when I was a kid and it was good. But it's definitely not as photogenic as the "half-cooked" one.

I made Gyōza with chill oil as dips... Every anime makes gyōza look like the most satisfying food on earth. Curry rice (the universal anime school training camp food) very easy to make..
Oknomiyaki my favorite since inspired by ukyo from Ranma. I made it oats instead of flour recently..
Karaage (the GOAT of anime fried chicken) very easy to make, I like them spicy so I use ghost pepper sauce..
Every anime from Shokugeki no Soma to Your Name to Shin-chan makes omurice look like a love letter And i cooked it... I had it with chilli garlic sauce and Tabasco sauce along with ketchup... I like spicy eggs and rice.. I'm not a fan of sweet food..
That's why I have trouble eating white rice, it's too bland.. I need the flavor of something spicy to go along with.

@RainyEvenings another one I made was yakisoba and then put it inside hot dog bread to make yakisoba pun, the food that make fights break out during school lunch.. Specially in older anime from 80s and 90s..or Yankee ova

When recipes appear in manga, I sometimes actually make and eat them.

When watching anime makes me crave something, I usually go out to eat or buy it at the supermarket rather than make it myself. Buying is easier than making.

However, watching ‘Howl's Moving Castle’ makes me crave white stew, so I occasionally make and eat it. Ghibli films make food look so delicious that I sometimes crave certain dishes or sweets.
