for me good anime is stuff that's written great, super enjoyable, but at the end of the day don't stay with you long enough to make true impact.

a great anime for me is super subjective, it has to have a massage that makes me think and not be sloppy about it in it's presentation. And it also has to come at the right time also, cause at the end of the day a good enough series could be great in the eyes of it's enjoyer if it's truly resonates and connect with you.

is this a normal way of looking at this or is it too subjective in your opinion?

Oftentimes for me it comes down to how they ended said anime. Even if it has great writing and characters, sometimes the finale can really make or break the series as far as legendary status goes.

Sounds about right. When I think about the shoujo or adjacent anime I've watched, a lot of times, I will enjoy it, but it doesn't stick with me because the characters are too stock or the story stops being relevant to my life because I grew up. The two I've watched I'd consider "great" are Super GALS and Love Live Superstar, because those two have positive messages about girls being assertive and standing up for themselves and others, and I still think about them long after finishing. Love Live Superstar was one of the few times an anime genuinely surprised me to the point of tears.

For me, it's rewatchability. I have enjoyed 70% of the anime I have watched and consider them good, but I'd consider only 30% (of those 70%) to be great and would like to rewatch them.
Great anime also leaves a long-lasting (positive) impression on me, as I find myself thinking about them quite frequently even after a long time.
And yes, one's view on what constitutes a "great" anime is always subjective.

A great anime must get me excited, a good one not necessarily.
No, this isn't my signature.

Yeah, emotional impact that stays with you and makes you think differently is the mark of greatness for me too, in any art form. In fact, I'd say it's what separates true Art from "mere" entertainment/decoration.

Good anime for me is enjoyable and overall fun watch. Great anime however is usually memorable one. The ones that I really like and end up remembering them. The end also counts. Though if I enjoyed the overall show and liked the characters very much (especially longer one) I feel like even if the ending is not the best I'd still think it's great. Depends on how well executed it is. So I agree.

Simple question, but hard to answer. It's what takes an anime score from 7 or 8/10 to 9 or 10/10 for me, and can be a myriad of things, but often an x factor. For example, S1 of Dandadan was a great anime, 9/10, but S2 a very good anime, an 8/10. Difference is marginal, ep 7 from S1 which hit emotionally like a ton of bricks, plus the sakuga in S1 was slightly better imho.

For me, the only difference between a good anime and a great anime is just how much I enjoyed it. If I really liked the overall story, the writing, or how the source material was adapted, then it feels great to me.

Yeah, I think calling an anime ‘great’ is totally subjective. Like, for a lot of people Demon Slayer might be a great anime, but for me it’s just good, I’d still rate it a 10/10, but it doesn’t feel ‘great’ in my eyes. On the other hand, I might call Domestic Girlfriend a great anime and rate it 10/10 just like the others I consider good, but I call it greater because I really enjoyed it and liked it a lot.

So yeah, it just depends on the person’s taste. I might rate two good anime a 10/10, but among them, ‘good’ is what I’d call perfect anime, while ‘great’ is the perfect anime I truly loved and enjoyed.

Very easy question. The ratio of quantity and quality of pleasure that I received after watching anime - here is my answer.

Mostly it comes down to how satisfactory the ending is. No matter how great the plot is, how amazing the characters are, if it can't nail the ending it will always remain in the 7-8 "good tier" for me.

A great anime stays memorable for a long time afterwards.

Gut feeling. Scores are arbitrary numbers, in the end the only thing we can say for sure is that a great anime is closer to being a masterpiece than a good one.

There's always gonna be a subjective element to what makes an anime great

You can have the top production, animation, writing, but if you don't enjoy the story and connect to the characters it won't be a great anime for you

For me what seperates a great anime from a good one (and i don't necessarily mean my alltime favrites, i'd say there's both good and great anime in there) is that perfect combination of subjective enjoyment and the more objective or technical elements

These are great anime imo

- Anohana
- Banana Fish
- Death Note
- Fullmetal Alchemist
- Hunter x Hunter (1999)
- Demon Slayer
- Perfect Blue
- Oshi no Ko

"Good" should have a baseline of enjoyability. But to be great, you need to have genuinely good writing, or great characters that break the mold. Having something really unique can help too.

depends on how much time the anime spent on tits, asses and violence, the more the better

A good anime is something that give you a lot but not enough

A great anime is something that is very satisfying
