It's ok Ruri. It's not easy for anyone to plan their future ahead.

This episode's feature is sapphire which has been a common type of gem in this type of show. Ruri is such an adventurer though. You just always expect her to be on the lookout for anything related to her interests.

Really Happy to see Ruri managed to find more sapphire I personally think she would make an amazing researcher.

“I love pretty rocks” I’m so proud of Ruri realizing she wants to become a mineralogist/researcher! It’s all thanks to mentorship Nagi and Imari have provided! You never know the impact you can have on a young person’s life! Becoming a scientist doesn’t require genius IQ, just a passion for learning.

The last two episodes giving Imari leadership experience is really cool. Nagi is great, but Imari coming into her own as a mentor to the girls is really sweet and she brings her own unique methods and expertise to these rock hunting seasons. Seto and Ruri are so lucky because they’re basically getting an entry level university mineralogy course in high school for free lol.

So today, I learned about rock slates and host rocks. Finding the host rock is really cool because it gives you insight into the world that particular gem was born into. The visualisation of Ruri connecting with the host rock and learning its story is so beautiful. Rocks really are a window into the past of the planet and tell the story of us! Even though they’re millions and billions of years old, learning about the past can help us understand the present and give us insight about the future.m

Great episode and a great message. Science belongs to all of us. It’s not something that only the rich and genius have a monopoly on. Go out, explore this beautiful world we have. Everything you see around you is your laboratory.

i love ruri's development. im glad even she realizes that she has changed over her time with nagi, imari, and seto. this was basically her expidetation, so to speak, like how last week was imari.

Absolute cinema of an episode.
This episode really showed how she grew since the start of the show but still has a original vision in mind.
Its absolutely glorious, I am crying a little bit. Also Ruri finally got her Domain Expansion.
Authentic.

Honestly, watching Ruri's gradually develop a deeper interest and passion on minerals (sapphire specifically) is always amusing to watch, but this episode especially makes me adore her and this anime even more

This anime describe Nagi as grad student and Yoko as 4th year undergrad student, but to have such a high degree of freedom in their study it'd be more reasonable to make Nagi a postdoc while Yoko a PhD candidate.

I'm guessing Ruri really doesn't see herself as a reasercher while still doing research in her own terms. In her pursuit of "pretty rocks" her curiosity and sometimes vanity has led us to think the journey for sapphire was over when further questions were still lingering in the air and she was sure she'd continue down this path in order to answer them.

This was yet another emotionally packed episode with some great animation and a motivating message for all of us who love science. Every week I'm liking this more and more.

PhD students have a lot of freedom too(I am one) especially in stem if she’s nearing the end she’s probably done with most of her course requirements and could be working on her dissertation/publications which explains why she’s at conferences.

I mean yea she’s obviously a great character and gorgeous, but you don’t want Imari to just be a cardboard cutout. There’s only like 4 main characters in this series so it’s important they’re all well developed. Plus, given she’s a PhD student it makes sense she’s away and not just spending all her time with the girls. I’m sure the last couple episodes will have a lot of time with her.

Doctoral studies are graduate… grad school is master’s and PhD. People rarely get master’s in stem fields like mineralogy so common sense would just lead you to assume it’s a PhD. Master’s students don’t travel internationally for conferences either(usually)

@Marinate1016 A doctoral degree is a post-graduate and considering how the manga is based on the author's own mineralogy graduation, I don't see where you took this information that Nagi is in a Geology doctoral program.

You’re playing semantics for no reason lmao. Graduate school offer postgraduate degrees. Literally Google any graduate program and you’ll see both. No one gets masters in mineralogy. You’re talking to someone in a doctoral program who’s got a masters, two actually. Respectfully I know what I’m talking about.

Postgraduate and graduate are used interchangeably. A google search would help you more. The term grad school refers to any post graduate, I.e after your undergraduate, degree.

Ngl, I think this was the episode where the most stuff went over my head, I rewinded a few times to try to understand certain parts but I had to give in and let the episode play, didn’t wanna be stuck on it for an hour lol, it’s definitely on me and not the show tho, it didn’t hurt the episode for me at all either. This one was especially good for the Ruri development, with Nagi gone she really went full researcher to find that host rock, and in the process she made another amazing discovery at the same place they originally found the sapphires, such a beautiful moment.

And one aspect that really shows Ruri’s growth is that the rock she was looking for was not a pretty one for once, and even Ruri herself noticed this, it’s kinda funny but once again, it really shows how she’s changed. And I really liked the last moments of the episode where it was revealed that Ruri wants to make the pretty rocks look even prettier, I think that’s a great way of looking at it for Ruri, she’s gonna make a fine mineralogist (if I’m getting the title right) if that’s the path she ends up choosing. Also, I was missing Nagi this episode but I got no issue with her taking a backseat for Imari to do some teaching, she’s proven herself at this point.

That’s objectively not true. I got my first master’s in Scotland lmao. Again please don’t try to compete with me on this. I’m in academia. It’s ok to be wrong sometimes. Just take the L, say ok and enjoy the rest of the show :)

The core of the eleventh episode lies in two areas: the idea that science requires the initiative to find both questions and answers, and linking things together as parts of a system, and secondly, the fact that progress might not always be visible to those in the weeds. For this reason, it takes mentors and peers to help one to spot this. The journey to Ruri seeing that her interest in geology is legitimate, and her choice to take up an Earth Science option course, is a strong showing of this message.

Also, Master's students can and do travel for conferences. The linked article's author travelled to two different conferences during their time as a Master's student.

Oh wow, Ruri have come so far, she was basically leading that research, with all thanks to everything she learned from Nagi-san and Imari-san. So proud of her, she's already on the right track to become a researcher, even if she says she's still only doing it for the pretty rocks, I think that is a really good motivation.

I could not stand Ruri at first with all her immaturity. But she had considerable character development and is by now quite likeable.
