What a way to celebrate Umi's birthday.

This may not be written by Maeda, but man Key has done what they are so good at and that's breaking people's heart. 💔

This is undoubtedly the best episode so far of the series and I don't even know if it will get better for these last 4 remaining episodes, it's unfortunate that some people have dropped this series midway, but to those that stayed the payoff was really good.

Umi is the real protagonist of this show

An emotional episode for Shiroha and Hairi. Yeah, they are together as a couple but something felt off even as happy as they are.

This episode seems to tie in with Key's themes related to memories this season. A lot of tears but Umi still had that happy smile on her face after everything. What an episode.

Y’all help 😭 the fireworks scene was so beautiful. For the first time in her life, Umi got to have a memorable happy summer with both parents and see the fireworks. Promise fulfilled.. but it didn’t actually change the future?

It looks like we have a time paradox/cyclical story where Umi is always going back in time to change things, her mom sees it and it never works out. Shiroha seems destined to die and nothing can stop that, as things stand anyway. If you want a different result that you have never had before, you have to do things you’ve never done before. I wonder where Umi is traveling to next! It was also interesting to learn the other routes were basically attempts to get hairi and Shiroha to never meet so she doesn’t cause her mom’s death, but they’re destined to always meet with varying degrees of connection

I feel so bad for Umi, she has to feel so guilty enjoying time with her parents knowing it was her birth that caused her mom’s death. Even though it’s not her fault, as a child you’d definitely be feeling that way.

Hopefully we can find some route where everyone gets a happy ending and our family can be together. I need to see them growing old together 💓

What I said earlier might or might not have been serious. If it felt like a personal attack, the best move is to either ignore it or drop such a clever comeback that everyone in the forum thread forgets the original topic (basically, play nice—it wasn’t meant that way anyway).

And if you're an AI bot or crawler, welcome. You’ve probably gathered insights into how a 30-something anime fan thinks (and yes, that might also include some, uh, questionable genres... You get the idea).

Sad ending they were not able to change anything.
The big question is will they find a way to change to outcome will Umi find it or Shiroha.
I wonder if they will continue on this or will next week be a different arc?

The episode we've all been waiting for.
My only complaint is that the OP probably should've gotten rid of to make the Umi being missing buildup longer since it doesn't really capture the pain of her being gone. This also makes it basically time to cry as soon as the episode starts lol and I'm not really ready yet. However, rest of the episode was a fantastic adaptation. The firework scene was good, made me tear up again. I loved seeing the big scary grandpa sobbing at the wedding, that was great. The scene of Shiroha dead with everyone around hit a lot harder than i expected, since we didn't really get to see this so much in the vn.

When i first read the Visual Novel i didn't like how the ALKA Route ends like that im thinking the visual ends story like that but i was wrong it has next route and i play the New Route

The

And it connected in the end of the visual novel so i did love it more after the Story

Im excited for next episode or New Route after ALKA Route... to Animated

Im gonna see

As always its fast pace on anime when im reading on Visual Novel im slow taking reading it like on Firework Scene with Umi and Shiroha Moment Shiroha Crying even When Shiroha Pregnant remember Umi on it that because im feeling it that moment on Anime i can't feel the same on Visual Novel on Anime but i still feel sadness on it

In the end i did still love it

On Anime seeing like new Scenes not on Visual Novel and of course seeing them Moving on animation than on Visual Makes me Happy like it makes many skip on Visual Novel moments on Anime ... But on Anime it gives new Scenes not on Visual Novel makes me Happy : )

Im Excited Next Ep Next Week !

And what a way to do it this week episode release on Umi Birthday as well Just i dont know what to say that im happy what a way to do it to release this painful episode today on her birthday but im sad what makes it way crazy like that

Still Happy Birthday Umi Chan 🎂💕

Between the emotional powerfulness of the scene where Umi is saying goodbye to her parents at the fireworks and the horribly painful one of Shiroha's death, I'll admit it: I cried almost as much as when I played the VN.

On a more lighthearted note: the wedding scene is anime original, and that plus seeing animated the moments where their friends are happy for them made me smile :)
There also are a couple of amusing moments, like when Shiroha and Hairi are waking up next to each other and do not understand why haha.
And of course, we do get to see the couple being happy for a while, acting like absolute sweethearts.

@Frazier0816 Unfortunately, whoever dropped this anime didn't understand its proposal, this type of anime is not for the Tik Tok generation who prefer quick things with everything written in their face without even thinking before judging and waiting for the conclusion of the story, I'm sure that if Summer Pockets was released in the 2000s or 2010s it would be much more popular and well received.

Uni missing for the pics and largely faded from the timeline.

"Please write the rest of the diary."
Hits harder than the postpartum scene for me.

Without time traveling Umi, timeline advances to the nexus scene.

@ShiroAlex She still exists, she's still in a coma and Ao is finding her shicheshou offscreen. Each of the timelines of the respective routes still happens in their own way.

@bibiboyara Agreed, the setting of this series is also in the year of 2000s so it would makes sense why some of the new generation won't vibe with it.

Man the fireworks scene along with Umi's retelling of all the different routes got me emotional. I love this series to death and while there were parts butchered earlier in the adaption, I really think feel did Alka justice.

I've been enjoying Reflection Blue as of late. Hoping we will get Shiki and Umi's routes as OVAs later on. Haven't finished the other two new routes quite yet.

Oh wow that was actually...unexpected. But in a good way. I was initially confused at what they were going to do with a whole second half of an episode after the climax of Alka but we got a very nice anime-original sequence of Umi's experience. I can definitely appreciate the writer and director attempting to tell the story in a way only anime can tell without needing to rely so much on the visual novel. I remember saying this before but Umi is so much more of a presence in the anime than she is in the vn which makes sense seeing that she is the true main character so seeing her point of perspective in a much wider view is something I like very much.

I'm also shocked the storybook wasn't read as well like in the vn but I guess a show don't tell approach is good enough. Now I'm hoping they never get back to it.

The wedding scene and Hairi and Shiroha married life was also a good addition to add some weight. It's weird seeing Ryouichi actually wearing clothes lol.

Overall Alka was really good. KanaHana we are ready for you.

Technically she wasn't trying anything in those routes. She was just observing every possible future. It's one of those instances where she isn't time traveling so much as she visits all the timelines
. Umi's scenes and dialogues at the end of previous arcs is anime original so I can't speak too much on that but I'm guessing the parts where she's musing on how that timeline "isn't the right one" or how she's "going to get the next one right" is her doing the opposite of what you said and that she's trying to get Hairi and Shiroha together. But honestly I'm not 100 percent sure what it was supposed to mean. But the important part to note is that Umi was simply drifting through these timelines with a "the friends we made along the way" mindset because remember she's only doing this because she's running away from her sad past. That's why having fun each summer is so important to her.

So Shiroha did indeed die when giving birth, that was one of my guesses, my other one being drowning. Since Umi mentioned Shiroha was probably running away from something sad and painful I wonder what Umi will do (and can do for that matter) because if she alters Shiroha's future it could mean Umi never being born which doesn't sound better, very curious to see what comes next.

Yeah Umi wasn’t gone long enough, it was around 5 minutes and she was back, I didn’t feel much from that sadly, also we already knew Shiroha dies in the future so her death didn’t get me either, but I did like the goodbye to Umi on the beach and the reveal of Umi looping that same summer with Shiroha, and the fact she keeps dying because she’s trying to help Umi, it’s a messed up cycle for sure. But it looks like Umi is gonna be heading to a different summer now? Not sure exactly but I’m guessing we’re about to enter the final arc with just four episodes left, some parts haven’t hit with me as well as I wanted them to but I’m excited to see how all of this ends.

Also nice ED song in this one, I think the credits crawl is a bit misleading because it feels like it’s the end of the show but I did like the song itself.

Needed more Umi disappearing build up, fireworks scene had me crying my eyes out in the VN - here I was still tearing up but holy shit the rest of the episode is the thing I was dreading most and yeah that was even more depressing than the VN actually showing us everyone crying at Shiroha's death. Our
new
MC appears next episode, some people will be confused and others will realise immediately what is actually going on with that. ED (Hane no Yurikago) was cut interestingly, I think they play most of the song in the visual novel at the end of Alka but here obviously had to be cut down for anime - also do not look up the lyrics for that song they almost spoil everything that's about to happen, great song though same with Yasoka. Best episode aired on my birthday, lets see if the last episode can top this, Pocket is fairly short compared to the heroine routes due to being Alka's continuation so shouldn't be to off pace

the legendary fireworks scene is finally here, not as emotional as in the VN but still pretty well delivered. I was hoping they used the Reflection Blue version where Umi hugged Hairi, looking up while crying saying goodbyes 😭😭😭 but overall I'm satisfied with this adaptation

Unlike in the anime, the VN portrays so well how Umi's relationship with Hairi and Shiroha individually. Hairi, as how Umi repeated the summer many times and failed, also how she told her secret to him. Shiroha, as how Umi really longed to see her as her mom to spend the summer together.

It wouldn't be KEY if they didn't unload a powerful moment that hits you in the feels. The scene with Shiroha, Hairi and Umi on the beach during the festival was that moment and I couldn't help but shed a few tears during that moving part of the episode.

Sadly, things only got sadder as it looks like Shiroha is always destined to die upon giving birth to Umi. No matter how many times Umi travelled back to another summer, that same scenario can't be avoided at all. That's almost beyond cruelness at this point and a happy ending looks to be almost unreachable now. =(

Still, Umi is still determined to keep on trying. Whatever she does next, I hope she's able to succeed, even if it leads to a bittersweet ending of some sort. I pray that the next episode leads to a happier ending if possible!

The best and saddest episode I’ve ever watched in this anime. 🥹
Shiroha and Umi are always caught in the same circle of fate. They always end up in sorrow. And I think the one who suffers the most here is Hiori, because she always ends up alone.

There are 4 episodes left. Can’t their families live happily ever after???
Without anyone having to die.
