What would it take to appeal to you?
I'm discussing yuri edgelords. I notice a common pattern between the best and edgiest female edgelord protagonists, which is that they have yuri undertones.   I have no conditions aside from the protagonist being an actual edgelord in personality and behaviour, as well as the story having some kind of power fantasy structure. Some ideas for a yuri harem: - Battle maid, "goshujin-sama", "ojou-sama", "master" anything is fine, but the dress is pastel pink or blue because that's kawaii - Catgirl or Fox girl, if its a foxgirl she will be 750 years old and the deity of a local shrine, or 15 and embarrassed that people keep mistaking her for a deity -A clumsy girl that messes things up for everyone, she is bullied by the plot and almost gets piked or killed in various ways and vomits and pisses herself, but that makes her pull through in situations where everyone else gives up. - A rival as equally Diva as the protagonist that's only a rival to have an excuse to be close to her, "They don't understand you like I do!", "ch-chotto matte ikanaide!" - A kuudere, the final form of moe. - An assertive pervert girl with airhead personality -Imouto, "onee-chan!", or one of those gropy "Onee-sama~" trope girls if that's what you prefer.   If you can't watch anything without fanservice here's my personal suggestion (Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash + High Kicks) Or would you like it without any yuri or fanservice, just the protagonist doing her thing? Or would you like something I haven't discussed?  Tell me, what would it take to appeal to you guys? |

The pieces are all there in scattered works (Satou, Esdeath, Lucifer from Nanatsu no Taizai), but they’re rarely the main character, and even more rarely allowed to go full power fantasy without being “balanced” by guilt, trauma, or romance. You’re not crazy. You’re just looking for something that isn't popular enough for this medium to be flooded with it to the point where a bunch of online Western 'Fans', that most likely pirate Anime in the 1st place, to start bitching and whining about such Anime even existing in the 1st place. lol |

This is entirely true. I lost all my realistic expectations when I found out that Joou-Heika no Isekai Strategy got axed. Which has an actual female "edgelord" power fantasy or Zarutaku said: protagonist. Even if a similar manga existed, it would probably suffer the same fate. A random trivia of mine, I played a mobile game called Legend of the Phoenix which was pretty much the same thing as apothecary diaries without the poison testing, it's a whole genre I was already a fan of since I liked Xianxia/Wuxia. Sick of lame revenge like in Fukushuu Kyoushitsu and other stories where she goes through the worst trauma possible only to have a reasonable revenge, it doesn't even feel like revenge anymore but plain justice, the actual bare minimum. Reading this is depressing not fun because it just reminds you she's a victim. Redo of a healer anime is the total opposite and never got boring.   |

| @joou-sama I like Saiunkoku and watched a bit of Apothecary Diaries hoping for something similar, but I did not like it. I recently played an actual Chinese game called "The Hungry Lamb." I doubt the lead girl is the edgelord you're looking for, but the story is really good and emotional! |

| I like the idea of this in general, partly because you're correct in that it hasn't ever been explored from the POV of a protagonist, and partly because I'm attracted to those types of women. I'd absolutely watch an anime about a powerful edgelord female protagonist. There are side-characters like this here and there (Homura, Esdeath, Medeka, etc.) but none of them really get the spotlight. I'd suggest checking out Mato Seihei no Slave, which comes pretty close (minus the Yuri undertones). |

| All that I really have to say on this is that I've noticed a lot more of the edgy yuri protagonist tends to skew towards more of a male audience, but that isn't really surprising when the regular edgy female characters are in anime more male audience dominated. The major exception would be the villainess genre but lets be honest that genre isn't that edgy. This reminds me though we need a redo of healer but women protag instead. Although that one high school magical girl anime that came out a couple of years ago might fit the bill. |
