Oh good, they introduced all the main characters in just the first episode. Maybe all of them will get development somewhat but Mai is the most outspoken one there.

There's the school setting and obvious bowling as part of the story. I'm glad they got straight to the point of this show. Mai definitely had a lot of emotions to spill just from the first episode. Good stuff though, they made the bowling scenes in the second half look like cinema.

Tatsunoko's Bakken Record studio production label arm going at it with another sports series since Winter 2023's Mou Ippon!
a.k.a "Ippon" again!, only this time in bowling.

The girls of the Ikkokukan High School bowling club, where both Rina Godai and Mai Otonashi are its star players, while the members of Nanase Nikaidou, Nozomi Mitaka and Sayuri Ichinose sit on the sidelines cheering on for the two's perfect Turkey parade, until Mai broke that streak and produces quite the split that basically rendered their loss at the chance of winning a tournament.

That left quite the sour taste between Rina and Mai, enough to have their own bowling session showdown to prove and salvage the 1st Year's thought that her 2nd Year Senpai, and captain of the bowling club, could break her imperfect streak and challenge that Rina will not leave the club. But no matter what she does, Mai will STILL end up with the impregnable Pin 7-10 Snake Eyes split combi for an incredibly difficult spare. Given the girl who's been raised in bowling for pretty much her entire life, it's quite the setting for all the girls to be carried away by the bowling ball suddenly turning into quite the "lightning" space...right into history books?

Interesting premise, aside from the bowling aspect that has potential to expand this original story.

All-female sports anime are usually way too underrated, if you don't count Girls und Panzer, Keijo!!!!!!!, Uma Musume, etc.

So, this time the girls are up for some bowling. Quite a unique case, like Iwa-Kakeru! Sport Climbing Girls, Kandagawa Jet Girls, and Puraore! Pride of Orange (ice hockey) for example.

Entertaining and also a very surprising start. I expected this to be more like an ordinary sports anime. I definitely didn't expect a time travel story.

WAIT. This wasn’t what I was expecting at all from this wtf was that ending?? Lowkey one of the most interesting premieres of the season. Thought this was gonna be a cute slice of life bowling anime, which would’ve been the first of its kind, and suddenly we’re inuyasha and time traveling back to the Sengoku period?? Very curious to see where this goes!

I completely stand with Rina in wanting the bowling club to take things seriously btw. Kinda pointless to make a club if y’all are just showing up to events with no intent to win. You can have fun bowling recreationally instead of spending money on club dues and gear lol. I also feel like Mai is holding back quite a bit probably because she didn’t wanna make the other girls uncomfortable with how good she is and that’s why Rina’s so upset with her.

I’m guessing that this is gonna be a timeloop type deal because we see a bowling ball covered in dirt that’s been excavated, maybe when the season is over, they’ll bury that and then the loop will repeat? OR another group of girls time traveled before them.. this’ll be fun, can’t wait to see the girls introducing bowling to some samurai lmao.

Where's my CGDCT playing bowling in Nagano? I thought we would finally get a CGDCT bowling anime. But, no. At the end of the episode, they were time-travelling back to the past. So, no more bowling?! πŸ₯Ί

btw, the train station at the beginning of the episode was Obasute Station

wha

I'm so confused but so interested in this anime. I thought it was going to be a regular bowling anime at first. So, this is a time travel anime? To be honest, I wasn't interested until the end of the episode just randomly showed THAT. Now I wonder what the hell is going to happen in these coming episodes. Are they going to throw their bowling balls at people to defend themselves or what? Kind of excited to see the next episode.

If the show was all about those girls having a regular club life it would still be enjoyable but now we have a weird time travel or whatever twist.

Well, I wasn't expecting that. Mai seems to have landed in the midst of a battle alone. I guess somehow she learns how to pick up a spare even if it's a split.

This wouldn't be your average CGDCT sports series, the cover image told us as much. The episode up to the ending was also pretty dramatic and serious. But well, the twist worked. Definitely gotta check out the next episode.

I don't know how a bowling anime was supposed to win me over. As a game, t's fun to play but as a spectator sport? Even golf beats it out for sure right? I mean there just isn't quite the same level of varieties/strategies at play. I'm not a bowling expert/strategist so I may not know how deep bowling really can get but this first episode really isn't interested in teaching or elaborating what these strategies are anyway. Throw ball > knock all pins down > don't not knock all pins down > repeat...

But that's okay because I really like these characters. We are introduced to them as the team is falling apart after a loss and differences tear the unity of the group apart. But it doesn't feel like you are out of step with the motivations/interests of each character in the least. The characters are witty, relatable, passionate, and engaged in their successes and failures. They have history together and it's very easy to understand who each girl is outside of their bowling club. Which is a big part of where the fallout all starts.

I love good character writing man. It just elucidates how important this all is to me. It doesn't matter if the anime is about frickin' Hopscotch, I will watch it. I will find the value in whatever story they are trying to tell. From frame out you know this anime means to be super sincere and through the action, conflict, and dialogue you can feel it has been earned.

Then there's that ending.

I have no idea where this show is going but I did not expect THAT at all. But they even set it up with that ball under the bookstore. They are *going* for something and I am down to see where this crazy story goes.

This is the third time since starting to watch anime in 2016 that I've strongly felt a particular anime had a disgustingly deceptive and flat out dishonest marketing campaign behind it, rooted in full and complete deliberate deception, in a way utterly insulting to and disrespectful of their audience. To the point of inducing pure incredulity.

First Higurashi Gou in 2020, then Zenshuu earlier this very year, and now this.

I sincerely hope that it isn't a trend others look to for inspiration, which catches on like wildfire and that we get an accelerated rate of production of these, essentially, mass organized lying campaigns.

CGDCT sports drama was what i signed up for but totally not what i seem to be getting ??? what the hell are they gonna do now being sent back in time

praying it isn't too dark but i dont think it will be a happy ending but at least they make it back alive from that intro

To be honest it seemed like a paint by numbers CGDCT anime about bowling, a sport I am not interested in. So I wasn't inclined to take this further until I got spoiled about the plot on TwiteX. Now I am inclined to give this another two episodes to see where it is going. It also doesn't hurt that the girls really are cute and the animation is pretty good either.

False advertising, deceptive advertising and marketing, complete lie. These creators thought they were clever, but no. I am sorry but stop. You do weeks of promo for this anime about bowling, and then you completely change everything this was being promoted to by the end? I subbed to CR mainly because I was excited for this show. After I finished, I don't think I have ever been this mad at a piece of media like this. 90% of this episode was great, but doesn't matter, because Turkey! isn't about anything. And I fear more of this show will more than likely be the same. I won't spoil the details but honestly, save yourself from this if you were hyped. Please.

Pretty fun and interesting.
I definitely wasn't expecting that ending direction since like on surface this looked like an all girls sports anime but this twist only makes me wanting more to see the next episodes. Their dynamic group is also well constructed, with some drama and conflict. Let's see if they will all go together to the same place and time or if they will go separate ways.

Huh?? Honestly, a surprising twist at the end, but even if I think hard, I wouldn't even come out with this super weird idea of time slipping into that "decade".

Interesting end for sure, but the fact that our expectation from this anime came out to be this much different is extremely hard to justify lol. The previous visuals and PVs have absolutely nothing related to do with that time slipping thing. You would think this will be a sports anime that centers around high school girls with a taste of drama, but no, it's way more complicated than we all think of. Still looking forward to how the situation develops, though.

Initially added to my PTW last year for the CGDCT, heard about the sudden tone shift a couple hours ago, felt weirded out and mildly off-put, watched ep 1 out of pure curiosity, now i'm totally hooked. I have absolutely no clue what they're cooking but ep 1 was great.
