well, the trope could exist in any media...but since we are in MAL let's just say it'd be nice if they are found in animanga content-

i have a lot of weirdly specific tropes that i devour !!
one of them being "socially inept main character trying to get out of their comfort zone and navigating life"
we could see that in Violet Evergarden, Natsume Yuujinchou.

one of the tropes i also love is "dysfunctional family dynamics and them struggling to stick together because family first priority' something like Little Miss Sunshine, Schitt's Creek

i dont know if we have such tropes in anime..its mostly friends over family- so if you know such, please let me know !!

your turns !! lets hear them -

tough detective mc with a couldn't-care-less attitude is really just a softie with a tragic past.... yummy, I eat it up every time!

the dysfunctional family one is pretty great too though! similarly, there's the abandoned ragtag bunch of misfits become their own chosen family bit.

Here are a few of my favorite tropes 👌

- Side view of the main cast all lined up and looking at the horizon (not sure how common this one is though lol)
- Kirito look-alikes / impersonators
- Characters with their eyes completely covered by their hair
- Anime girl is late and has toast in her mouth

@real_slim_jadey Oh interesting. I really like the look of the characters in this pic. I didn't know they had a similar lineup scene in 86 haha. Thanks for sharing the pic! 👌

I wish I could see more genuine sibling energy in shows. There's so much of siscons and brocons with incestuous tension in the air. As well as super supportive and attentive siblings who love and care for their family and treat them with the utmost kindness that reaches almost to a coddling level.

Absolutely not. I have multiple siblings, we are chaotic, unhinged, and get into ridiculous fights all the time. Over food, over clothes, over using the bathroom first, yada yada. But of course, siblings come together and protect and love each other when the time or situation calls for it. And I'd love to just see a dynamic like that in general. Pure chaotic energy.

Similar thing with childhood friends. Unless one or both of the character's personalities is superly timid and/or reserved, I just expect there to be a more comfortable and open relationship. I would expect them to tease and annoy each other. Talking about pure complete nonsense together, and so on.

For instance, in FMAB Ed and Alphonse's relationship didn't for a second make you believe they were anything but brothers. You can tell they grew up with each other, and even with both of their relationship with Winry. There's a familiarity and comfortability in their bickering and their support.

And for less dark-themed anime, I just prefer those dynamics in general and relationships in hyperbolic comedy that reflect that yes this is someone I am comfortable around with so much, that I hate them, but I can't live without them. Chaos in relationships that don't affect the relationship are just funny and relatable.

@Lychee-Jelly I agree! I dislike bro/siscon characters but adore supportive, loving sibling relationships. Like Laios and Falyn from Delicious in Dungeon or Tanjiro and Nezuko from Demon Slayer.

Honestly, I’m a sucker for anything family-related, not just siblings but parent and child, too. Dysfunctional family trying to stick together, overcoming past hardships with optimism, arguments and heartbreaking revelations! But I also like to see families doing domestic things together and helping each other with their problems.

Also, not so uncommon, but I like found family tropes. They make me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Found family like, long lost child/sibling finding their family?

From your comment I realized the topic was "weirdly specific trope," and I went on a rant about familial love xD. But at least it was specific, maybe not too weird tho. But, yeh family love is sooo wholesome.

“Found family” as a trope is more like characters who are unrelated by blood and never had a solid family experience form their own family with a group of friends who accept them. The Straw Hats in One Piece would be a good example. You get that wholesome family feeling with characters that were orphans/don’t have a good family!

Taller girl and shorter boy relationships. I very much dislike the opposite especially when the girl is not tall enough to reach his chin. Female infantilism is not cute or enjoyable for me.

Bromances. Just an anime where two or more guys with no interfering romance just backing each other up.

Where a boy and girl grow up from children together and do NOT have any romantic interest in each other. And to be honest I'm even struggling of thinking of an example of it.

Boys with pink hair. There are not that many. Plenty of girls with pink hair which I DON'T like but not so much guys.

Non fanservice females in action shows. Not fanservice as in no romance with MC, no excessive bareskin or big busts, capable in a fight themselves without ending up needed support from the male character. Unless it's actually warranted. Not oh no I'm a girl I need the guy to do the job I can't quite do myself because I'm a girl.

Moe boys. Not the pervy kind. I just want boys allowed to be cute too.

Muscle women and actually more muscle men.

- Tsundere bossy lolis & cute lolis.

- Strong wahmen who are the main character (combat wise, not political intelligence wise)

- Incest, blood & non blood variants

- Fanservice in all shapes & sizes

- Japanese characters using English words, like Okabe calling himself a 'Mad Scientist'.

- Catchy phrases & words like 'El Psy Congroo' / 'I'm royalty, you know?!' / 'Moscoy' / 'Men'

- Cat- & foxgirls

A group of idiots that are basically forced to work together and end up becoming a dysfunctional family that truly love each other when they're not fighting each other. Bonus points if each member is an outcast of some kind whom is rejected by everyone else, so this group is a chosen family of sorts.

Power of Friendship. This one alone is pretty common, I think, but I specifically like it when all hope seems lost and the big band is totally going to win, but then the heroes remember they're best friends and the world is saved. Bonus points if they're empowered by their flashbacks.

Related to the previous one, but in stories where one or more of the heroes have died before, I like it if their ghost/spirit/whatever comes back at the end one last time to see how much everyone else has grown and cheers them on. Gurren Lagann did this wonderfully!

Magical girl transformations. Again, this is popular, but I like it when it is diegetic (meaning the characters within the story can see and hear the transformation sequence). Bonus points if the villain waits patiently for it to finish before attacking because they're honourable. Futari wa Precure: Splash Star did this. Alternatively, you could have a dishonourable villain who attacks mid-transformation.

Speaking of magical girls, I'm not too fond of killing the big bad. I prefer it if the magical girls win through love and kindness. Bonus points if they hug the villain and the villain breaks down and cries.

In ecchi series, I like it when the protagonist actively does lewd things. Passive protagonists are very common, but I think the guy who goes out of his way to look under a girl's skirt makes for a more fun protagonist.

Girls who pout cutely when they're mad or upset.

A harem where instead of being forced to choose one girl, the guy ends up choosing them all and they become one big family.

Harems with slave girls.

Lab coats. It looks good on both men and women, so I don't mind who wears it. I just like lab coats.

A girl who goes everywhere barefoot and is basically never seen wearing shoes. Not a boy or man, this is specifically a girl. I swear I don't have a foot fetish, I just think girls look best barefoot.

Fictional in-world pieces of media that don't actually exist in real life. Let's say there's a character whom is a huge fan of this one anime, but that anime doesn't actually exist and was only made up for the world of this story. Bonus points if sometime later we get a glimpse into this piece of media in the real world, like an OVA that's intended to be an episode from the fictional series.

A gruff older man who through some circumstance finds himself forced to take care of a young girl, and through her relearns what it means to be human. Typically, this story would end with him dying after securing a bright future for the younger generation.

Maybe related to the previous one. A revolutionary who fights against the oppressors (it doesn't matter who or what they are as long as the story is good) and succeeds in overthrowing the system and laying the groundwork for a better one. However, this character dies after securing a bright future. He can lead them to paradise, but he may not enter it himself.

Friendly and caring succubi. Within mythology, the succubus is an evil demon which kills men, but I prefer to see them as actually being nice and not murderous. A succubus can basically be the hot girl next door or a sex worker/prostitute.

Classic tsundere. I'm not too fond of the modern tsundere (though some of them are alright), but I like the classic tsundere.

Deredere.

Catgirls. I like catgirls.

The pervy old lecher who, when he's not busy peeking at young girls in a bath, is actually respectable and can impart words of wisdom. He's someone to look up to.

What do I think about the HR-V?

I know this crossover is slow at times, and it's not as fuel-efficient as its older sibling (the CR-V) but it accomplishes its purpose, it takes you from point A to point B. It's a cute car but it accelerates like it's going to sob. I drove this car because one of my friends has one. It's like the car I drove in my driving lessons but converted into a crossover. And some people say that it's better to do fast driving in a slow car than do slow driving in a fast car. I hope it'll improve.
