I have no idea about this show, but the fans have hyped me so much, so I'm very excited about it. I know nothing but I've heard it's a very cute romance show. So... I'll definitely watch it. Plus, Lidenflims did such a great job on this show. Aesthetically, it looks so beautiful and pleasing. Nakami seems like a nice guy and Magari is just such a cutie. Both of them have already made an impression on me. Yuuki Hayashi on the music is such a great thing to have. This man can elevate any story with the power of his music. What a legend. The OST sounds so good.

Both of them sleeping on each other was so freaking adorable. The cat stealing the food. LOL. Both of them hanging out at night was so good as well. It just fits altogether somehow. What a cute duo both of them are. Already looks like this is gonna be my favorite from this season. Can't wait for more.

Even, that live-action looks so good. I'm so happy for the fans.

One of my most anticipated manga adaptations: mangaka Makoto Ojiro's Insomniacs After School, finally having its own anime. Thanks for the recommendation bud @NextUniverse!

The insomnia-laden Ganta Nakami (with his good friend Tao Ukegawa) having to go to the school's abandoned Astronomy Club to get an item, and the observatory looks haunted thanks to a rumor about lost love that took the lives of a club. But him not wanting to be bothered, other than being bothered by his weirdness, goes to the observatory (that's now a warehouse) to get some boxes, and the secret base is good enough for him to just rest. But there too, rests Isaki Magari, and certainly she's shocked about him being also there, locked because the door can be opened from the outside. Nevertheless, Nakami finding a kindred spirit within Magari, being the one who spread the ghost rumor to get her own private resting place, and thus it's the same for Nakami. Thanks to Ukegawa, both Nakami and Magari managed to find their way outside, and her giving the passcode to Nakami, it's the beginning of their friendship.

The cats being school nurse Usako Kurashiki's pet peeve stealing food while she inspects Nakami's insomniac "illness", that's her 6-second period of anger lols. Both Nakami and Magari clearing up the observatory deck to rest and chat about their sleeplessness, it's their Call Of The Night to form the Nightly Fun Society to wander around the town in the dead of the night. Nakami's photography being just a tool, and Magari's frail body while energized by sports...I'm pretty sure manga readers will know what's up with her. The first hint of romance for Magari being safe on Nakami's back after hiding from a policeman on duty, and though bad, sleeplessness has an upside to capture night scenes like nobody's business.

The day comes, and both feels that they've made a special relationship, where night is their best friend.

aiko's OP is just simply beautiful all the way through.

Alright, this is living up to my expectations of the manga adaptation. This will easily be a great standout romance show.

Nah insomnia is actually something pretty common nowadays, though to think they made somewhat of a show featuring two fifteen year olds experiencing the extremity of it and looking for ways… unusual ways to muddle through this very thing is a, “101 ways of how to deal with stress” kind of a guide in disguise.

Spreading such strange rumours about the astronomy club room, just to make sure no one should visit your secret idle zone is a super smart thing to do lol, though that’s the place where this friendship started, between Nakami and Isaki, the insomniac duo, so it has its relevance. By the way, strolling around the city late at night is not gonna help the lack of sleeplessness in any way..  so you two should better avoid that lol.

I read a few chapters some time ago, and it was good for that while. First episode didn’t disappoint in execution in any way.

So ... a bunch of teenage kids with insomnia problems, who also thinks they're the center of the universe, OK ... But hey, at least by the rules of the anime world, the main guy found the same weirdo that matches his soul.

Thats good right.

I'm caught up with the manga as soon the adaptation was announced. As for the anime, it's a hit or miss direction and I have a few complaints with some of the frame but I do feel like some panels in the manga are hard to be animated even though the 1st half (like the end quarter) and 2nd half of the episode had a much better direction. Otherwise, everything is solid. I like the VA choices, Nakami and Magari makes such a cute dynamic with one another and they're gonna develop and venture to even more places as the story progresses.

I've been following the manga for quite some time and while I'm not a big fan of it, I kinda liked it enough, so I still quite looking forward to this one. So far, though, this adaptation seems pretty underwhelming to me at the moment. While the general designs are alright and all, the color gradients and lightings felt lackluster at times. There's one point where a room was supposed to look bright, but turns out darker, instead....that was odd, though I'd hope it's something that could be correct for the blu rays. The overall aesthetics aren't so bad, but they're not very vibrant, and seem to neither capture the ambience of nighttime like the Call of the Night anime did, nor emulate the rustic appeal I thought the manga source material had. The dialogue also feels rather flat and not as snappy as I expected it to be, though perhaps I'm interpreting the mood of the conversations the wrong way. The music by the legend Hayashi is really good, though. Helps to know that he can raise the bars of anything with his works.

The OP and ED theme I found quite average at best. They're nothing too special or memorable, but not necessarily bad, either.

I do like this little dynamic quickly developing between Nakami and Magari, though. I'm not exactly that caring for any of the other characters, except maybe the cat that keeps stealing their food LMAO. To put it shortly, this is a narrative about two people who both have the same issue and same situation, having insomnia, and their hideout is an abandoned astronomy observatory. Already early on there's hints of romance between the two, though the intended drive is for them helping each other out with their insomniac issues as well as dealing with the mundane events of everyday life around them. There's gonna be constant notion of development for sure, though because there's no particularly interesting quirk or dynamic, it'll depend on whether or not you can get attached to the characters. I'm personally indifferent at the moment overall.

This adaptation is very hit-or-miss at the moment due to the director being pretty much a newbie, and as of right now, I personally don't find this series to be anywhere near an AOTS candidate, much less AOTY, but it's a decent seasonal, at least, though if you're too dulled by most romcoms in general, I can't say this is for you.

Nothing bad, but also nothing special.
Unfortunately it's just average, I suspect this is just a tie-in with the live action movie.
Yes, this is what we usually get, but this manga is one of those they could made something special, right? Instead it's like they're just selling just one more boy meets girl romance and will rush to end with a confession. You can say that this is that type of story and I wouldn't say you're completely wrong, but this one here is just a bit more than that.

A good premiere, and I've heard great things from fans of the manga, so I'm excited to watch this show as an anime-only to see what it's all about. Insomnia is quite a common thing it seems, and the first episode focused on Nakami and Magari meeting each other at school in the school observatory, which was plagued by scary rumours. I liked how their dynamic was introduced, with them relating to each other over their insomnia, or as the kids call it, "She's just like me fr fr!"

With steepnesses plaguing the two, it's only natural that the night calls them to form the "Nightly Fun Society", to explore the night. It reminded me a little bit of Call of the Night, which aired last year, but without the supernatural elements. As for the visuals, I will say I expected more, but as this show is directed by someone making their directorial debut, it's still decent work nonetheless. I'm definitely looking forward to more.

Okay, I think I'm already falling in love with this anime! This episode struck a good balance between slice of life and story progression! I like the characters so far and I am left eager to see what will happen next!

Nakami is very much not your default male anime character, and I like that. He's neither a perv nor hopelessly afraid of talking to girls, both types of characters that have been overdone too much and really don't fit in a slice of life.

Magari is just a nice girl, with similar issues to the protagonist and they seem to bond well over it. She's cute too!

The visuals are just great, although I've found the use of light a bit over the top.
The music is also really good, adds a lot to the scenes where it matters.

A few weird things in this episode I found were how they were so afraid of getting caught out at night. Is that a Japanese thing I just don't understand? I can't imagine why you would not be allowed to just roam the streets together at night. Especially hiding from police would just make you more suspicious, I'd say.

Overall, I'm digging the vibe of this show! I'm definitely looking forward to more!

Comfy and beautiful episode.

Have you wondered about having an observation in a high school? Yes! they have it for real. The school from this series is modeled after Nanao High School in Nanao, Ishikawa Prefecture. Which this school has an actual observatory.

Damn the episode started out so sad. Having Insomnia is actually really bad, not being able to sleep is just horrible. I know because I also feel tired in the mornings. The ghost story was rather interesting. Ganta was peacefully sleeping in the carton box when 2 other students asked him to grab some more boxes. Ganta then meets his friend Tao and tells him his struggles. Ganta finds his way towards the observatory where he finds a place to nap for a little bit until he sees a girl laying in the box or some kind, wholesome scene tho. Isaki got freaked out when she saw Ganta and she tells him about her Insomnia problem. When Isaki wants to leave she comes to the conclusion that they're both locked inside and that the door only opens from the outside. The 2 then peacefully fall asleep and wake up when Tao is behind the door and letting them out.

Ganta & Isaki clean up the room a little bit so that there's more space and Isaki asks Ganta to come in the evening. The 2 are now wandering the streets in the evening and its pretty chill to see that, which is nice. The 2 then sit and watch the sunrise and then they yawn and laugh it out and Ganta escorts Isaki back to her place after Isaki giving Ganta her contact info.

This anime is giving me a chill feeling so far and I'm interested to see where this will lead to. OP & ED are nice as well.

Animation was pretty solid throughout the episode, OST was incredible as expected from my goat Hayashi, and overall I thought the vibes were there. I thought they captured the feel of the night time in a very nice in realistic way. Op (I think it’s the op) was kinda mid, I’m still annoyed they didn’t use Macoroni Empitsu for the op despite them making a perfect song for the manga pv but whatcha gonna do. Overall great start

Yeah, OK, it was sweet alright. And they are just so cute together, it's almost making me tear up again.

BUT! Judging from this episode at least, the manga is definitely better. The drawings are more detailed and overall just nicer to look at. Nicer backgrounds, the cat basically looks like a photo in the manga, and those incredible stills (and there are no weird stutters and wonky movements, but OK). I mean, really, go read it, it's just soo so so beautiful! And one last complaint: The amine felt a bit more kitschy tropey anime-y in a bad way (if that makes any sense). Like, the hug at the ghost story's climax being a tiny bit more cliche (two über girly girls instead of only one), or her screaming when he woke her up as if this was a guy-walks-in-on-girl-in-shower ecchi scene, or the way she walks with her finger tips just slightly more spread out like a fucking penguin (because girls in animes) ... lots of really small details that the manga handled just ever so slightly better.

Then there were a few changes that didn't make anything worse (I think), but not better either. So, they felt kind of pointless, but OK, no big deal, I guess.

Don't get me wrong, all in all it was still nice, and I mean reeeaaaally nice. But, yea, just read the fucking manga :D

Couldn't say it better myself. For now it doesn't undermine the writing or the atmosphere much, but the biggest fear is the quality downgrading.

God I wish Cloverworks or an team of competent staff is behind this.
