Just got my copy of the Blu Ray a few hours ago, got to say this was an excellent movie and I am very glad to have been part of the kickstarter for it. The atmosphere was as somber as the original but this time there were a decent amount of upbeat moments as well, the visuals were also exceptionally gorgeous.

Pretty much an anime original movie to have us fans see them animated with fantastic visuals. Seems good to me. Was it perfect? No, but anyone expecting an actual adaptation had to of been crazy.

I really hope that they decide to adapt the whole manga, because was fun to watch with these visuals.

In that world I would become a Outsider easily, if one those quadrupeds Outsiders appeared before me, I really outright want to pet them.

This movie's art and animation is simply beautiful much better and polished version comparing to 2019 short OVA.

I would also love to see a full version of this anime. Overall it's a 9/10 for me.

the good thing is i already finished the manga so i know what’s happening. too bad for anime watchers the phasing is such a mess since it’s just an ova. i just wish that someone will make it a full tv anime soon!! the animation is superb as always from wit studio!! and the voice of shiva is exactly as i imagine!💙

There are definitely a few flaws with this OVA from a storytelling perspective (even as an anime-only, I can tell that this is the by-product of trying to adapt the whole manga), but in all honesty I found it all compelling anyway: even with the gaps in explanation towards the end, Shiva and Sensei's relationship was strong and I was entirely on board with it.

And even if I wasn't, this is quite possibly the most gorgeous anime I have ever watched. Truly astonishing visuals and artwork throughout, making me so glad that Wit are no longer held back from projects like this by Attack on Titan.

I mean, just look at that! Words can't do justice to visuals like that.

I don't get it... This OVA was perfectly fine until the two laid down in the grass together. From that moment onwards, nothing that followed made any sense anymore to me.

Hence I have a few questions, maybe some manga readers have the answer: What exactly is the curse?

From what I could gather it seems to be something else than what happened to the soldier (turning into a tree I mean).
Afterall Sensei says he can't spread the curse and yet he doesn't want to touch Shiva. Besides that, apparently Shiva is already cursed...
So I assume that means, Sensei cannot spread whatever the curse is, but if he were to touch Shiva then she would turn into a tree.

However, the old man was afraid of spreading the curse after interacting with Sensei. To which Sensei explains that he did not even touch the old man.
I assume this is supposed to mean that even if Sensei were able to spread the curse, the old man wouldn't have gotten it from their interaction, because Sensei did not touch the old man.
I don't believe this is supposed to indicate that Sensei could have spread the curse if he did actually touch the old man (after all Sensei kept claiming that he can't spread it).

Then again, maybe I am wrong and turning people into trees IS the curse. Then my only question is, why did Sensei keep saying he cannot spread it???

Beautiful! I have been planning to read the manga, but I got lazy.

Unfortunately, I think they skipped many chapters or even changed some stuff. In general, 8/10, but it has the potential to be 9/10 or even 10/10. I hope we will get a full adaptation

I think he meant that he does not curse people on purpose unlike the other Outsiders, but he can still curse people, this is why he did not want to touch Shiva nor the old man. The old man probably does not know that the Outsider should touch his skin in order to get cursed ... technically he killed himself without getting cursed.

Regarding Shiva, I am not sure about her curse, but I feel that Sensei misunderstood her. I feel that she meant her family got cursed (and killed by soldiers) and that it is too late to go back to them.

I just checked the manga briefly and it seems that many chapters were skipped and that there is more into the story so I would say we should just read the manga

Ohhhhhh that would actually make a lot of sense if he just meant that he does not curse others willingly :O This explains so much, I'm glad that I asked. Thank you!

Wow this is an amazing piece of art, really leaves alot of questions and mysteries doe especially for Shiva. Imagine if this had a 12 part episodes. This series is not for everyone but for those who enjoy it, it really gives you a peaceful melancholic feeling.

I was really looking forward to this so I can't help but feel a little disappointed. Art direction, animation and sound design were all breathtaking but seems the actual substance was left out entirely. I wish they'd picked a different slice to adapt, or at least included some elements of the full story, no matter how subtle.

Writing-wise a very unflattering adaptation, purely fanservice for those who have already read it.

Glad this OVA explains a lot of things compare to the other OVA. I'm still confused for some parts, but it's sad knowing the background of inside and outside people, especially how the curse is heavily mentioned as the main source of problem. I enjoyed this OVA, I hope it was longer, or if possible another OVA.

Just awful.
The story starts from nothing and takes you nowhere, in addition to not concluding anything, not explaining anything, not telling anything. It even looks like Tenshi no Tamago, which is just as bad.

This is really disappointing to someone who never read the manga. It does not explain anything. It makes you feel as though you're not allowed to watch this unless you already read the manga.

What is the Curse?
My only guess after watching is: Some type of darkness that rots the soul until they die and return to mother/earth as a tree?

Who is Sensei, or where/when is he from?
My only guess after watching is: ??? Hello? I felt that him being a human cursed and then decided he wasn't going to curse anyone else was possible, but by the end this is never expanded on.

What in the absolute fuck was the purpose of Sensei visiting Mother?
My only guess after watching is: This has to be the most wasted moment for me, its clear that something important is taking place, and Sensei comes to understand his situation, yet the viewer is never let in on the message. Why?

There was so much buildup in this OVA, then nothing happens. Nani the fuck. I feel robbed. I feel so robbed that I'm going to go read the goddamn manga so that I can understand the most basic plot information about this OVA.

I can already feel it, I'm going to go read the manga, its going to be extremely good, and make me consider this OVA an even bigger disappointment. Or maybe I'm wrong and it will be a bunch of "Well how did it make you feel? That's the real story!" self-reflect / self-help bullshit.

Assholes, whoever made this.

Why is all the story being intentionally obfuscated?

Story: fuck you/10 (There is an amazing story, you're just not allowed to understand it without reading the manga)
Animation: 10/10 (Absolutely beautiful artwork and animation, the sound, everything.)

Yes I'm malding.

Beautiful watercolor & thick linework.
Unsure if 3 episodes or 1 film which is intended. First 2 episodes bit slow paced. Ep3 music & ED were amazing.
Feels like an atmospheric melancholic sol with vague mysteries. For anime-only, the curses could do with more context.

So I watched this OVA after I finished the manga. Of course I didn't expect for it to cover the entire manga, but I was surprised by how much they changed the storytelling. The plot is still the same, however reading the manga is a much better experience since, not only you'll appreciate Nagabe's art style more, but also the plot, storytelling, characters, twists, and revelations that is not included in the anime. I definitely recommend reading the manga before watching the anime.

The anime, however, is still a very gorgeous film. I love the art (WIT doesn't disappoint when it comes to Historical Fantasy I fear) and its nice to see Shiva and the teacher get animated. I still enjoyed watching it.

ps. did yall see the short scene where they showed shiva's vessel? i think its a nice foreshadowing

considering that this is an OVA, its good. Definitely confused me though, i honestly think that just having the 2019 ova was fine though but i’m not complaining, this is really magnificent!! FOR A KICKSTARTER??!! As a manga reader and not knowing it was an OVA at first, it confused me alot. “thats all” but i went back here and checked, clearly stated OVA. I SWEAR i was about to hate wit studio. i heard there will be another trailer around november?? OH MY genuinely kinda alot of materials already.

Loved the artstyle and visuals. The story was a bit hard to follow but I felt it was this:

Shiva being 'cursed' to be forever alone if she goes to/stays in inside world so she wants to stay in the outside world so she won't ever be alone. Her family was actually cursed and turned into trees

Sensei his 'curse' is not being able to touch and love others if he cares for them. So he cares and can't touch them cause then he loses them. Seems like he lost a lover and then lost himself?

There seems to be a backstory as for why but this is how I filled in the story without knowing that as anime only watcher, not having read the Manga. Maybe it involves murders? Maybe..potentially too.
A loss of family and wanting a family again is what seems to tie them together in one world. I couldn't place mother tree entirely but maybe it's once you've served your purpose you return to earth, if there's something left for you to get back to, she let's you go? Atone for sins perhaps? Couldn't quite grasp it.

8/10 for me
Yes it's not entirely complete story wise but for an ova? It's pretty good. Feels like an open ending book where you fill in the blanks yourself

Sensei best husbando. Doctor, kind, looks gorgeous and makes you pancakes, who needs humans anyway?

This isn't a cozy world, yet you feel sooo comfy while watching, and NOT in a nothing-happens-and-I'm-hella-sleepy SoL way. Honestly, I haven't been so relaxed in a long time. These ovas work as good as Xanax + kittens. Surely this one seems to have skipped some parts story-wise, but for me that did not undermine the enjoyment. Possibly the short was even more outstanding without any dialogue, while this was more emotional. Both are arguably the most beautiful little thing that graced our screens in ages. Finally, crowfunding put to good use.
