I was looking forward to this film and it didn't disappoint. Loved the animation and the contrast between the simple designs and the rotoscoping. Plenty of great rock references (King crimson, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Mike Oldfield and Pink Floyd are the ones that I noticed, there are probably more and if so can someone please point them out) The music was surprisingly good and I really dug the dry laid back atmosphere. Definitely not a film for everyone but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Goosebumps when Kenji threw his recorder and started singing. The story was pretty simple and I loved the contrast between the two bands and their realizations. Only noticed the Court of King Crimson album, it's nice to know there's a lot more I missed.

I fucking love the dresscodes! The ED is no exception

I wanted to give this one a chance despite the character designs, but Ongaku was too random, too unfunny and too dry. I really hate when someone brings up a concept that really interests me (delinquents that want to be musicians, I mean, that looks like my type of anime) and make a mess out of it. And this was the anime movie some people considered for the Oscars to compete with Soul?

Im gonna give it credit for the sound, though. And some of the songs were good.

Here, music is a primal, spontaneous, in-the-moment, emotional creation. So different from this film's own production which seems to have involved one passionate director and seven years of animating. I loved it.

The "dry" style of comedy was pretty hilarious, made me laugh a number of times. Morita is an awesome character passionate for music, his sequences were incredible. I also loved the "shaking camera" effect, it's such a live-action thing x)

The story isn't the best, the movie itself is pretty average, but it was actually worth seeing.
There is hardly anything to complain about the production, the film is almost all sakuga. The music performance scenes are insanely animated, I even like to see them. This film is a good example of how to use rotoscopy.

Well, I didn't like it that much. Gaps between the conversations literally killed it for me and the concept was not that appealing for my taste me either. It felt too dull but it would be inappropriate to expect a well produced studio animation. 4/10

Just goes to show that comedy, same as music, is subjective. I personally love this style of dry absurdist humour. It kinda reminded me of the films of Kaurismäki, Jarmusch and Wes Anderson.

this movie left me in awe...the animation, pacing, the music!! ahh it was so refreshing to see a delinquent/music anime be depicted in this way. Like nothing happened but I got so much joy from watching this.

Best looking shitpost I have ever seen.

Now seriously, this sure was an interesting watch. The absurdity of the jokes took a bit to land but I ended up liking it and the way they used different styles of Rotoscoping was a feast to the eyes, personally speaking.
Also Morita best character.

7/10 - Kenji and Aya gave me so many Saitama-Tatsumaki vibes, by the way. Am I the only one who felt this?

This was fucking raw holy shit. Not a huge fan of the large pauses, but damn the music performance scenes were majestic like my unicorn farts that I spew out of my mouth during Primogenesis. Good shit.

Loved it. Was just going to give it a 7/10 l decided bump it up to a 8/10.

Also like some said Saitama and Tatsumaki vibes definitely. Kenji is literally Saitama face with a couple extra lines on it.
