I definitely feel like Mizuki and Hana's bond has strengthened in these recent episodes. Then, there's the whole complicated side of Mizuki's family, her brother's wedding, etc.

Just happens this occurs on the day of their tournament so it got even more complicated. Feels like this show really made it tense in this episode that goes beyond just performances.

With the NHK Cup approaching, Mizuki being given a wedding invitation from her older brother (which she is quite distant from her family), that can be put aside to focus on the tournament at hand. But Hana, knowing full well of how expressive Mizuki is, the latter inviting her for a sleepover to describe her family affair, the Senpai herself sure doesn't look the part of belonging to a prestigious family, a rather strict authoritarian one at that whom her grandmother Mayumi ruled her family with an iron fist. With subsequent delinquency however, even her parents gave up on her, and here she is, contemplating on whether to attend the wedding just to save face.

While clearly a turning point for Mizuki, hearing Kichijoji-sensei mention that she'll miss the tournament for 2 weeks, and even going silent without question, Akiyama knowing a similar case just like it to warrant saving Mizuki out of her dilemma, it's a go because they'll fail without her. Indeed, with Mizuki being confined by her controlling grandmother, for the Broadcast Club to investigate her family's background and find the connections to reach her, they're really giving it their all.

Mizuki's rescue mission being just as important as the incoming tournament itself, it's only up to them to convince the Raiten Group and free her. The spirit of friends against the control of the family.

Ahhhh the one day delay was definitely worth it. One of the most interesting episodes thus far and sets the stage for a really high stakes finale next week. Mizuki has always been the calm, cool and collected person who cheers up and encourages everyone else. Now it's her turn to get saved!

Never would have thought she was the heir to such a prominent and wealthy family. Just from the little interaction we saw this week with her grandmother, it's no surprise she hated her family and wanted out. The grandmother might have saved the company, but that does not give you the right to treat the rest of the family like shit, especially not your little granddaughter who just wants to show you a drawing!! I feel like the brother is gonna end up being sympathetic and actually hear the broadcasting club out next week... hopefully anyway. You'd think Mizuki would have had an emergency exit ready in case her family tried trapping her in the house tho lol

Wait, who was Hakoyama talking about with the love triangle? Who else has a crush on Hana?? Our girl is getitng popular.

THE YURI VIBES. That flashback with Azumi and Mizuki was so good. I love long hair delinquent Mizuki sm. But it's interesting how that's such a close parallel to her first meeting with Hana and how she invited her to join broadcasting club too. Even down to the "I like your voice". Really sad to see this one end next week :/ don't know if we'll get multiple seasons like Hibike.

A family that's really hard to deal with, Mizuki has it tough. Specially her grandmother, favoring only his grandson and ignoring her granddaughter. But Mizuki has friends, who're there to help her when she needs help.

Few moments felt as if I'm watching girls love to be honest. And what Hakoyama suggested about, about a love tringle. Would be fun if that's true.

Mizuki's family situation is a rather frustrating one at that. It might be nice to be related to other members of the family that have managed great business success, but the way she was treated was rather horrible. Her grandmother doesn't live up to her "grandmother" status with how she treated Mizuki like she was utter trash in the past and even in the present, Mizuki is now confined in a luxurious prison against her own will. Her own parents also deserve criticism for not daring to challenge the grandmother's decisions like this. =(

At least Hana and the other members of the broadcasting club didn't take long to get a good idea as to what has happened to Mizuki and her doing their best to operate a plan to help her via the Raiten HQ, where Mizuki's older brother works. Hopefully this will be enough to help Mizuki out if her own brother stands up for her.

Only the final episode will show us if this plan will work or not. Fingers crossed that it does work!

Does no one think to call the cops? Even if it can eventually be passed off as a minor in family business, cops investigating a kidnapping and illegal imprisonment claim against the family would do enough to help

The strongest point of this anime is that it's a story about normal people. But this episode make this anime lose its strongest point. There's nothing normal about being a billionaire's granddaughter at all, and on top of that it's a mad billionaire, mad enough to lock someone up. It's a source material fault in which the anime producer can do nothing about it.

This anime has completely gotten away from what was special about the show, the reading of poetry and the animations that decorated them.

I don't understand why they couldn't just focus on that instead of making side stories.

And this whole side story of the blonde being a rich family's daughter and being locked in a room, is just taking away from the main story and two episodes.

It doesn't even look like they will get to the competition readings now in episode 12, how disappointing.
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

@phantomfandom

"a story about normal people", I actually thought the opposite, because you kind of have to be a little different than "normal people", to be in the broadcasting club.

In this episode, the tall deep voiced guy says something like, "Who really enjoys speaking in front of a crowd?", which also agrees that these people are not "normal people".

And I think the strongest point of the anime was the citation and animation that accompanied it, that is what made the anime special.

Although they have really gotten away from that with these last episodes.

With only one episode left, I’m kinda confused about throwing in a Mizuki conflict, ofc it’s the usual family drama and selfishness thing. Not saying that’s bad or anything, but the timing feels weird, especially with the season almost over.

If this was a two-cour thing, I probably wouldn’t care as much, but yeah.

It was interesting to get background info on Mizuki but I'm surprised that they're doing it late in the season as I initially thought this would end with the gang in the preliminaries. Having said that I enjoyed this episode more than some of others that felt kind of slow. Hopefully the gang will be able to convince Mizuki's brother to have his sister released and let her make the choice if she wants to attend his wedding or go to the preliminaries.

It feels like the show has very suddenly and abruptly changed genres, I'm not really complaining though, the plotline established seems interesting and I'm curious how they're going to resolve it but I do worry that with so little time left in the show, it's going to have rushed pacing and fall flat. I was worried at first that it was going to end up being a generic "bro-con" storyline with Mizuki but it seems like that won't be the case which I'm glad for.

Wow, did not expect a kidnapping plot to hit THIS anime on the penultimate episode of the season (did this sort-of thing happen in Sound Euphonium?). I feel like this is the first episode without a poem or story being recited in it.

I feel like we are guaranteed a second season or a part 2 of season 1 given the plot.

I didn't expect Mizuki to come from a rich family. Also, all her styles are awesome: her natural childhood look was adorable, her wavy pink hair in high school was cool and very cute, and her current style is just as cool.

But wow, her family-especially her grandmother-is awful. Mizuki has put up with a lot from them, and now, when she really needs their support, they literally lock her up just because she wants to skip her brother's wedding to go to the preliminaries? That's just crazy.

Luckily, Hana and the club come to help, and it seems like her older brother isn't as terrible as the rest of the family. Let's hope he's supportive.

Why every girl I start to like in anime drops a bombshell that they are the heiress to some billion dollars company haha. No seriously rich people are really written differently in anime, they are not at all based on real life rich people.
Besides the rich don't go to the same schools as commoners, they go to special schools.
This only happens in anime, manga and comics.
But isn't that the charm of fiction ? The heiresses, secret billionaires, blend into the lives of everyday folks, and this is only place where Peter Parker-level commoners and Harry Osborn-level elites casually share a classroom.
It's like rich characters in anime have their own gravitational pull, destined to cross paths with the ordinary protagonists for more drama, forbidden romance, or, let’s be honest, mostly for comedy and chaos.

In reality there’s a more distinct social divide, and elite schools are where the ultra-wealthy congregate.
But in anime, the heiresses like Sonoko or Mizuki Senpai become these wild cards to the story It’s doesn't reflect real-life rich people—it’s about making them humble and fun, over-the-top antics and and comedy impossible to resist. Plus, who doesn’t love the trope where the heir to a fortune goes "Oh, this? It's just my third helicopter!"

I'm not a fan of this save Mizuki mini-arc just because I prefer to see them be on the tournament with Hana reciting something before the season ends and we agonise if we'll ever see a season 2.

But if it helps in some character development, why not.

We get two parallel scenes: 1) Hana went to Mizuko's house earlier, and 2) Both Mizuki and Hana were invited by their respective sempai to join the school's broadcasting club.

My Happy Marriage: "We can make the biggest bitch matriarch of the season!"

Flower and Asura: "Bet."

Unless season 2 is in the bag, I don't know why thay wasted so much airtime on a sidequest, when we all know through the Power of Friendship, the gang's going to convince Mizuki's bro to try to get her out of her cage. The story's emphasis should've been on the tournament.

Now with 1 episode to go there won't be NHK prelims this season now. I am not opposed to Mizuki backstory but to end the season this way not the best imo.
Oh I love rich bitch (grand)parents who likes to control their children it so good this show did it twice. That old lady need to be put behind bars for attempting such stunts in 2020s.

But about spicy things Yuri thrived this episode. Not just with Hana & Mizuki but with Azumi girl from her past. When she gonna show up. About the love triangle who Hakoyama mentioned, probably An. But could be himself which I personally prefer. Damn Hana building her reverse harem with her cuteness.

Honestly Mizuki is such a lesbian, love that for her

I think that the other corner in the love triangle, could be Hakoyama, since he was the one writing that down, but then he was like "nah, no way Matsuyuki has actual feelings for Hana and is so chill about it". Especially since Touga didn't have significant interaction with Hana in a longer while. Tho I'm preety sure Touga will end up with Hana, Matsuyuki with An and Hakoyama with Ryouko. If there even will be end game couple and I still have my finger crossed for Mizuhana

Honestly I thought that Flower and Asura will wrap up in one season, but with this big story twist I guess we can expect second season? Because no way they will safe Mizuki and make it to the preliminaries in the same episode

I see that some people are really against this plot with Mizuki kiddnaping and it's hard to not agree with them. Tho I really hope this plot point will turned out to be something good and we will get second season with more recitation composed with beautiful animation
