Cried when Rei started crying during the first part. The brief hints from the past episodes were not explained in the backstory. Rei went through so much.

I started reading the manga a couple days ago and felt like it lacked an emotional depth and pace to it, which made me start rewatching the anime along with it. And yeah, with chapters taking half an episode mixed in with impactful and superb directing for the most part in visualizing Rei's past and struggles he went through when it came to his history with shogi, the loss of his real family and the hell he caused by being a part of a new one and how he tore apart a seemingly happy family because of another kid's constant presence in it. The anime can feel a bit stretched out with some of the slice of life chapters, especially whenever those fucking annoying talking animals and meh comedy take place, but in segments like these, the anime's a masterclass in expressing its content compared to the manga which has a lacking artstyle, no production to benefit with and a much faster pace that doesn't have me as hooked to the drama as the anime did. Talk about elevating the source material big time.

Completely disagree with you on this. Umino-sensei's manga is much more impactful than what you are making it out to be and I would even daresay that Shaft does a minimal job elevating it than what it does with some of the other IPs such as Monogatari, which are more known for their style than other stuff.

The writing is what heavily carries this show, not the Shaft... bullshittery. Although, Shaft actually does a very decent job with it and I would not have any other studio dare touch it.

There are some SHAFT gimmicks that I don't love about March Comes in Like a Lion's anime but it just feels more impactful to me than when reading the first 3 volumes of the manga. It's more toned down compared to the anime which has its own natural charm but the character drama there didn't stick much to me in that form compared to the anime for me. With the help of voice acting, some really interesting imagery used and looks way better than the manga's art style for me, the anime's just a better experience for me, at least compared to only the first 3 volumes I read of the manga. Not saying that SHAFT did a perfect job with this in every way possible. The writing in the manga itself is fairly good but as an experience, I feel nothing at all for it so far compared to the anime. Just an opinion, my mind could change once I read the manga more. Umino's artstyle in Honey and Clover's manga didn't do much for me either, although I hate that series in general in whatever medium.

Reply me if like they show any development in there relationship in latest chapter I don't mind you spoiling me at all. All I need is an answer. Also I simp for kyoko and doesn't want to see her gotou. Does she leaves him later in the anime/manga

Easily best episode so far. The narration of Rei's backstory was done so well. Imagine losing one family and then nearly destroying another through no fault of your own. He was even abused at times by the elder sister if she was the one in the flashback. In my opinion, the father was the one most at fault here for neglect towards his own children who loved him.

Wow, that family sucks. Instead of blaming their weakness and incompetence, they use Rei as a scapegoat. Instead of being like Nikaidou, never giving up, or using Rei as a rival, they hurt him.
Graduated High School in May of 2022. Summer vacation has finally arrived. I have once again regained the power of a new anime fan, being able to watch multiple anime episodes in a day. Time to binge-watch every single anime I can into the night until college arrives. SADGE. SUPER SADGE... College has begun as of Monday, August 30, 2022, so you won't be seeing me much around these parks. See you on weekends, I guess... School me is back. Sigh! I'll at least try for one anime a day with all this course load.

damn this episode made me in tears. dunno what was harsher for rei, their parents to dead, or realize he's family killer. (remembering the news flash in episode 1). truly the best episode so far.

though i would love more closure on rei and his sister, that made the highlight for me with momo part.

Ray`s aunt is so depraved ... She was talking about this hospital at her brother`s funeral. There is not even a hint of sadness on her face. Rei's foster father is very nice. like his own son. I'm glad he didn't go to his orphanage or with his aunt (it was worse).
I want to hug Rei and tell him it's not Rei's fault. His foster family had children with a screw loose. You are a child You are not her therapist. You are not a cuckoo. Your real family died in a car accident! You are the survivor and victim of this situation! Someone has to tell him that!

Rei's background story is very sad.. I get those kids hate him for stealing their dad's attention, but they went too far. Especially the daughter

Finally an episode where something happens. I think the show being so "cozy" is what bothered me with the first four episodes. There's shades of drama in the first bit but it almost studiously avoids being too uncomfortable even if characters get sad about it. This episode finally had some tangible nastiness in it.

Good episode, I think this is finally the "hook" that'll make me lock in this series. The backstory was condensed nicely, Rei went through some shit even after his parents death for sure. I almost wept when Rei treated Momo's wounds and it transitioned to the backstory, that was top tier stuff. I kinda get why the kids hated Rei for stealing attention but Kyouko didnt have to do allat physical abuse lmfao

man.

I like how the story is finally heading towards something, I appreciated all the coziness but it just wasn't anything special. Now I am getting curious to see the next episode so that's definitely a good sign, also Momo is soo cute!! <3
