if i were a ozu film i'd be "i'm a straight woman, but..."

i'm a straight woman who loves yuri but i think it should be taken into consideration that i've had my share of girl action, to the point i thought i was a lesbian for around 4 years. teens are complicated. so i'm straight, yes, but i also have a more relatable/intimate relationship with yuri because it's something i....recognize

but it doesn't take away from the fact that a LOT of straight girls are into yuri (i know more than a couple especially considering i often recommend it to my straight friends) and i think the fact that it's easier to find straight girls who are into (or at least are not thrown off by) shoujo ai/yuri than straight boys who are into shounen ai/yaoi is simply because homosexuality has a very different weight on girls and boys, especially during puberty. girls have a much easier time appreciating other women's beauty, for instance, without it being seen as strictly a homosexual feeling. girls also get to be a lot more intimate (physically and emotionally) among themselves than guys because that's not seen necessarily as a homosexual act. on top of that, there's an overwhelming lesbian fetish that permeates society and as lesbophobic and vile as it is, it does end up having a rebound effect that if you're femme enough you get a free pass, socially speaking, to explore your sexuality a little more with other girls. at least that's how it works in the social environment i've always lived in

tldr: girls like girls who like girls who like girls

Yes, many girls and women are into yuri.

Is there any anime that is both a shoujo and a yuri ?

i think asagao to kase-san fits that description. it's the only one i can think of and it kills me bc that's like what i always look for in yuri :~

Interesting. Yeah I figured something like that would be rare.

honestly in a dream world all yuri would be like that. the idea that yaoi needs to cater to women and yuri needs to cater to men (citrus, lookin @ u) seems insane to me. it should be the exception

Yes that's exactly right. There are no moral reasons behind it. I'm not religious nor do I think gay people are doing anything wrong.

I just really want to look away whenever I see an act of physical intimacy between homosexual people... well... outside of hand holding anyway.

I don't know, but as I've grown older I've felt that this feeling is a definitive indicator of my own sexuality. Also, disgust is a strong word, but there's no other word I could use.... maybe aversion? I just don't like seeing it.

don't worry, this is a very common thing, many people feel like you. they even have a name for it: homophobia

I'm not afraid of gay people, nor do I hate them or don't want them to have rights.

It's the same kind of disgust I would feel seeing to extremely obese straight people with cheeto encrusted faces making out on the subway. I would want to look away. That disgusts me. Same thing with two girls kissing.

Yes. Like, this isn't even up for debate. The majority of Yuri readership in Japan is female, ffs. Put the title of the article/blog and the wretched personality of its author aside for a bit if that's an issue for you, and focus primarily on the stats and sources it cites - which is my main reason for linking it. I found the citations to be actually worthwhile and informative.

It's just less extreme than the demographic dominance that females have on Yaoi, and is likely being conflated with the extreme popularity of lesbian porn with males to a degree. But no, if anything females are the main market for Yuri, and from our perspective and association of how content is generally aimed at demographics, we just kind of miss out on this. Kind of like a lesser-known version of how people can sometimes end up surprised that CGDCT shows are often aimed at adult males.

I like shoujo-ai but not yuri. Same with yaoi, I don't like yaoi, I only like shounen-ai.
I have no problem seeing two girls liking each other in a romantic way. I think it's sweet.

Yes, there are, can't say I'm one of them. (I don't watch Yaoi either that... too much for me. Though I admit I can watch shonen-ai but you won't find me watching shoujo ai.)

I misread the thread title as "Are there any girls that are like Yuri?".

As in Yurippe from Angel Beats or Yuri Tsukikage from Heartcatch Precure.

(next time please do not capitalize unnecessarily)
Avatar character is Gabriel from Gabriel DropOut.
